2020 NBA Catch-All: Offseason

This sucks. I was really looking forward to seeing Golden State have a go this year.

The repeating line about the clipboard just makes it feel worse.

Yeah... I'm gonna memory-hole that since you were too nice to quote it.

Also, Good thing I'm already tagged.

Wild and crazy opening to free agency.

Clippers, WYD.

Lakers, good grief, you already won.

The Lakers swapping Howard for Harrell is a huge upgrade. And Schroeder. Man alive. This Clippers thing may not work.

I figured the Hornets were going all-in on a youth movement after nabbing Lamelo, but they waived their ineffective, overpaid wing (Batum) to give $30m/year to another overpaid, inefficient wing (Hayward). /sigh

I need to hear the motivation behind this.

At least Hayward can be an All-Star while that was never going to be the case with Batum.

Fan of the FvV contract. Mostly because he’s the heir to Lowry and a big part of next year’s pitch.

Ibaka signs with Clippers, Gasol signs with Lakers.

Aron Baynes signs with Toronto.

Lakers trying to seal up the title in November.

I loved Ibaka and Gasol but they really are a package deal. Nurse rarely ever had them on the court at the same time and regularly switched them for each other. Amazing attitudes, team players, and the Raptors are worse without them. Baynes is a more complete singular player but not as good as their combined strengths.

Raptors are waiting on Giannis before they take the next step and the upcoming season is going to feature a lot of evaluation. Boucher will get regular minutes as the backup center.

There are still 5 spots left in the Fantasy Basketball league I'm running! All are welcome, it's free to play.

Is this the time he you asked us about earlier or a different one?

This is the one I asked about earlier here. The same one.

Nevermind. I figured out how I could delete a team. I'm in.

Woot woot

quick update: there are 3 spots remaining in the GWJ Fantasy BBall league, with one possibly spoken for. So if you're in but haven't signed up yet, I would encourage you to do so soon.

Damn, I would love to give it a shot, but I work Saturdays. Maybe next year.

Laarrs, i didn't even think of people who have to work on Sat when i picked the draft date, I'm sorry!

I could see if we could switch it?

Thanks, but that would probably be a logistical nightmare for you. No worries.

Westbrook and Wall are still in place, but overall I think this is true.

Talk about good timing. lol

Sources: Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards agree to Russell Westbrook-John Wall deal

I thought your previous post was a wry comment on that already!

The only true albatross contracts in the NBA are for high end role players that become unplayable. Deng, Noah, and Batum come to mind. Superstars are always movable.

I wish I was that clever. Just unlucky.

The Twitter commentary is pretty great right now.

I just don’t understand the trade for either team. Neither of those players fit with the teams they are going to, especially Wall and Harden.

Both players are upset and wanted out. Washington made significant payroll commitments this offseason , know that Westbrook can play, and their head coach is his old head coach. Rockets want to shake things up, Wall's injuries and recovery time mean that Harden is comfortably in-charge while he gets up to speed, and they view the 1st rounder as very valuable trade chip since they don't have any of their own.

I like it for Washington since it means swapping out a guy who doesn't want to be there anymore with significant injuries for another guy where you know what you're getting and you know he likes the coach. The Rockets are inheriting A LOT of risk.

The speculation out there is that for the Rockets this is the first move of a rebuild, and signals that Harden will be traded by the end of the season. They got a very movable and pretty valuable trade asset in Christian Wood also, if they’re tearing it all down.

I think for the Wizards it’s clear that Wall is now in Gilbert Arenas-ville and they took the only available opportunity to get off him. Bonus that their ceiling is probably a 5-seed in the east now.

If you have someone to co-manage the team with you, you can always have two managers for one account, if they were free to handle the draft while you're at work? Just a thought, no worries.

James Harden sucks, man. His game is an abomination. It's so boring and frustrating to watch. The Rockets spent almost a decade doing everything he wanted and building the team to cater to him and here at the end he pulls this?

https://sports.yahoo.com/james-harde...

His actions are not only going to damage the Rockets, but he's jeopardizing the season and future leverage of other players if this becomes the catalyst for owners to crack down on the player empowerment era.

Based on his behavior over the years, my view is he is basically a petulant man-child. This reinforces it. The only reason he isn't called out more often is because he isn't an outgoing personality and hardly says anything to the media.
