The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Catch-All

Playing this again since it is on gamepass. It is amazing how good this game is, really amazing. I say that after playing Cyberpunk 2077 for the last week or so. Somehow Skyrim feels more alive and open for possibilities than CP which makes no sense.

It's a scope thing. Bethesda games have reduced scope in terms of size and people inside of it so that everyone inside of it feeds into the lite-sim, regardless of how little they matter. Cyberpunk has a LOT of things and people to look at, but they're mostly as interactive as the trash blowing through the streets in the Division.

And I still like Cyberpunk, but it's clearly unfinished.

Even today, Skyrim is a bit unique in terms of how much in the game is simulated. The Radiant AI wasn't quite as revolutionary as the pre-launch hype, but every Skyrim NPC can react when something disrupts their routine in fairly robust ways. It's why it's relatively easy to make a mod that turns anyone into a follower, for example--the main barrier is the missing voice lines and other content, not the AI. All characters in the game are more-or-less equal as far as the system is concerned.

It's a little silly the degree to which the simulation drives things--there's a few bugs that are entirely because some NPCs have to physically walk to the other side of the map, for example.

The one word of warning I would throw in with getting too used to illusion/mind magic and relying on using one thing to fight another is you can easily find yourself having problems when it comes to bosses. End of the day there are going to be situations where its just going to be you vs something with a lot of health 1 on 1; so you need to be able to either burn/slice it or kite/block and slow burn/slice it while you survive one way or another

Shirley The Skyrim Grandma Has Her Own Fully Voiced Mod

I have watched her Youtube a bit. It is nice. Glad someone made this.

Shirley is awesome.

Long live Queen Shirley.

I went to her YouTube channel, and she starts her streams with "Good morning, grandkids." That's unbelievably sweet. All of my grandparents have long since died, and it actually made me tear up a little. Parasocialism is weird.

I'm active on a subreddit called "dadforaminute", and the number of people reaching out to complete strangers for dad support is scary and heart breaking. (There is also momforaminute, sisforaminute and broforaminute as well.)

It's Winter now in the Southern hemisphere and with the cold comes the calling to fire up Skyrim.

It's always felt like a Winter game to me.

Hearing/reading other people talking about firing up Skyrim again gives me the urge to fire up Skyrim again!

I know what you mean about the winter vibe — it’s somehow a very cosy game, despite the depiction of cold weather. Maybe because you can’t feel it, like hearing rain outside is soothing when you’re not IN the rain

Same! You can be "outside" without all the trouble.

I have the itch to replay and am currently downloading Living Skyrim 3. It is on mod 386 of 917... pray for me.

You're in for a treat!

Depending on how hard you like your games, though, LS3 can be *hard* Especially starting out.

I still need to upgrade my computer before I can tackle LS3. it's on my to do list as soon as I can afford a new PC.

Apropos of nothing: I like playing Skyrim, but what I really like playing is Step and ModOrganizer.

That's nuts looking.

It is amazing how incredible Skyrim is still able to look (via tremendous mods) so many years after its release.

Eventually, though (if we haven't already hit that), the limitations of the engine in terms of character models and animations will begin to show through the upgraded graphics. Morrowind had (has) the same issue as time went on.

There are more animation mods for Skyrim, though (such as the 360 movement one), so maybe the tail is longer for it over the predecessors, but we could really, *really* do with a new one... preferably not in 2030.

Gamebryo... Gamebryo never changes.

Hey now, Todd said they've worked on animation and movement for Starfield. It's totes gonna look normal now! Promise!

Man, Still hanging out to upgrade my PC which was new when Skyrim originally came out in 2011 so I can run hundreds of Mods and ray tracing.

Any rumours of the cost of the full upgrade to the new anniversary edition? I know the basic upgrade is free but want a brand new play through with a fully upgraded world.

I don't think they've said yet.

Oof. Back up your Skyrim SE installation directory and disable Steam updates, because the upcoming update will break mods yet again.

Here's hoping the disruption will be relatively brief and the mod casualties modest.

Prices now released - https://elderscrolls.bethesda.net/en...

I own SE, £16 to do a full upgrade to AE including over £120 worth of CC content - much less than I expected.

I wonder what kind of graphics upgrades there will be on next-gen consoles.

When does this release?

11/11/21 - the day of the 10th anniversary of its release. AKA next Thursday

Hmmm... It's been a couple years since I bought a version of this game, downloaded it, made several false starts, finally made a character I'm happy with, and then quit 5 hours in because it's just not my type of game. Looking forward to doing it again!

They've been incredibly coy about that part so my guess is other than 4K60, probably not much.

AE now available for me, and downloading
