Nintendo Switch Catch-All 2.0

I had forgotten about the onoine account stuff.
Can you please elaborate on that.

But given these 2 comments, I will pass for now

Basically if you want to play games you purchased through the eShop on more than 1 Switch console, only one of the consoles can play those games without an Internet connection. They have this whole process for making a console the primary console. Every other console is secondary. The secondary consoles have to have an Internet connection to launch games.

It probably doesn't matter now if you're home, but if you plan on taking your Switch Lite out of the house, then you'll need to make sure the other Switch is always at home or near a connection in order to launch games.

I had a Lite for a few months earlier this year and sold it on, just didn't need a 2nd system any more.

There were a few limitations with using games purchased online, namely the Switch that isn't set as primary needs to be online if you want to play those games. And you can't play the same game at the same time, but I got around this in Animal Crossing when my wife or son was already playing on another system by starting the game, quickly turning on flight mode, then turning flight mode off once it was fully booted. If you're playing physical copies though that's not an issue.

If I was to buy a 2nd Switch again I'd spend the bit extra and get the big one. Slightly bigger screen when going portable is the main reason.

Perhaps a pro controller + Fixture S1 might materialize in my life sooner rather than later.

"Sooner" has just arrived.

Ah, this is nice! Feels good sitting in a chair and feels good lying in bed.

I especially like having the screen positioned above the bumper buttons, just like focusing on the top screen of a 3DS.

As @Spikeout mentioned, having two points of pivot and plenty of choice regarding where the console is slotted into the frame offers a wealth of adjustment.

The hole in the arm of the S1 is a nice touch; it's just big enough to accommodate the power plug and allows for charging the console. The cable might interfere a bit with the r-stick, but a right-angle adapter helps a lot.

On the downside, the clamp, by necessity, is really tight and the front prongs have caused some cosmetic damage to the pro controller. I can't tell if they're scuffs or perhaps just a bit of strain marks to the clear plastic. I don't plan on removing the clamp again, so no worries here.

The clamp also adds a bit of bumpy bulk to the bottom of the pro controller, again out of necessity. This may or may not affect the way you grasp the controller, e.g., you might feel a touch of discomfort on your middle fingers.

Other than these quibbles, the Fixture S1 is an impressive piece of solid engineering.

Overall the Fixture S1 has made handheld gaming on my Switch a delight.

Yeah, doesn't take long at all to feel the difference; so nice!

Any idea how it works with an 8bitdo controller?

I have an 8bitdo Sn30 Pro+ and it's too small for the Fixture S1.

Great to hear your enjoying your Fixture S1 Ted, your right about the clamp it is fairly tight but it does mean that the Pro Controller is well secured.

I've got my Switch in work with me tonight, Hades will get a good few runs!

I feel like chiming in on the lite and a very similar use case. Last Christmas we got a switch for the family and I wanted to be able to take it to work for my lunch. So I opted for a lite as it is smaller and while I am out I never need to dock out of the house. I love my lite, It is small, lite, one piece construction, and cheaper. As a note the lite has a d-pad, not buttons like Joycons. I figured the no docking was fine as we only one TV. Also my kids are filthy.

Most things work fine with moving back and forth as I have Switch Online. Not as smooth as Steam cloud sync, but worked, except for Pokemon and animal crossing.

I knowing we would have multiple switches have gone Physical where possible. My lite is "primary" console given the other switch lives in the house and attached to the TV most times it is fine. I also tend to be away from wifi with my lite so it usually doesn't kick the kids off the other.

Fixture is now $10 off on Amazon, at $25.

Really tempting, even though I like my Horis. Just for the few games that need motion even.

Thanks for the heads-up, ordered one. Weird that it's not available in any of the Amazon euroshops. Now I'm ready for Silksong and MH: Rise.

I’m buying two Nintendo Switches for my two teens for Christmas.

Question:
Will I need to buy two copies of Animal Crossing for the two of them to do multiplayer together or can they play on two different Switches at the same time while only buying one copy of the game?

How does this apply to other Switch games in regards to both single player and multiplayer? For instance, can they both play the same single player game at the same time while only buying one copy?

It seems like this can be a tricky issue, so feel free to answer with a link to a site that explains it well.

I think in this scenario the safest thing to do is get them each a physical copy of the game and their own Nintendo Online account (off your family account).

Technically 2 people can share an island, but one player always “owns” the island and can kick the other person out / has more power to change things.

To say nothing of the complications of trying to share a game from the same online account.

Family accounts were on sale this week at Target for $20 instead of the usual $35. Not sure if they still are, but you should get one.

Switch is sold out until January it seems. I’m so confused. The price of entry to be a Nintendo customer just doesn’t seem worth the effort. I’m talking about the inconvenience rather than the monetary cost.

Just a few weeks ago there were multiple Animal Crossing special edition consoles just sitting in Target when I had to run in for baby gas drops on emergency.

How could they be out of regular systems?

All the console manufacturers are having trouble getting products on shelves right now. I'm not sure where you got the idea that the Switch was sold out until January specifically, but they're in the same boat as the new Xbox, new Playstation, and new fancy shmancy video cards. (Perhaps literally in the same boat.) It seems a bit extreme to make this a problem specific to Nintendo. It's not like their stuff is notoriously hard to find in non-pandemic years.

It’s true that I haven’t tried to buy any video game hardware in 2020. Unless you count the laptop I bought a few weeks ago. I wasn’t even aware that Nintendo hardware was generally hard to get your hands on. While brand new fancy consoles tend to be difficult to procure, I’m surprised that a several year old game system is sold out.

Amazon is selling the Switch but listing it as available in January. Physical stores are currently completely sold out and I’m just assuming that it’s the same case with them.

Amazon is weird. I bought a game there today on BF special, and it said it would arrive Dec 24.

An hour later they emailed me it would be here between Dec 6-11.

Around here, the Xbox One S and the PS4 Pro were absent from shelves until the last month or so. The Xbox One X got discontinued in the spring and vanished.

Most video game consoles have been sold out, including used ones, this whole year. That said, a quick look ok Target’s website showed me some locally in stock. OG Switch and Lite.

At the start of the pandemic I knew people who paid $500 for a used PS4, just to find *a* console (any console) for their kids.

Still available online https://www.target.com/p/nintendo-sw...

Edit: nvm, apparently sold out

Here’s a rundown on game sharing, Rawk.

Things get trickier with Animal Crossing, though.

To summarize, the message is saying that you can only play a digital copy of a game on one system at a time. Now, that’s not accurate. I’ve played the game on both systems simultaneously without issue. But Nintendo is drawing a hard line at permitting you from using one copy to have two people play together from two system on one island …. I know, it’s confusing.

This likely applies to online play as well, but that feature isn’t available until a day-one patch.

(Cross-posting from the game deals thread.)

10% discount on Nintendo eShop cards at Amazon, and apparently at Best Buy too.

USA, but perhaps other regions too.

Walmart has them for shipping at the moment, with MK8 and some kinda download code:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Nintendo-...

Says delivery by 12/16

I might recommend you follow Wario64 on Twitter and turn on notifications for him.

Amazon JP has the 2 main variations, no chance of a PS5 or Xbox though.

The Tegra X1 is manufactured by TSMC, so yes, the Switch's silicon production is presumably battling for TSMC capacity with the new console and PC AMD chips as well as Apple Silicon, which seems to have pushed to the front of the line.

Ah. Interesting.

HUGE Switch update, including remapping controls.

A new Copy to a Computer via USB Connection feature was added under System Settings > Data Management > Manage Screenshots and Videos.

Users can use a USB cable to connect Nintendo Switch to their computers to copy the screenshots and videos saved under Album.

Is such a thing even possible?

Download priority. My goodness, that's a lot of stuff.

Folders? No? Sad panda face.

Thanks for the heads up. This is a good update if only because I no longer have to launder screenshots through Facebook or Twitter. Nintendo's method of transferring directly to the phone is oddball, as Nintendo solutions often are, but it's better.

Via the dock, I imagine.
