Warhammer 40k: Darktide! Vermintide in spaaaace!

Gameplay vid looks great!

YEESSSSSS!

Wow, yes please.

I love the idea but not so sure about the characters. They just don’t have as much personality (at least from the trailer) as the Vermintide heroes. The sister of battle looks awesome though.

Just tagging this thread.

I <3 my Ubersreik 5, but they've had years now to build up the lore. Does it help that Dan Abnett is going to help develop the Darktide lore?

(News is a couple of weeks old, but forgot to update this thread)

There's a closed beta on Steam for the next few days if anyone's interested

https://steamcommunity.com/games/136...

I got in this morning about two hours after clicking the link - I'll be around if we want to team up this weekend.

So I've been playing all weekend, and this game is fantastic. It's Vermintide dialed up to 11. They kept the great melee combat, and buffed the ranged combat to the same level. This means that the combat area is vastly expanded, and you need to worry about both ranged and melee attacks at the same time. The weapons are satisfying and weighty, and the specials are suitably fearsome if not handled correctly (I'm looking at YOU trappers, you bastards). Highly recommend as the best game in the series.

Game was pretty fun. Everything is always DARK though. I get we're in a hive city and daylight isn't really a thing. (Btw, just found the flashlight on my lasgun)

Hope they get push to talk or we're going to need a solid group here.

Well, it IS in the title.

I played a few hours of the beta and will definitely be picking this up. I hope the items and progression are good to keep people playing.

The Ogryn's special Blitz ability is throwing an entire box of grenades.

The first few times I did this I was expecting a massive explosion but there was nothing. Then I read that this is basically how the Ogryn operates. He doesn't stop to consider pulling the pins before throwing it.

Essentially it is a gigantic heavy box, good for single target damage. I threw one at a mauler's stomach and he hilariously folded in half and flew back several feet.

Although at trust level 10 you get a Feat that makes it blow up if you use it on Carapace armored enemies (not sure who those are).

I found it interesting that each copy of every weapon has its own randomized moveset. This means you aren't learning the optimal attack patterns for a weapon but rather for your copy of your weapon and so I suppose we may be re-rolling weapons just to get the best patterns.

I'll definitely be playing a lot of this at release, although I think it will be a while before it can supplant Vermintide 2 for me.

I'm assuming this is the more or less the catch-all for Darktide?

Locked in for the early release for pre-orders! I only have a passing familiarity with Vermintide 2 but I've only seen glowing praise for the closed beta. And the W40K setting? Of course I'm down for that!

I'm getting pretty hyped for the game as well! Started looking into weapons and builds today.

It is a day 1 Gamepass game.

Pre-order beta is available, and it is glorious. That is all.

Any initial thoughts? I won't be able to boot up the pre-order Beta until late tonight but I've already heard a fair bit of grousing about poor performance even on beefy rigs.

Had to buy after seeing this. Will try this weekend. I like Vermintide I am curious what separates them.

really enjoying what I’ve played of it so far tonight but I cannot express how frustrating it can be playing as a sharpshooter with ogryn on the team.

Some people are definitely having performance issues ... but I'm not one of them, so I can't speak to that. Clearly a LOT of people are able to play because the servers are packed and matchmaking is nearly instant. There's some stability issues surrounding server communication, and I have been disconnected a few times (though I was usually able to reconnect).

Gameplay wise it's been refined a bit since the beta. Level 3 is definitely the firewall - the first time you get rushed by a real horde is a significant emotional experience. Ogryn feels about the same. Psykers are dealing with higher Peril costs slowing them down a bit. Rando pubbies are about what you'd expect, and they start to suicide on level 3.

I'm starting to think that the Ogryn should be a backliner with the grenade launcher, focusing on crowd control and recovering people. It's a HUGE force multiplier to know that if you're in trouble there will be a sudden explosion and they will all fall down.

Thanks Aetius!
Is it possible to have duplicate classes on a team?

Have you noticed particular classes emerging as frontrunners in popularity?

I plan to build a Zealot first and if dupes aren't allowed in teams I'll have a Veteran Sharpshooter on the side.

Only played through the Prologue last night. High detail on 1440p, RT disabled, DLSS (performance) enabled and capped framerate at 120 and I was seeing a dippy 45 - 70 fps.

Yes - you can have all four Ogryn if you want, and you'll sometimes get mismatched groups from the matchmaker. I've won a mission with three Ogryn.

As far as favorites, it seems pretty balanced at the moment, so I can't really tell.

Does anyone know if this will be on GeForce Now or Microsoft cloud streaming?

Dug around a bit and found some more info:

Yes on GFN: https://9to5google.com/2022/11/18/ba....

Among a slew of other games coming to GeForce Now this week, a long-awaited addition to the Warhammer franchise is barraging its way down from the cloud early. Before others can play, GeForce Now members are able to suit up in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide in the cloud.

Played a few hours last night after a buddy gifted it to me.

Really, really enjoyable and pretty much exactly what I'd want for "Vermintide in Space." My only initial gripe is that the couple ranged weapons I've used are highly inaccurate, while in Vermintide some of the default weapons were great.

the sharpshooter's default lasgun is pretty accurate. Most others are not as they're meant for close or medium distance shooting. Also, if you're being "suppressed" (aka being shot at) your accuracy goes way down.

Solo play and customs hopefully at launch, but if not in December. Looking forward to that to get some reps in.

The Ogryn's default shotgun is surprisingly accurate at range, though it doesn't do a lot of damage.

When’s a good time to bump up to difficulty level 2?
