Played yesterday for the first time on a PC with 34" monitor. The game looks gorgeous!
I struggled with a XBox 360 controller, but didn't want to go K/M, so dug out my 1997 Sidewinder Precision Pro, and am having more luck, especially after adjusting the dead space sensitivity. I'm several missions into the story now.
The game seems to think the stick has more than 9 buttons, even though Windows 10 detected it perfectly and knows what it has. "Press button 12 to launch". Umm...
I'm working on custom keyboard settings to address this deficiency. A new HOTAS might be on request from Santa.

Start looking now. Like everything PC related, it's all marked up and out of stock.
But is so, so worth it.
B-Wings and TIE Defenders coming in updates.
B-Wing. Finally.
I wonder how they're going to balance the TIE Defender. Hopefully whatever they do to it makes me like it better than the original.
I also wonder if they'll give the B-Wing that Death Star-like beam weapon that the prototype in Rebels had. I mean, they functionally gave it to Y-Wings and TIE Bombers; the real question is whether we'll get the cool visual effect of the combining beams.
I demand full s-foil functionality for B-wings!
After hearing from some jerk that they weren't working on any new content for this game I basically wrote it off. Im not sure why but hearing it didnt have a future soured me on what is there. Maybe because the non-multiplayer parts are too thin.
I'd pay plenty for remakes of classic Xwing/TIE fighter missions, whole campaigns, whatever. A coop campaign I'd pay for too. I hope they understand they have a hungry audience. We're hostage to them and their license ownership, so to leave us hungry is... cruel!

I thought the same. Haven't tried the game yet.

Get it on sale.
Thanksgiving sales next week.... good idea.

It'll likely be on sale then given it's already been on sale a few times since release.
Star Wars: Squadrons is not the greatest space flight combat sim of all time. But, it IS very fun, and fairly well balanced at this time.
When this game is clicking it's amazing, but to me the balance feels pretty off. I just played 5 different Dogfight matches, 3 as Imperial and 2 as Rebel. In all 5 games, Rebels won by an average margin of 3-1. Scores were 30-10, 30-11, 30-9, etc. Completely different players, switching sides, and yet the same consistent result. I have a lot of fun in a Rebel ship but on the Imperial side I feel like I'm just trying to get a few lasers on target before I'm vaporized.
Is there something with the Imperial ships that people just aren't figuring out? Because apparently it's not just me.

I would say the two factions are admirable well balanced. I was skeptical how they would make things competitive when the Rebels have shields and the Imps don't (hmm, is the TIE Defender going to have shields?), but the Imperial ships' ability to instantly shunt power to engines or weapons as needed is very powerful when utilized judiciously. There is also the issue that the Imperial side has the TIE Bomber, which was/is very broken.
I have seen the Rebel side get 30-5 wins and I've seen the Imperial side do the same, player skill level is the determining factor above all.
Crosspost:
Come to the Dark Side: Green Man Gaming has Star Wars: Squadrons for $21.59. Looks to be the Origin version, but there is cross platform play, join us!
Console version looks like it will be $16 at Gamestop next week.
But yeah that's the lowest yet for PC. Same price at Fanatical.
Anybody still playing? Checked out the B-Wing or TIE Defender yet?
I personally have not tried them yet. I'm off to a late start and I'm still working on the single-player campaign. But I figure I should wrap that up and at least dip my toe into the multiplayer pool to see if this is worth a number or an honorable mention in my GotY list.

Still play, but CP2077 is taking up ALL my gaming time at the moment. Once I get over that hump, I will dive back in. If nothing else, I find it enjoyable to put in a few pickup games once in awhile.
Played a few matches over the weekend. I rather like the Defender, although once shields are gone the hull is paper-thin. The B-Wing looks like it has a combination of laser/ion cannons, which is helpful vs. Defenders and Reapers. The cockpit gyro lets you swing the entire fuselage around the cockpit - it looks cool in VR but I'm struggling to see what the point is in the game.
I'm slowly going through the campaign. It's okay. The motion capture is simply the best I've ever seen. Really knocked it out of the park here and that's even with having played Cyberpunk and it's own excellent subtleties.
Playing the game though, I'm bored by the end of a mission? It's pretty and feels okay, but every mission has felt the same so far.
Guess I should play some MP.
I passed on the Thanksgiving sale as I was playing a lot of other stuff. And now I have a PS5 so decision on that or PC to make.
I'll be playing with a game pad either way. And PC doesn't have 4k setup. So leaning PS5 I think.
No. No no no. I refuse to believe that EA made a good Star Wars Flight Simulator.

Good, because they didn't.
I haven't played MP yet, but I adores the SP campaign.
Yeah, I think this is a great game, and I don't quite understand the hate or disappointment.
IMO, it was because people had their expectations up so high that this was going to be the next TIE Fighter/X-Wing and the reality was never going to be that, so now people are disappointed.
Can't speak for anybody else, but for me the disappointment stems from wanting a robust single player experience akin to X-Wing or Tie Fighter, and instead -according to reviews and anecdotes, I haven't played it myself at this point- it's more a lackluster single player campaign and a focus on multiplayer, which I'll never engage with, personally.
I never did finish the final campaign in TIE Fighter Collector's CD-ROM Edition. That was an insane amount of content.
