The itemization on this expansion is weird. Normally when a new expansion drops all my gear gets replaced within the first hour or so, but I’m like halfway through Bastion and both quest rewards and random drops seem to consistently be 10-30 ilevels below what I’ve been wearing for like a year now, and I was pretty casual last expansion.

Yeah, they resisted item inflation this time around. You probably won’t see many upgrades until after Bastion

i replaced my highest ilevel piece of (formerly) high corruption gear an ardenwyld today.

I am wondering when I will be replacing my heart of azeroth (134 I believe)
I am in ardenweald and I am finally getting 122-136 gear. (at level 56.5)
So it will be coming soon and mark the end of the pre level squish era

The new dungeons have been fun and a refreshing new experience. Some of the new boss mechanics have been a pleasure to encounter and learn.

I've only had a chance to try the L51 dungeon, but I agree.

I really wish Dungeon Finder would let me queue up for the dungeons which I've apparently exceeded some limit (level? ilvl?). I have a quest that takes me back into the L51 dungeon - there's no way for me to get in there, aside from manually forming a party (or walking in solo and getting slaughtered, presumably)?

I think once you hit 60 you can do dungeon quests in Heroic mode. That's how it was in Legion.

You can't do them in Mythic because of the timer, but Heroic should work. At least that's how it worked in Legion and BFA.

Dr Stitches was fun, and then 'fun', but then fun again.

Yeah, but I don't necessarily want to do the quests in Heroic mode. I feel like there's more pressure on me to not f up while in a Heroic dungeon - an (unreasonable) expectation that I should already know the layout and how all the boss fights work, from running it in Normal mode.

You need to have ilvl 155 to do heroic dungeons. Regular dungeons drop 158 gear. I was lucky enough to get a world drop ilvl 190 piece but I sold it on the AH so I can buy a token and free month of service

My problem is not "I can't get into the Heroic dungeons". My complaint is "I would like to queue up for the earlier Normal dungeons, but Dungeon Finder literally will not let me."

Oops, reading fail early in the morning. My apologies. I entirely agree that going back to the older dungeon should be easier.

The smooth launch didnt last. Lag is crazy on my server today. Close to unplyable.

Had some serious analysis paralysis for choosing my covenant today. Guess I should have spent some time looking at them pre-launch.
Picked Night-Fae. Their first covenant quest was quite great at least.

HA! I just hit L60 and now I'm completely ineligible for EVERY dungeon (normal and heroic), due to one or more of the following:
* character level too high
* iLevel too low
* missing a prerequisite quest

I can't even queue up for a random dungeon. "Random Dungeon" literally doesn't even exist in the drop-down box. I know this is nothing new and it probably will only affect me for a few days, but it's a bit irksome.

Argghh, level gated again, time to try to roam around Ardenweald and pick up 150k experience.

Are you like, going out of your way to avoid doing any side quests? I thought I was skipping a lot of stuff and I ended up only having to pause for the last ~15% before level 60.

Pretty much. If I’m trying to save the world, I don’t have time to fetch a bunch of geegaws for some nobodies

Yeah but fetching those geegaws helps save the world too, just in a different way.

I just started Ardenweald and I’m level 58, not actively seeking out content but doing whatever I come across. I can’t imagine how much you must be skipping to be underleveled, I feel like I’ve been skipping a lot of stuff. There are still multiple uncovered areas in the previous two zones.

Clumber wrote:

I largely feel the same way, but there's still plenty of stuff I could spend half a minute doing while I'm on my way to the next main event. And the critical path has enough "help out in general so I have time to help you" activities that doing a few side quests doesn't feel out of place.

ruhk wrote:

Each zone has a few areas where the mobs are only level 60 and don't scale down. The leveling path doesn't tend to take you to those places.

What point does Threads of Fate skip you to? I've heard something about it skipping the first chapter of the max-level Covenant quests... does that mean a ToF character that goes Night Fae would miss the cool stage play? Is there anything cool you miss in the other covenants' intros?

i loved that stage play. obviously my hunter had to pick Night Fae after how dusty it got in the room at the end of the Ardenweald campeign.

The stage play was fantastic. It'd be a darned shame if a Threads of Fate player missed out on seeing that.

Can we talk for a bit about Torghast? I've done a couple of runs through, and I think I really like it. My latest run I got the Remote Sheep Detonator upgrade, and I've decided that it's just the greatest thing ever, and it'll absolutely be in all of my future runs, if I'm presented with the option. I remember Polymorph being an incredibly necessary spell for Molten Core (and Blackwing Lair?) runs, and basically nothing since - with this upgrade, it comes back with a BANG.

Sheep a dude, wait 15-20 seconds, then ping it with an instant spell (or sheep some other dude), and it detonates for enough damage to kill everything in the group, instantly. It was effective even for the miniboss staircase guardians who had ~35k HP - one hit kills after waiting 45-50 seconds.

I am really enjoying Targhast. Hunters have an ability called Soulfire Embers. It makes it so that if you drop a tar trap, and then shoot a flare over top of the tar trap (two otherwise not super useful abilities) it explodes and catches up to 5 enemies in the tar trap on fire.

This combo is also a Legendary you can craft Soulforge Embers (Helm or shoulders). It rates highly for BM and Surv DPS but not as much for MM.

ooh thats something to look forward to. it's certainly fun inside the tower.

I like how the Torghast powers stack with themselves. There's one that makes the Monk's filler Chi spender do more damage and hit 2 extra targets. At the end of one run it was cleaving 10k damage onto 7 targets and I just dropped every other spender out of my rotation.

I asked my Threads of Fate question somewhere else and got a good answer. It turns out it gives you the option to skip the covenant intro if you want, but you don't have to. So you don't have to miss the play, but you can skip it if you've seen it already.
