Star Wars: Squadrons Catch All - Lock S-Foils in Attack Position!

IMO, it was because people had their expectations up so high that this was going to be the next TIE Fighter/X-Wing and the reality was never going to be that, so now people are disappointed.

Says you, my expectations were through the floor and it still fell beneath them. I know a lot of people like it and that's fine, but I think overall it's garbage.

I never did finish the final campaign in TIE Fighter Collector's CD-ROM Edition. That was an insane amount of content.

And I've done the entire thing 3 times. Once on Hard even.

But that was in the 90s when I was in school or college and had all the time in the world.

Same. I just completed my, I think, forth run through this last year, took foreeeeever.

I played a lot of the dogfighting when this came out but the lack of depth has made me lose interest. There's some solid fun to be had but it's disappointing that they've built such a cool infrastructure to leave so thin.

I saw there was an update with Track IR so I went ahead and tried my much cheaper SmoothTrack phone app and OpenTrack on PC which I picked up and configured for MS Flight Sim. It worked without any additional configuration. I see the complaints about how restricted the Tie Fighter views are now. I eventually just turned it off again and played a few rounds.

This is why I said people in general and not specifically Veloxi "Space Sim Messiah".

I ARE A PEOPLE

Okay that got me, that was good.

We're all stuck being Veloxi's Vixens.

Yes but you like Rebel Galaxy and the most fun part of that game is playing pool.

Whaaaaaaaat? The combat is so great, second only to Freespace 2.

I'm so excited, I bought this a while back but didn't really play. My in-laws are buying my son an Oculus Quest 2 for Christmas!

I liked that combat more when it was in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag.

I should have been more precise. The sailing-ship-in-space combat in the original Rebel Galaxy actually is interesting. The combat in Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, which is the one where you can play pool, is trash.

And I actually love both, like Veloxi.

Broadside capital ships is fun.

Space fighter pew pew is fun.

$17 at Amazon today for PS4/5 version. Guess I'm in... well, in a week.

EA has released a $40 Star Wars triple play bundle. Included is Jedi Fallen Order, Battlefront 2, and Squadrons. Great price if you don't already own all 3.

I could probably handle Fallen Order on a console, but I really wouldn't want to play BF2 with a gamepad. M+KB still better for pure shooting.

Where's that price? It's showing as $99 on Origin. Console only?

EDIT: $99 on PS store too.

Huh. The press release I read over on the inventory said $40, but I see $99 when I go to the sites, too! Better go edit the post in the deals thread to remove that.

Going to gently point out that if you grab your $10 Epic Coupon you can pick up Squadrons for $14.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know if you can play Squadrons purchased from the Epic Store with VR, or does it need to be on Steam to use their VR tie-in? (Sorry...I'm an Oculus newb. )

I bought it through Epic and it works with my Valve Index. Of course, it does mean that I have to be logged in to Epic, Steam, and EA Origin at the same time... which I usually am.

Epic store is better for it if you have Oculus hardware as it uses the EA launcher / version. This means you get native Oculus support unlike the steam version. From what I have read this equates to better performance and a smoother experience.

Looks like my copy might be here before Christmas after all

I didn't realize this! Will check out that article (and that site in general).

Thanks to all for the responses!

Hello, just saw that Squadrons added TrackIR support... guess I'm in now!

It's not bad - not the next X-Wing v Tie Fighter, but an enjoyable, albeit short romp, into the Star Wars Universe.

I quite like the actual game, but the janky multiplayer is really getting on my nerves:

- long matchmaking times;
- match fails to load and drops me back to the main menu with an error, only for Squadrons to slap me with a "leaver penalty" that makes matchmaking take EVEN LONGER;
- after uninstalling, freeing up space on my SSD, re-installing on the SSD, and clawing my way back into EA's good graces, I end up with a match stuck on a loading screen. When I quit and re-launch the game, it threatens me to re-join or face a leaver penalty. I re-join and ... end up stuck on the loading screen again.

As someone who bought this game for the MP, it's bad enough that I encounter these errors - it's even worse when the game adds insult to injury by penalising me for its own failings.

Not sure what your internet setup is like, but check to make sure you are not blocking it from communicating with certain ports/destinations. Multiplayer matchmaking gets really janky if it thinks it can communicate to all that is required but really cannot.

Thanks Nimcosi - is there a guide you'd recommend? I doubt it's my internet setup as I can usually connect successfully, and other games give me no difficulty, but I can look further into it.

Well according to EA, SWS only needs TCP: 80, 443, 8080 and UDP: 443, 3659. However, when I was poking around, it appears to use a whole range of UDP ports for multiplayer. So, unless you are default blocking all UDP you are probably fine. I would still investigate a bit , and if nothing else take a look at your Windows Firewall settings.
