Playstation 5 Catch-All

The PS5 that's in my cart right now says "Order soon, only 3 left!". I've gone through the end of the purchase process about 10 times now, and each time it says that it's out of stock, and each time I get kicked back to my cart that says the above "only 3 left" message. Grr.

i had that, it let me get all the way to confirm order before kicking it back out for out of stock, now it;'s showing OOS in my cart too

Yeah, me too, finally.

I doubt that bots have much to do with the issues right now. There's overwhelming demand for very limited product. When you have God knows how many people F5ing the sh*t out of every site every time they get a couple dozen units in stock, there are going to be a lot of issues, bots or not.

The real winner here is Wario64 who is probably making bank from affiliate links from all the people now following him hoping for stock alerts.

You gotta think at some point the amount of stock being gobbled up by bots will hit a point where they stop buying. I can’t see more than the hungriest of consumers buying one of these at double price and they’ll have to start liquidating. At that point the average person should be able to jump through the online shop hoops, right? I guess the question is.....when will that point come? With 2 or 3 drops per week it shouldn’t last too much longer than Christmas I’m guessing. Hopefully.

I mean, I want to play Demon’s Souls, but not at 1 penny over retail for the whole experience.

This also assumes that all bots are being used by scalpers. At this point I’d use a bot to buy one and just keep it myself.

I admit I thought about checking GitHub, or other sites for bot software. It would actually be nice to set it to let it do the work but I would hate to trust any of that software not to mine my information.

I am at least enjoying the complaining and jokes people are making

Well, it now says "PS5 Consoles are limited and not guaranteed" instead of "PS5 Consoles are out of stock". I'm not sure if they just changed the message or is this actually a glimmer of hope.

PS Direct queue is up

ARGH! I was even checking PS Direct from 3:30 (ET) until about 20 minutes before that, wondering if they'd have something after the Walmart fiasco.

Edit: PS5s are out of stock for the day.

Message last updated: 1:49 PM

Well after sitting in the PS Direct queue for an hour or so

PS5 consoles are out of stock for the day.

I guess it was less work than the Walmart refresh a lot system but it yields the same results.

Same, same. I wasn't sure where to look and how to find one that I could trust with my credit card at Walmart.

Made another mild attempt to buy a PS5 in which I discovered Sony's marketing strategy;

I received my copies of Demons Souls & Miles Morales on Wednesday so now it's just the delayed wait for the console to be delivered. Its supposed to be delivered on Saturday, coming from very.co.uk. I remember 7 years ago my PS4 was delivered one day late from Toys R Us, so it goes without saying that in 7 years time my PS6 will be delivered 3 days late from another major retailer

I'm really looking forward to Astro's Playroom, the integration of the Dual Sense will be really interesting to feel through the haptics. It would be great if Team ASOBI were working on a fully fledged Astro Bot Rescue Mission sequel atm, even if it didn't have VR it would be fantastic.

Has anyone played Miles Morales on PS4? Does it still take like 18 secs to load out of a gang hideout back into the city? I seen the PS5 clip of Miles busting through the vent & straight out into the city without any loading screen. I'm wondering if this is consistent throughout, going from interiors to the skylines of New York in an instant.

I preferred Child World over Toys "R" Us when I was a kid, because it looked like I was walking into a castle.

Edit: Also, TRU still exists...

TRU all closed 2 years ago

it's still around, hundreds of stores worldwide but only two in the US.

You may also enjoy Demon's Souls for the same reason (I don't have it, so I'm just going from this video) -

I just did three of those last night - you enter them and exit them by going through a vent with no load time whatsoever; there's nothing to indicate that they're loading a new level and clearing the old one out of memory.

Is Sony's strategy confirmed that NO units will be at retail this holiday season? While I get the initial few weeks (which I guess is where we are now), limited to online, at some point shouldn't we be able to try to go to stores to find them in 2020?

I guess I'm bellyaching because living in a metropolitan area, I have like 20 targets, 5 costcos, and 8 bestbuys within a 30 mile radius of me and in launches past I would literally just drive around looking for a console. Now I'm stuck in a clicking war against bots and other people, and this sort of advantage of having so many retailers is basically nil. Is inventory at these stores really on a per-location basis (then I suppose my proximity to so many is an advantage)? If this is online only that makes no sense for a big retailer to distribute to a local store only to have to ship it out again, so I assume 95% of whatever stock they have is centralized.

At least Target was doing in store pickup for the first orders, but you had to buy online for pickup.

Gamestop is supposed to have at least 2 per store on Black Friday morning when they open. That seems to be the only confirmed in store buying opportunity this year.

Looks like Walmart and Best Buy are doing online shipping only.

How do we feel about two threads maybe? A "PS5 availability" thread and an "actually talking about the PS5 console" thread?

A whole thread for just 3 people talking about the actual console is probably overkill

Yeah the stock thing will die down by the time the post-launch games release and things will even out naturally.

Even the accessories are hard to get, it took me a week to track down the official charging station, and had 0 luck getting the new headset.

I really like the Pulse 3D headset. Sound quality isn't as good as an expensive set, obviously, but it's more than sufficient. The positional audio is pretty rad so far. Good luck finding one, it's worth it.

Stele wrote:

Given how many games have been pushed into 2021, "post-launch games" is still a pretty big window. And I wouldn't expect supplies of the PS5 to start opening up until demand dies down after the holidays; Sony doesn't have a stockpile lying around that they didn't decide to make available out of sheer orneriness, and COVID's continuing to play havoc with supply chains worldwide. If we make a dedicated availability thread, it will be far more active, but the actual PS5 thread won't be drowned in its content.

(double checks) Hmm, actually looking over the last 4 pages the post ratio of availability vs. PS5 content has been 55:37, which is actually less skewed than I thought (posts that had both I threw in the "PS5 content" bin). But it definitely feels like most of the thread is about availability.

I don't think there are any other games coming out this year that I plan to pick up. I'll probably get AC: Valhalla at some point, but the remainder of the launch library and Christmas window stuff doesn't hold a lot of allure.

Ratchet and Clank is probably my next big target.

I'll potentially attempt a playthrough of Horizon: ZD on the PS5, since I own that digitally.

I mean, availability is kinda the big story around both of these consoles right now.
