Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC, and Android

Wow that is a lot of good stuff in there.

The last few updates have been duds for me, but this one has several games I want check out. Doom Eternal and Haven will both be getting some attention from me, and DQ XI will probably take over my gaming time for a while.

Does the $1 for 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate work if you have the standard subscription? I have no use for the extra stuff Ultimate provides but that's a good deal.

Eyeballing a few games like Doom Eternal, Dragon Quest and Greedfall from the coming soon so I'll have to try those out.

Does Control have the next gen update yet?

I had been holding off buying it until the next gen enhancements were available.

They haven’t released the upgrade patch yet, and it’s supposed to only be for the Ultimate edition (which is 50% off for another day, digitally). So my guess is it won’t include the upgrade.

The timing seems a little weird. There were rumors/leaks that Control was going to appear on Gamepass last summer, and then it didn't.

I had assumed that Microsoft had put it on the shelf so that they could show off the next gen capabilities of the new consoles. Now, apparently, they're just putting the base, unenhanced game out there?

Yes, they are.

I'm glad to see Greedfall show up - I game I want to try, not buy.

I am still awaiting Final Fantasy XIII and it's sequels. FF X and X-2 would be nice as well. I'm guessing they may not make it out in 2020.

Me too, Sean sold me on it when he was on a CC and talked about it many months ago.... but didnt sold me on it at full price.... now I get for "free". What a great deal game pass continues to be.

Well I had just bought Control. So whoops. Keen to try a few other things there though.

It shouldn’t be considered a hidden gem but unfortunately a lot of people dismiss Titanfall 2 because the first game had a pointless campaign and didn’t live up to its goal of dethroning CoD multiplayer and Titanfall 2’s own multiplayer didn’t change that.

What many people missed is that Titanfall 2 has a really good campaign with more than a few awesome moments that make it a must play. The interaction with your Titan BT who turns out to be one of the best realized characters in recent gaming. The very well done movement system that makes you feel as impressive as the NPCs around you seem to think you are. The level in the factory where you climb through an assembly line of fabricated buildings. A level a little later in the game (no spoilers) that has you “moving” back and forth between two “areas”. Many more.

I originally played the campaign on PS4 slim at 1080p when it came out and it was great but now I’m replaying it on Xbox Series X in 4k with HDR and Dolby Atmos for Headphones and it’s a whole new experience.

It’s now on Game Pass thanks to the inclusion of EA Play. I highly encourage you to give it a try even if shooters aren’t your thing and you play on easy.

I'm not normally a fan of Call of Duty-style first-person shooter campaigns, but the campaign for Titanfall 2 is really good. The moveset is great, the gunplay is good, and the level design is great. The story is still very macho military hoorah, we-band-of-brothers sort of thing, but it's not as absurd or casually offensive as Call of Duty frequently is. It's definitely worth taking for a spin.

I was talking to some friends recently about how I was replaying it and their response was along the lines of “Titanfall was bad so why play 2”. After my shock subsided I found out they’d just assumed Titanfall 2 was the same as 1 with ok multiplayer and a throwaway campaign. Seems to be a common misconception.

I also appreciate that the campaign isn’t too long and it’s broken into really bite sized chunks so I don’t have to commit much time to each play session.

That One Level With The Special Ability You Get has got to be the most interesting and entertaining piece of single-player FPS campaign content, ever.

Hands down best level I've ever played in a shooter. That doesn't mean a whole lot because I'm not really a shooter guy, but still... it's tight.

Definitely not just you who feels this way. I think it’s a key point that you don’t have to be into shooters to appreciate how great Titanfall 2’s campaign is.

I compare it to some of the best moments from Half Life 2 and other classic campaign shooters that garner critical acclaim.

I would agree had I not played the Ash Tray Maze. Now it's #2.

Ash Tray Maze is third person, so there's no conflict!

That's fair.

SHOCK AND APPALLED
Titanfall was great. I played it for months, maybe years until 2 came out. Didn't have much of a campaign, but it was infinitely far from BAD.

It was GOOD

I’ve been playing Star Renegades. Kind of an odd game. The systems are sort of interesting. It’s mostly FF style battles, and there’s a weird nemesis system in there too. So far, this is the worst dialogue I’ve come across. The rest of it has been fine.

Edit
I’m kind of obsessed with this game. There is a lot more strategy involved with the battles once you finish the tutorial stuff. The battles are fairly challenging, though the strategy is a bit unrefined. It kind of lets you break the rules of your typical RPG game.

Call of the Sea came out last night. It's not exactly 'objectively' good and it definitely isn't what I wanted it to be (I wanted a 1930s version of the Outer Wilds). It's pretty unpolished and a little amateurish.

But, as a visual novel / walking sim, it's pretty decent. The overall quality of the experience so far has been not unlike the Edith Finch game.

I liked the original trailer for the hints of possible Lovecraftian mystery. Not sure I'd enjoy that kind of gameplay, though. I haven't tried one of that particular genre yet.

Thanks for the mini review. I was interested in it but I have a lot of games on the backlog so knowing I can avoid a game frees me up.

So yeah, Control’s a good game. Nice one, Remedy.

IGN gave it a 9. This sounds exactly like my jam: story based exploration with some Myst-like puzzles. I’m in. wish there were more games like this.

I'm pretty keen to check out Call of the Sea too. It seems right up my alley, and comparisons to Edith Finch definitely raise my interest.

Also noticed Monster Sanctuary on there. I've never heard of it before, but it's fairly high rated on Steam. Seems to be some sort of Pokemon metroidvania hybrid.

As usual, so many games, so little time.

I was fiddling with the random game suggestor and Drake Hollow popped up. Any thoughts about this? It looks like maybe a more competent My Time at Portia. I also get a sort of Don't Starve vibe?

I played a few minutes of it. It’s based on an animated series on Netflix called The Hollow. The game is kind of crap. The animated series is actually quite good though.

Ash. Tray. Maze.
