Minecraft

Bedrock version on a locally-hosted server that only I ever play on. (I wanted to play in my world from work but didn't want to pay for a Realm.)

The villages definitely are not in sight of where I spend most of my time.

Ah, if you're playing multiplayer the loaded chunks are different.

In multiplayer mode, a grid with a default inradius of 10 (for a total of 21x21 or 441) chunks is loaded around each player and sent to the player by default, although this can be configured to be between 3 and 15, usually only lowered with a poor connection home server.

Also 16x16 chunks around spawn are always loaded, so if the villages are in that range they will always be active.

16x16 chunks would be everything that appears on a zoom level 1 map, right? Hmm.

Thanks for the info!

I discovered my first minecraft fossil- a giant ribcage. I excavated around it and opened up the area to the surface. I placed some simple fences and scaffolding around it to give it the appearance that workers have been working here and are preparing to move it.

I may make this setup a bit more elaborate in the future. There's a zombie spawner near the surface about 20 blocks away, and a fairly large abandoned mineshaft directly connected to this at the bottom, so this would be a nice place to hang around and continue to develop.

EDIT:
After exploring the abandoned mineshaft I discovered these: A skelleton spawner next to a cave spider spawner, and two cave spider spawners right next to each other.

I have a single cave spawner that I've turned into an XP farm, but if I can convert one or both of these into a farm that would double my XP output. I'll be mending my tools in half the time.

Nice. Multi spawners are pretty rare.

Love the 'dig site'.

I've started up my world again. It's the only way I can stay focused in meetings that last too long. Kinda funny really.

I'd forgotten what I was doing, but I found a nether fortress and am getting set up to rip through it... problem is I have to build a tunnel to it as the convenient way to get there literally continuously spawns blazes and whither skeletons... might try to build a grinder there... not sure how though.

Ha, cave spiders are bad enough, but 2 spawners right next to each other? Evil.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do next in my game. I keep getting thrashed every time I go to the Nether---something that isn't helped by having my spawn on the edge of a cliff in a Soul Sand Valley. As soon as I go through, I'm mobbed by skeletons and ghasts trying to bounce me off the edge.

At the same time, I feel like I've kinda exhausted what I can do around my little settlement. I can pack up and move across the world, I guess, but that feels like a waste.

The obvious answer is to start a new world.

A bow can make quick work of Ghasts.

LOL I hear that.... or we could all raid your server and build you a defensive barrier around your portal. I have a nice little fort on both sides of mine. Dug under the lava to go where I want... it's also a good depth for certain materials.

Start the game in peaceful mode, build defenses, turn monsters back on. I use this trick unabashedly for RNG nightmares.

For my first trip into the Nether I always make sure to bring about a stack or more of cobblestone or other building block with a high blast resistance. Then I build a wall around my portal mostly so Ghasts don't shoot at it and break it, but also so I'm safer from other mobs too.

Also, I'm not above running to the nearest wall of Netherrack and tunneling straight through to see if where I come out on the other end is more hospitable, when needed.

My tactics for cave spiders depending on how good my equipment is/how much I want to get involved with them:

1) Turn around and leave the moment I see the long row of cobwebs.

2) Block off that tunnel and ignore them.

3) Attack the cobwebs with my sword (or shears) to get to the spawner and place a torch on it ASAP.

For the two cave spider spawner, I fought off one spider from each spawner before disabling them, then left any others lurking in the dark alone. They'll have despawned by the next time I'm in the area.

I've followed a decent tutorial for a cave spider XP farm before and it works really well. I'm thinking it should be not too complicated to adapt it to accommodate two spawners. But I don't have a skeleton XP farm in my world yet, so I'm tempted to try that double spawner first for the endless bonemeal.

I obtained a Woodland Explorer map today, and flew out several thousand blocks to the Woodland Mansion on it. At one point I was suddenly attacked by a zombie and a vindicator at the same time. I quickly tried to run away and got the "bright" idea to use my elytra to escape. I shot off the firework and sailed down the long hallway, but hit the wall at the end with too much force and died.

Luckily I had set my bed/spawn on the roof of the mansion, so I quickly ran back to where I had died to get all my equipment. When I got there I found the zombie in my full armor- netherite boots, leggings and a gold helmet (all fully enchanted with protection 4), and he also had equipped my elytra, shield and netherite sword (maxed out on all enchantments except fire aspect).

I ran to the pile of my other stuff still laying on the ground, but only picked up my netherite hoe. So there I was, no armor, with only a hoe for damage, trying to hit, yet keep away from the deadliest/most protected zombie that ever existed in Minecraft. It took forever, and at times I wondered if it was ever going to die, but I finally killed it and was able to obtain all my stuff.

For my troubles of raiding this mansion I got one totem of undying, a few ok enchanted books, and some emeralds. So long story short, mansions aren't worth the trouble.

They used to be, since they were the only source for Totems of Undying. You can get those much more easily in raids now. Heck, we've started using them as wall decorations on GWJ Vanilla server.

Probably more valuable if you do it early - once you start beating end game you have definitely passed it up.

True. Although they are usually farther from the world spawn than the Stronghold- so chances are most people beat the dragon before they ever find a mansion. Seems silly.

They're soooooo farrrrrrrrrr away. It's crazy.

Two things:

1) I HATE my nether. Not "THE" nether, but the nether in my world. I've got elytra and fireworks and I want to fly around and explore, but everywhere I go there's walls of netherrack blocking me, tiny caves and large lava oceans with dangerously low ceilings. I want to be able to fly off in one direction to see if I can find a bastion, but keep hitting dead ends everywhere.

2) I finally got around to building an iron farm. I'd been putting it off for so long, and everyone says it's a must have farm. Now I'm feeling really bad for the 3 villagers I'm eternally terrifying with a zombie just so I can get iron. And I used over 6 stacks of rails to get them from their village to where I was building the farm. If I have access to that many rails do I really need the iron?

So, your response to the trolley problem was, "is there a way we can drag out the fear and torture?"

As someone who did almost the same thing getting some villagers into an Iron farm - yes the amount of Iron just 3 villagers can make quickly outweighs the rails used.

I always stop trying to get iron farms to work right... you guys on Java or Bedrock? And what model did you use?

I'm on Java and I used this tutorial from Wattles. He also made a second video on some improvements to the farm that I also used.

And in my defense of the farm, the villagers I used had built their village on a ravine and then promptly fell into it. So they had chosen that sort of tormented life already.

I did enclose the farm so I wouldn't see the mechanics working on the inside. It works very well and I've had no issues with it so far.

Here is the one I used.

I don't think I've ever built an iron farm in Vanilla, though I have played on MP servers that had them.

The one "must have" farm IMO is a blaze farm.

Ender Pearls, for me.

I just logged into my minecraft world and found my storage area looking very Christmassy.

Also, when will someone finally do something about global warming? This poor polar bear.

I feel we should blame the republockans.

(I'm so sorry. I couldn't resist.)

Anyone else having trouble crafting netherite items in Bedrock edition?

I'm putting a perfect, new diamond pickaxe in the Smithing Table first box and a netherite ingot in the second box and it gives me a red X -- anyone know if I'm doing something or if Bedrock is bugged?

Silly question but are you sure, you're using a netherite ingot, and not a netherite scrap? (Ancient debris smelts into netherite scraps, then it takes 4 netherite scraps plus 4 gold ingots to make a netherite ingot.)

If it's not that, I don't know. I'm playing on Java, but I believe the mechanics should be the same for Bedrock.

I'm using the wrong tool - I was using the anvil
