Weekly Drawing Prompt Thread

Here's the seventh installment of December Deadline! One week down, a bunch to go!

It's been fun to follow December Deadline, and even more fun to let us throw in ideas.

Maybe you run down several flights of stairs and eventually notice a window washer and catch a ride, seeing fun things along the way down.

You may have already written past that, in which case, maybe there's a parade that you have to navigate around when you get back on street level.

Or, porque no los dos?

Not a challenge pic but a commission that was really fun to work on...

I have no idea what's happening in tomorrow's installment yet, or I should say I did not have any idea until now, heeheehee. Por qué no los dos indeed!

And I'm glad you're having fun seeing the "story" unfold. I have to say, it is very liberating to just make things up as I go instead of having a plan to follow. Also, if I come up with something lame, I can always claim "Well, I'm making it up as I go, so what can you expect?" It's a win/win/win.

Here's the thirteenth installment of "December Deadline." Now that I typed "thirteenth," it occurred to me I should have had a reference to the Antonio Banderas movie. Oh, well...

I'm thinking that you need to get through as many different kinds of transport over the course of the journey as possible. We've had car, subway train, dragon... something on a boat? An opportunity for pirates!

My 'Yeti':

Super awesome yeti, Ravanon!

As for December Deadline, I like the idea of many means of transportation. I'll work a boat in somehow!

Here's today's installment:

honestly i don't know how you do it. I've gotten precisely three (3) panels done of a comic i've been trying to put together since last year.

I would say it's because I have more free time this month now that my college classes are over for the semester and the classes I teach are almost done as well, and because I'm f*cking stubborn and when I say I'll do something, I do it. But honestly, I think the main reason is because I'm not taking it too seriously. I'm not striving for perfection or anything involving higher thought --I'm just having fun and hoping whoever follows the story chuckles here and there and is moderately entertained. I have done more "serious" comic books over the years, and they took waaaaaaaaay too long to complete because I was obsessing over every detail and trying to be as close to perfect as possible (spoiler: everything was far from perfect, and I mean far). Here I'm just putting stuff on the page as quickly as I can come up with it, so it doesn't matter how close to "perfect" it is. I mean, I'm using a fat Sharpie to do the panels and there isn't a ruler in sight to give me even one straight line, hahaha. The backgrounds are lacking! The perspective is nonexistent! My understanding of lighting is atrocious! My inking skills are almost as bad as my coloring skills! But I'm just having fun, and that keeps me going. I have found that, if I keep it light and think of it one page at a time and have no plan beyond that page, I don't get overwhelmed with the length of the project. There is no big story to tell or different beats to set up --whatever happens, happens, and if it doesn't turn out all that great, well, there's always tomorrow. Also, the fact that the sketchbook I'm using is 9 x 12 inches (22.9 x 30.5 cm for those of you who use measuring systems that actually make sense) makes drawing a page seem a lot more achievable than using 11 x 17 pages, which is what the pros use. (And in case you haven't noticed, I'm far from being a pro, haha.)

Wow. I did not mean to write that much, but I hope my "insights" help or, at least, amuse. I'll compensate with a bunch of pictures tomorrow.

I agree with the multiple modes of transportation.
Consider:
hang glider
snail
jelly fish
electric scooter
zip line
cardboard
turtle
pneumatic tube
riding a bomb like a bronco
boogie board
hot tub limo
roaring rapids

Hahaha! Great suggestions, fangblackbone! We're about to see about three more in the next couple of pages, I think, so stay tuned!

Here's the 17th installment of "December Deadline," that wacky story:
