NFL 2020: Week 16!

Cleveland fans can take some solace in the fact that their loss to the Jets likely means that they will face a truly awful Steeler team in the first round of the playoffs.

I so want the Eagles to beat the Snyders of Landover next week so a 10 loss Giants team will be the 4 seed and host a decent team on Injury Field.

That would be so 2020 it would have to happen in 2021.

Dwayne Haskins has been cut. Can't say I ever recall a first-round pick being cut after week 16 in their second year before. That's impressive.

Ron Rivera doesn't put up with nonsense.

But we don't get anymore jokes about him being 'stripped' of his captaincy.

Lawrence Phillips.

Also Dimitrius Underwood didn't even make it past his first preseason.

But those involved severe mental illness and substance abuse.

Haskins just seems to be Haynesworth-ing his way out of the league.

Close first quarter. Now Bills flexing. Run it up, boys.

Good for Rivera, class act. Tough pill to swallow for the WFT fans but if they want to win, Snyder keeps away and doesn't meddle his pathetic, slimy fingers in Rivera's decisions.

I'm sure that score yesterday isn't nearly enough retribution for Bills fan but it's a good start.

Haskins cleared waivers, which was obvious as nobody was going to claim a contract that had $4m of guaranteed money on it.

Reportedly some teams have expressed interest, so we'll see who is willing to practice squad him.

Yeah no. I don't see him getting another NFL shot without at least some time in Canadian purgatory

IN A DRAFT WITH A UNICORN QUARTERBACK PROSPECT

I feel like this gets said a lot before a draft...

Nah, the unicorns, the generational QB prospects, are the ones whose names are used for years to come as the benchmark other prospects are measured against.

It's John Elway, Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, and seemingly now Lawrence, provided nothing in the draft process does anything to diminish the grades he's reportedly drawing.

The one guy between Luck and Lawrence who potentially could also have slotted in there is Joe Burrow. But Burrow only had one year of that level of play on tape. He basically transformed into a completely different dude as a senior. If he played that way for 3 years, he probably would have achieved unicorn status.

Kyler, Baker, Goff, Jameis? None of those were unicorns. You can tell by the fact that each one was measured against Andrew Luck instead of any of each other, and that we're still referring back to Andrew Luck instead of them.

Unicorn doesn't necessarily mean best eventual pro career, just the caliber of draft grade as a prospect.

Finally someone besides the Colts gets to draft one of them.

Didn't Indy have the Elway pick and he refused to play there?

Could one argue that franchise touched:

Unitas
Elway
Peyton
Luck

And has 2 SB wins?

What franchise has had a better QB stable?

Did the XFL fold again already?

Yes. They used the draft pick on him anyway, and traded him to Denver a few days later. Still, he goes down in history as being drafted by the Colts. I was being a bit cheeky with the statement you quoted.

The Packers have a pretty solid argument for this one as well. Starr, Favre, and Rodgers is pretty damn impressive.

San Fran?

Green Bay is tough to beat in having 3 quarterbacks that reach "all time" status. Though things were pretty rough in the 2 decades between Starr and Favre, not counting a brief spark of Majik.

The other contenders are more like 2 all-time QBs with some Pro Bowl caliber guys mixed in alongside them.

49ers had a hell of a run with the Brodie - Montana - Young - Garcia sequence. If they had taken Aaron Rodgers instead of Alex Smith #1 overall, they would have run away with this category.

Cowboys with Staubach - Aikman - Romo is pretty great too, with Danny White being alright somewhere in the middle of that. Dak with 2 Pro Bowls already could build this resume further if they keep him around.

Colts might have reached the 3 all-time QB benchmark if Luck had a full career, but the Unitas - Manning - Luck group remains 2 all-timers plus a Pro Bowl caliber guy, with Bert Jones and Jim Harbaugh sneaking a Pro Bowl each into the mix.

Steelers in the 2 all-timers club with Bradshaw and Roethlisberger, but the supporting group after them is rough. Definitely no Romo or Brodie or even a Bert Jones in there. Neil O'Donnell and Kordell Stewart are the best of the rest.

So, not the Browns?

I'm not sure Jeff Garcia is making the point you think you're making there, Legion. I'd argue that Garcia was the first in the Garcia - Alex Smith - Shaun Hill line that quarterbacked a bunch of sorry 49ers teams for about a decade until Kaepernick showed up. I think your argument would be stronger if you go back in time, as the interwebs tell me that the QB before Brodie was none other than HoF badass Yelberton Abraham Tittle Jr. (who was better as a Giant than a Niner but still).

Anyway, feel free to continue over at the Week 17 thread.

Best QB Stable... Cleveland. We will just keep throwing bodies at you till you give up. We are the China of QB stables.
