Users can use a USB cable to connect Nintendo Switch to their computers to copy the screenshots and videos saved under Album.

Is such a thing even possible?

Via the dock, I imagine.

I don't understand, you can plug a USB C cable into the bottom of your Switch.

Huh. So you can. I completely forgot it had a port down there. I never really examined how the dock works but it's sort of an "oh duh" moment once you take a look.

The patch notes explicitly say that it has to be a direct connection via a suitable cable. The dock evidently isn't supported.

Can’t use standard USB cable to connect the dock to a laptop?? #NintendoLogic

Dock uses old USB A, while the Switch itself uses USB C. While it seems silly to me that you can't use the dock, it may be more about speed as the throughput of USB C is vastly better than USB 20th Century.

They also likely chose this option since the Lite doesn't have a dock.

I just copied my entire album, just over 5GB, using the USB-A-to-C cable that I normally use to charge the Pro controller. It didn't take long.

Thanks for the heads up. This is a good update if only because I no longer have to launder screenshots through Facebook or Twitter. Nintendo's method of transferring directly to the phone is oddball, as Nintendo solutions often are, but it's better.

Isn't Microsoft doing the same thing with the new Xboxes? Just hand the media sharing off to the phone apps that are already good at that...

I mean that the way Nintendo is doing it is funky if you actually try it. What they do is create a hotspot with the Switch. Your phone is prompted to connect to that hotspot and then you're served the images through what appears to be a mini web server running on the Switch. It's very odd. The XBox (which I just started using), just copies them to the cloud and they're magically available on the XBox app.

Part of that might be that Microsoft is the only one of the three console platform holders to offer free cloud storage. Nintendo and Sony both charge for cloud storage via their multiplayer subscriptions, and the storage space is limited. Microsoft has unlimited storage for all users. (One of the perks of being part of one of the largest cloud services providers in the world.) Nintendo may have wanted a solution that all users could access. I can imagine the angst if this feature were exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online members.

I keep trying to adjust my Switch Parental controls on my app but I keep getting error code after error code. Is it a network problem or is it me?

Thanks for the comments.
I had forgotten about the onoine account stuff.
Can you please elaborate on that.

But given these 2 comments, I will pass for now

Basically if you want to play games you purchased through the eShop on more than 1 Switch console, only one of the consoles can play those games without an Internet connection. They have this whole process for making a console the primary console. Every other console is secondary. The secondary consoles have to have an Internet connection to launch games.

It probably doesn't matter now if you're home, but if you plan on taking your Switch Lite out of the house, then you'll need to make sure the other Switch is always at home or near a connection in order to launch games.

Let me see if I understand.

I just purchased the digital copy of HADES on my Switch (DH´s Switch) and if I buy a second Switch and let say I name it "Family Switch" i wont be able to play my Hades game there? or my Cuphead digital game? What about my digital copy of "smash brothers?

Are those games LOCKED TO SHACKLED to my 1st switch?

No. You can login to “Family Switch”, download the game and play it there just fine.

However, one of the two devices has to be online all the time to do a check with Nintendo’s licensing servers and confirm you have the right to play Hades. So either DH’s Switch or Family Switch will have to be online all the time to play Hades.

Secondly, some companies will allow someone to play their game on both switches at the same time, but some won’t allow this. I can’t recall if the licensing software boots someone out of the game or if the second concurrent user to fire up the game is just prevented from doing so.

I see..... well playing the same game as the same time.. I would be OKish if I CANT. Since you rightfully would need to copies of the game in the past for that ... But looking into the future... there might be a time not too far ahead where my won want to play lets say Dragon Quest 12 and I want to play Dragon quest 12 as well bot at the same time... it would be nice not to have to purchase 2 copies of the game. But Ill cross that bridge when I get there.

For the time being my main Switch (DH switch) is docked 99.9999% of the time so being online i not a problem.

It sounds like their setup would work for you, then. I think the most important detail is that in this setup one device effectively stops being portable. It at least has to be within earshot of WiFi. So if you left the house with your Switch you would have to tether to your phone to launch games. I did this for a while and it works. It just reduces portability of the non-primary devices.

Thanks for the info!!!!!

I think the home console gets priority. Maybe the owning user account does, if someone else is playing it on the home machine.

It's been a while since I tested it; my memory has gotten pretty fuzzy. All I remember for sure is my conclusion: "buy digital if we're getting 2 copies so we can play together; buy a cartridge if we just want to hand it off."

Thanks guys for the valuable feedback. I will see if i catch a good Switch bundle once they go live again.

I had taken a leap of faith and just prepaid Amazon for the Switch Animal Crossing bundle. It was slated to arrive on January 20. It got delivered today. Now I need to find a second one for my son.

For how much?

$299.99

I’m not paying some scalper’s premium. That just encourages them to keep being ass-hats.

I think I’m picking up another one from Walmart tomorrow morning. I’ll have to see...

Have you considered the bundle on offer in the trading post by Top_Shelf?

Well, these are Christmas gifts for my teenage kids, so I’m really pushing for new in box and 3 year warranty.

I’d recommend following Wario64 on Twitter and turning on notifications. I’d say twice a day he posts when Switches are in stock somewhere, it’s how I got both my next gen consoles.

Every time I've been out shopping lately, stores have had multiple Switch Lites in stock. If you're not wedded to the original form factor, that might be a way to go, as well.

I don’t know why this is shocking. For less than $50 I can get the unit replaced if something goes wrong.

Happened to see that a switch bundle with a year of online and a carrying case was in stock at Walmart for base price.

My spouse has strongly hinted at wanting to play the animal crossing game with her co-workers. Is there any downsides to just getting it digitally from the eshop vs physical?

Retailer warranties are generally crap. And nowadays a lot of them have deductibles you have to pay too.

Nintendo does 1 year completely free. And joycons forever now. And that's the only thing that will probably break anyway.

Digital is better I think. Don't have to switch cartridges and it's always there ready to play. Can get a (micro?) SD card to expand the internal storage for cheap and fit lots of games on there.

I have been VERY careful on how I spend money as of late. Covid had indeed hit hard my small business. But given the current logistics of my home, with 2 toddlers, pregnant wife, home office, and house chores I have little to no time to sit on a console. I have my vita and 3DS with me with plenty of unopened games. But I also itch to play the following on my own

1. Finish octopath traveler
2. Trails of Mana
3. HADES

My son is almost always playing the Switch and it says docked, that is why i AM STRONGLY CONISIDERING a second switch. I was eyeing the Fortenite bundle.. but i dont know or play fortnite at all and well the deal has passsed.
