NCAA Football 2020-21 Season

Ohio State-Michigan is off.

Slightly off topic: I would love a time traveler from now to go back exactly one year to someone and just tell them all the stuff cancelled and have them guess what happened to the world.

I feel like you'd have to guess "Pandemic" somewhere in your Top 5, right? Or would the time traveler assume we couldn't possibly be hosting large sporting events during a pandemic?

(My first guess would be "Half-Life 3 finally came out.")

Anyway, Michigan's hilarious, evil plan didn't work. OSU is in.

Yeah B1G screwing Indiana to protect their best playoff chance. And breaking the stupid rules they waited until Oct to implement.

Yeah. I'm obviously biased, but this seems scummy to me. In just about any competition, the rules are laid out ahead of time, and once the contest begins you can't alter them.

On the other hand, one of those five wins was BEATING INDIANA, so it’s hard to put them in the game over Ohio State.

Ultimately, you either need to acknowledge that all of this is a bad idea and call it all off, or you need to acknowledge that you want/need all the money and fame you can get, and OSU gives you the better shot at that brass ring if they’re in the playoffs.

B1G just made the money grab.

Like everyone else is doing this year.

Down the bye-shoe

Nice to see Louisville kick butt when winning the turnover battle finally. Every loss this season, except the 12-7 at Notre Dame, we lost the turnover battle, a couple of games by 3. Could have been 10-1... Instead 4-7 because we didn't protect the ball.

Also enjoyed UNC destroying Miami. 1 RB over 300 and another over 200, nearly 800 yards of offense total.

The Cleat Yeet is brilliant, Pred. What a crazy game. What a dumbass penalty.

I'm on pins and needles to see what the committee will do on Tuesday. This devalues, potentially, our best win - but does it improve our win against LSU, where some pundits said we weren't convincing (despite preventing any TDs until the last minute of the game)?

It gets better.

Cal's season is over. The game against WSU was cancelled hours before kickoff and the game against Arizona next week has also been cancelled given the positive case at Cal and whatever is going at UofA. (Sumlin fired).

We can argue whether we should have played at all, but the fact is we were given the go ahead, and we gave it a shot. Rather than "play through" Covid, the strict rules around our team and the conference basically cancelled 3 games. I'm glad they tried, but I'm even more encouraged that they had the gumption to actually cancel the games rather than play it with positive cases as I'm sure other teams or conferences have done.

From my stupid college football standpoint, here's to hoping the "Rose Bowl" gets moved out of Pasadena so whatever non-pac-12 teams get to play it doesn't really play it, and it doens't really count, and here's to a healthier 2021.

Whelp, Vandy has now cancelled on UGA's senior day twice.

I totally get and support covid cancellations and acknowledge that UGA's good fortune on virus front is due the support of the University's public health school, Athens relatively small size and luck. But c'mon Vandy. Y'all are a freaking rich ass private school. I mean, sure Nashville probably has clouds or covid drifting off from Music Row but have your team wear a freaking mask. Plus it would have been neat to see Sarah Fuller kick between the hedges.

As a weirdo Aggie literature major, let me say that The Aiming of the Shoe makes my day.

So I just discovered that one of the UGA reporters/podcasters has a brilliant video series on twitter/youtube about high school football.

If anyone has ever spent a Friday night driving in the South, searching for something to listen to on the radio these will ring true:

Also, Wes does a mean Matthew McConaughey:

Anyway, figured some of you would appreciate and he's a good cfb twitter follow.

The one I saw on Reddit was:

YEETUS CLEATUS PLAYOFF DELETUS

Think the hammer is about to drop on bowls. 6 ACC teams have opted out already. Not going to be enough teams to fill the agreements. I think we're going to get NY6 and playoffs, and that's it.

Some bowls have already opted out. I saw somewhere that they were considering allowing teams to have an extra game after the conference championships to make up for missed games.

Just stick a fork in the season

Let it goooooooooo.....

It’s ovah

I admit the idea of Louisville v Kentucky in Nashville Music City Bowl was appealing a couple months because of SEC not playing out of conference games. But yeah, probably best to call it.

Marshall may make a bowl after all! Because there has never been a check my alma mater won't cash.

App State has agreed to appear in the new Myrtle Beach Bowl, which (a) is actually in Conway, which is a few miles up the road, and (b) the home field of Sun Belt rival Coastal Carolina, which kicked the crap out of the Mountaineers this season.

I would have turned down the bid on general principles, but I'm not the App AD who's trying to save what's left of his budget.

In the 3rd quarter, my team has 0 passing yards. And I didn't go to a military academy.

Edit: 2 & 8, with 7:53 left in the fourth, Marshall completes their first pass.

Clemson looks a little better against ND with all their starters.

Soon:

The CFP Committee has yet to pick a team that lost their conference championship game, let alone one that was completely shown up. I think ND was eliminated today. Being dominated by a full strength Clemson recontextualizes their best win, which took multiple overtimes at home.

Obviously, I also want to think that.

Additionally, the committee has never put in a two-loss team.

I think it's

1. Bama
2. Clemson
3. Ags
4. OSU

I realize the membership of the committee isn't static, but that makes the most sense based on their past actions, including having us at 5 all year.

If only the SEC had changed their conference championship game like every other P5 did.

If A&M had been playing and avenged their loss to Alabama tonight, they'd be in.

Most likely is Bama, Clemson, OSU, ND.

I'm lost on that first paragraph. What didn't they do?

I really have a hard time seeing ND in after that loss. Recency bias.

Edit: Wrong.

I think it should be Cal and Oregon State.. we are both1-0 against P5 Conference Champions. If we only had to pick 1, I suppose it has to be Oregon State since Cal lost to them (we shouldn't have but oh well). It was a quality loss but it would be hypocritical of me to think that is more important than actually beating the conference champion.

EDIT: Oh, well looking more carefully, as Washington was supposed to represent the Pac-12 North in the championship game but due to Covid wasn't able to play, so they slid Oregon in. Oregon State therefore is 1-1 against P5 Champions OR P5 "potential" Championship participants. Cal's game against UW was cancelled therefore we are 1-0 and have the better winning % against P5 Champions PLUS Potential P5 Champions.

That settles it, Cal should be in.

So it is.

And jeez, Cincy won to stay undefeated, so of course Oklahoma moves ahead of them for a better bowl.
