Cartoon watchers with jobs

Watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame and it was a bit darker than the usual disney flare. Reminded me of how some people will kill other people because they can't handle being attracted to the person. I liked the movie don't know why I waited so long to see it. I'm not sure but I don't I usually see Esmeralda included with the other princesses.

I’m finishing up the last few episodes of The Owl House on Disney+. Damn that show is good! I’m going to look into the writer’s other work.

Season 2 of Hilda comes out on Monday,.

Yay!

Nice!!!

Hey, so question about Kipo. I'm 4 episodes into the show and I'm just not feeling it so far. I went into it expecting something on the level of Avatar, The Dragon Prince, or She-Ra -- shows that balanced comedy with intense drama and action. Kipo, on the other hand, is looking more like a "feel good" fluffy show about love and friendship. I was rolling my eyes pretty hard seeing how the conflicts were resolved in "Cactus Town".

Although, the show is hyping Scarlemagne up to be this bad big villain, so I don't know what to think. So here's my question: Does Kipo become more dramatic later on (such as when Scarlemagne enters the picture) and I should keep watching or does it stay light & fluffy and I should put it on the backburner for a future sick day when I'm curled up on the couch under a blanket?

Keep watching. I mean, ultimately it is an older kids show like the others so there is no "will the crew die' stuff but their is definitely tension and good story in the whole show.

There's definitely some tension & drama later on, but on the whole it is definitely a light & fluffy show that's all about the power of love, forgiveness, and friendship.
I haven't seen The Dragon Prince but it's definitely fluffier than Avatar and She-Ra. If you're not up for that kind of show right now it'd be better to save it for when you are. Otherwise you might strain an eye muscle from how most of their problems get solved.

The things I like about the Kipo series:
Sense of humor
Interesting villains
The music is GREAT!
The world and art style are unique

I love the interaction between Kipo and friends. I felt like there was an underlying theme of being good to those around you regardless of how f*cked up the world is. That’s kind of my life’s philosophy. Radical kindness.

One thing I love about doing radical kindness is when someone who’s behaving like a jerk gets their mind blown by someone else who treats them with dignity while they are in the midst of their jerk-tantrum. I was able to do that last night at work. So funny how a guy can go from tearing me a new asshole to wishing me a good weekend in less than 15 seconds.

Haha, alright. I'll put it on the backburner for now. I started watching Kipo immediately after finishing She-Ra and wanting something else like it. Kipo is a good show, but it's not what I'm in the mood for right now.

Any suggestions on cartoons I should check out? Maybe now's a good time to start watching Voltron or Young Justice.

Yeah you may be in a Young Justice mood it seems It has plenty of tension to spare.

I vote Harely Quinn on HBO Max. My wife and I are laughing our asses off.
But very NSFW or kids.

Yeah, Harley Quinn is awesome. I can't wait for season 3.

This isn’t animated, but The Boys on Amazon Video is gritty, hilarious, and very well written. It’s a very dark take on superheroes. Live action. Great production all around.

Season 4 of Big Mouth fixes some of the egregious missteps S3 made with representation, and is otherwise gross and funny as the previous three seasons

Watched The Sponge Bob Movie: Sponge on the Run and really liked it. It wasn't anything super special, basically sponge bob episode in movie form. At first I didn't care for the 3D but I got use to it. I hadn't seen anything about the movie so everything was a surprise to me including the 3D. Lots of heart, lots of friendship is magic. My little pony is going to sue sponge bob.

Hilda was so much fun. Looking forward to S2!

New Hilda is up! Squee!

Hilda S2 does NOT disappoint! Loving it.

Just getting around to seeing Harley Quinn, and it's broadly good, but I have two criticisms:

A couple more episodes in, and the quality of jokes have increased, while the cussin'-for-cussin's-sake has decreased. Good!

I also see how they're trying to handle Harley as protagonist with her "I'm a badguy, but I'm not a bad guy" thing.

Ho man. Just finished Hilda S2. What a GREAT final episode! There's SOOO much interesting magic going on in that world.

Spoiler:

Curse you, world-changing cliffhanger!!!!!

Likewise, just finished The Owl House S1. Also extremely good!

Spoiler:

So much got upended in that last episode! I have a feeling we're going to see a LOT more of the Boiling Isles and its history in the next season.

Speaking of which...it looks like Disenchantment S3 is coming in January. Can't wait!

Hilda Season 2 episode 10 is a good Christmas/Winter holiday episode. The episode is also self contained so if you want quick christmas type show you can skip to eat without worrying about watching the episodes before it.

I see Hilda then avert my eyes. I haven’t found time to watch the new season. My daughter watched it without me though. I’m looking forward to it.

I devoured season 1 of this recently, it's aces. Hooty is best door friend.

also....prediction...

Spoiler:

Calling it now, I bet the big evil emperor dude with the conspicuous face covering mask is human. Who else would be demanding such strict regulation and control of "magicals"

I don't know if you use pop sockets, but I ran across this today on Amazon and thought it was cute:

Spoiler:

Ooooooh....good prediction! I could definitely see that.

I'm anticipating that Luz's discovery of glyph magic will hold the key to restoring the natural balance (e.g. not partitioned into covens) of magic to everyone on the Boiling Isles as they re-discover the core of how magic works.

I'm also looking forward to more Luz & Amity cuteness!

Watched Soul and liked it. I'm not sure if kids will like it. I think think the theme speaks more to adults. I was expecting Casper the friendly ghost but got a movie about purpose or a reason to live. Very nice movie.

So much agreed. Wife and I loved it; kids seemed pleased but not wowed.
Ending discussion:

Spoiler:

My wife and I were discuss/arguing afterward whether the theme was (my wife) life is itself a purpose or (me) spark is different is than purpose. The difference being I thought they were setting up a slightly different ending than they gave.

Watched Transformers WFC: Earthrise in almost one go. I liked it and also liked the first season. Didn't think the ending was very clean. I was also surprised they called it Earhrise

Spoiler:

They were only on Earth for a few minutes. The toy line would make you think they landed on Earth i current times.

Interesting that at times Megatron and Prime at times seems to go off the deep end. I guess Prime still isn't the the great leader yet.

I am really enjoying the new Transformers series, I just wish there were more than 6 episodes per season. I am a major transformers fan, have well over 1,000 figures between first party and third party.

Spoiler:

I love that Prime is showing some serious faults/cracks in the perfect leader persona. He nearly beat Megatron to death with his bare hands. I loved how he refused to fully kill Megatron however until Megatron forgave him, which of course Megatron didn't do. I find it interesting that it seems like in the third chapter we will have both the Beast Wars characters right alongside the traditional characters. The original Beast Wars series was a completely different timeline with no ties that I can remember back to the original vehicle based characters.

Siege and Earthrise should have been one season all under the Siege name. I suspect the main reason for the split was to sell toys. I'm thinking a new box with the latest netflix title on it sells more toys than than a box with a unconnected name on it.

On a different note I just finished Kipo and liked the latest season.
