Planetfall is a great game with a just deep enough complexity for most players. If you haven't played it, well worth your time.

Into the Breach
Northgard
Civ 6

(For any Switch playing strategists, Into the Breach looks like it's half price right now)

Well the voting is over and it looks like AOW: Planetfall is the winner! The majority of folks had it in their list.

Into The Breach was a close winner which makes me think that would make a good second game. It would also be one that’s easy to play on consoles and not too much of a time commitment. Let me know what you guys think but we’ll be kicking off Planetfall next week.

I assume I'll buy and play the base game only, but maybe I should check: are any of the Planetfall expansions worth the cost of the premium edition instead?

I got the version with the passes included at the very beginning, so I'm no longer sure what is the core game and what is expansion, but from following discussions on the game, the expansions are well regarded and worth the money. They add factions and mechanics and are well done.

Yeah, for me they were worth the price of entry. But I've loved AoW for a while now, so it was just something I signed up for. Luckily it turned out well.

I only have the base game, but I glanced around at reviews of the expansions. Each one adds a new faction and large mechanic, but the first expansion, Revelations, seems to have the best price and maybe has the more interesting new mechanic. If I'm going to grab only one, it would probably just be that one.

Somewhat out of nowhere, but I was gifted Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock for Christmas. I recommend you all add it to your lists if you haven't already!

I will drop into Planetfall at some point once I've start to clear the backlog of new games and club games I'm currently trying to get through!

There's a Planetfall demo on PS4, downloaded and will give it a go to see how it plays on console before possible purchase in the Jan PSN sale.

I enjoyed my time with Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock earlier this year (it was in a Humble Monthly bundle). It's a very good tactical space battler. I do plan to go back to it and finish the season 1 content.

AOW: Planetfall was also in a Humble monthly that I picked up, so I'll be diving in right after the new year.

Ha ha ha of course I got upsold. Once I was in for one expansion, the premium edition was only a few dollars to get the rest.

Tiny text on PS4 doesn't lend itself to console play, for my aging eyes at least.

I'll have my fingers crossed for into the Breach next time.

Started Planetfall and ran the tutorial again because it's been a few months and I'm old. What a blast this is! Currently playing a "practice planet" (like a one-planet scenario you set up to your tastes, to let you work with different units and factions) to sharpen my skills before diving into the next real scenario.

Such a smooth combat experience. And the UI looks busy at first, but get used to it and it is incredibly informative, almost minimal. Very nice game.

The Steam sale is a little tricky with this now- with the base game already in hand (I got it from a Humble Bundle), the Season Pass of 3 expansions is $27, but the Premium Edition with the same expansions is $22.49.

I'm really glad you mentioned this, because I was about to drop $22 on the Deluxe Edition and I already had it from that Humble Bundle and just hadn't redeemed it!

So what’s the goal?

New page is up!

Once I get an idea of how many people are in, I'll update the ranks accordingly.

And I'm sad to report I didn't beat Endless Space 2. Just ran out of time. Maybe we'll set up an "Old Folks" home like the RPG club.

Well dang - I played it earlier this year on Game Pass but it looks like it's not on there anymore.

Looks like it was retired from Gamepass on December 15...

Love the idea for this club, and I’ll happily play just about anything that’s nominated so I don’t even need to vote.

FYI next weeks (not this weeks) Epic giveaway game is going to be Galactic Civilisations 3

What are the “must have” expansions for that? I have the base game with Mega Events, Crusade, Intrigue, and Retribution. There is quite a lot left to get, and I really hate playing a strategy game unless I have everything because to me the game isn’t “complete” until I do. You have no idea how hard it was to start a game of Planetfall without buying all the DLC for it first. I did manage it though, so I guess that’s progress.

The GalCiv3 giveway is now live, for those interested.

Thanks Sundown will definitely check it out!
