WoW: Dragonflight

Don't confuse "new" with "big gun for this expansion."

Torghast is PvE content I can meaningfully do with 2 friends rather than zero, 4, or 9+. After 2 runs I'm done for the week, but nothing stops me from going back in to help someone out. And the anima powers are genuinely fun to play with, at least on the Monk and Hunter I've played so far.

That's a pretty good niche for the feature to fill.

It is fun as my prot pally once I have a bunch of anima as I'm almost unkillable.

I love Torghast. There's a group of 4 of us that do it weekly. We can pretty easily do level 8 on each side. Turns out that groups make it SO much easier, and a hell of a lot more fun. We pick up a healer and run through each side. Doing it solo was making us all bored and hating it.

Can you group cross server, same faction?

Yeah, I have played it cross realm.
I like the idea of torghast, but actual gameplay is a bit lacking. Could be a great piece of solo and small group content if they refine it. I would be fine with it turning into a standard feature (with new themes and unique aspects) for each expansion.

Torghast is a fail for me. It is boring and not very rewarding. All you get out of it is crafting and upgrading ur Legendary. Once I craft rank 4 I am done with that place. They could have added some pets or mounts like with island expeditions to make it not feel so much like a useless grind. Solo or even grouped it just feels like an unnecessary time sink.

As far as cross realm you can group for any content except Mythic Raids as long as you are same faction. I play on Kil'Jaeden and group with people on Blackhand and Galokrand. Makes it easy to not have to start over since my toons are established well on Kil'Jaeden.

As far as I know, they have. In the last wing, whenever it opens. It might have been delayed to 8.1

Oh, good on the grouping. I didn't want to start over on Blackhand.

We are all horde, not sure if you guys are alliance. Obviously that wouldn't work But if you look in the group finder, there are always a ton of groups looking for people

Well I did it, I bought Shadowlands.

Question: I've not played since WotLK, and I'm totally out of touch with the game. Is there any reason NOT to start over from scratch?

I spent a few hours online yesterday and it seems like reputation/collections/etc are account based now and not character based. If I dump all my equipment and gold into the bank and then delete my character, immediately recreating her as a brand new level 1, am I permanently deleting anything I can't get back? Soulbound gear would be gone of course, but all my gear is woefully under leveled anyways...

Not all of that is account bound, but achievements, mounts, heirloom gear are.
I do suggest making a new character as it is so easy to level up now. Sell your crap and mail it to the new character.

If you have WoTLK character you like and want to play I would start there as you can pick up the class play from that point pretty easy after an hour or so. Starting fresh is also a good idea as that can help by giving you a quick tutorial in the new starting area.

Do some research, items from back then that aren't in game can be very valuable these days. If you are a collector like me and have a character who has one of those items, you may want to keep that character even if you don't plan to play them just so you can say you have it (I have a dk with the Lichbane rune which I think was removed before even Cata was a thing). Then again in games I'm a damn dirty hoarder, but we have 32 slot bags now.

I keep trying but man I'm finding Shadowlands to be SO BORING. I hope it improves after Bastion because I could not be less interested in what's going on.

You should be out of Bastion in like 4-5 hours if memory serves.
I really liked the next section (Maldraxxus?) and what I played of Ardenweald. (about an hour in)

I find Bastion and Revendreth to be the worst other than the Maw.

What Lunchbox said.

If you're starting at Lvl 1, I'd suggest you pick the Exile's Reach option, which doubles as a tutorial. A *lot* of stuff has changed since Wrath. If you want to do the race-specific starter zone, you can always roll another toon and do it later.

If you want to do the race-specific starter zone, you can always roll another toon and do it later do it after you complete Exiles Reach for an easy and quick 10+ levels.

The newb zones are a super easy way to further get you comfortable with your class/changes while netting you 10+ levels quickly.
Even if you plan on doing one of the expansions, I highly recommend going through either Redridge Mountains or Hillsbrad Foothills first or when you need a break from the expansion you are working through.

Well I'm out of Bastion, but I think the issue I have with Shadowlands is just going to persist. I should have known that I wouldn't enjoy this expansion, since the idea of the afterlife as an adventuring area is just so much of a turn off for me.

This expansion does seem really polarizing. I’m enjoying it, probably in part because I found a guild filled with old folks like me that has been fun to hang out with.

Having people to play with would sure help me enjoy it more. I've been soloing for ages.

Yeah, I need to group up more.

A quick GWJ Alliance guild update:

I posted us in the in-game guild recruitment system. That makes it easy to apply, as you don't have to track me down in game, and you don't have to be on for me to toss you a guild invite.

That said, my wide net has attracted a couple of applicants who are sitting in the guild application queue because I have no idea who they are.

If you'd like to be in the guild and apply through the guild recruitment tool, please send me a note -- either via a GWJ message or in-game mail (to Jorrn) -- with your toon name and whether this is your first character in the guild or an alt. Either are welcome.

To find the guild, make sure you're Alliance and on either the Blackhand or Galakrond servers, and look for "GWJ Alliance." See ya in game.

So I'm ending my sub for a bit as I don't think there's enough for me to do until the story advances further. Now, of course, there are things to do, but pvp, raiding, and the Maw are all minor levels of hell to me.
Maybe I should have ground out that Maw mount from Torghast.

Made a new alt on blackhand, boosted to 50. Went with a monk. Also requested an invite to the guild.

I think I saw yours in the queue today. Let me know if you have trouble w the guild invite. And welcome/welcome back!

What’s the point of having that first slot with the higher I level in the Great Vault if it’s always going to give me something I’m already wearing?

Anima: Where should I be getting it from?

I've been doing every activity I know of that rewards anima, mostly world quests and the mission table. I haven't been keeping precise track but I seem to be gaining something like 1000 reservoir anima per week. Judging by the anima costs of the various sanctum upgrades and reputation rewards, though, that seems very slow - most of them cost in the tens of thousands, and there are a lot of those. I find it hard to believe that we're really expected to take months to save up for each item. What am I missing?

I had the same issue and I now assume it's one of those things that either you hardcore grind out or just wait until they start dumping out more per wq or whatever. Either through time or paragon levels.

The weekly quest(s) ask for 1000 per week, but Anima comes a little faster than that. Keep the mission table rolling on your phone and prioritize world quests that give Anima when you do your callings and you should be able to get 2-3k per week.

But yeah, this is a slow burn. The anima rewards are probably meant to last through most of the expansion, not just until patch 9.1.

I also expect that we'll see the supply increased somehow, as a kind of catch-up mechanic. That's basically how they handled Artifact Power, and it could fit with the lore as we come out of Denathrius' Anima drought. They're already increasing the number of souls we get per week as Renown increases.

There are also 2 weekly dungeon quests you can pick up in the basement in Oribos. It is located under the Innkeeper in Oribos. Along with anima you also get to pick a faction to gain rep with.
