Cyberpunk Catch-All

Eh don’t worry. It’ll probably move again before December rolls around anyway.

I mean, Bloodlines 2 was like, look, we're delaying, and maybe we could get it out in the same "season" but... SEE YOU NEXT YEAR! :D

They also fired the narrative guy from the original so there's more problems going on there than technical delays.

I am upset but I am not this upset. People are just the worst.

I think he means "real" gameplay, not practiced and segmented. Like, an actual player wandering around in the city and seeing what it looks and feels like. Everything they've shown, which is quite a lot, is polished and practiced.

That is exactly what I mean.

Pathetic..gotta love anonymity..

I feel bad for bighoppa.

Me, I don't care about the delay, I can wait. Not everyone is so lucky.

Edit: On second thought, poor taste. A simple Thanks, Garion should suffice.

At this point I want this game to be terrible, with the way the developer has handled the release and the rampant fanboism surrounding it.

Speaking as someone whose week off to move had coincided with the last release date, my response is:

Oh! That sucks. Well, I got plenty of other stuff to play (Hellblade, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Control, Mass Effect: Andromeda) and I hope they don't grind the Devs into dust. Lemme know when it's ready.

At this point, they could have released the game any time between the original release date and the end of next year and there will still be a vociferous and vocal part of the "fandom" that'll be so unhappy (be it "This game is not ready / been delayed too long / doesn't meet ridiculous expectations") that they just won't be able to please everyone, regardless of what they do. I suspect CD Projekt Red are fully aware of that and probably don't care. The depressing normalisation of people going straight to death threats is one that everyone needs to stop and take a long hard look at and stop enabling. There is a level of gamer entitlement associated with this game now that is getting really uncomfortable.

Holy crap people need to get over themselves. It's a computer game, not a cure for a global pandemic. Given everything that has happened this year - whether you like it or not - it's a pretty damn good reason as to why a game you want to play might a lot not have met it's original release date. Or an extended one.

Just to be clear this is not comment is not directed at anyone posting here or the GWJ community at large, but the general background hysteria associated with Cyberpunk 2077. Yes I want to play it too but right now it's not the end of the world that I can't. It shouldn't be anyone else's either.

There’s a saying...something about dogs and fleas?

Sadly, the sentence below works just as well for a vaccine for a global pandemic

As for Cyberpunk, I dont care how long it is delayed. Not exactly a lack of games. I do wish WoW Shadowlands and Cyberpunk would not release at the same time though Kinda seems like they might.

Ooh, I hope you're wrong about the 'no fun' part. Bugs can be fixed, but it's awful hard to patch your way from a bad game to a good or great one.

It only took Hello Games about 3 years!

I was specifically thinking of No Man's Sky, which is why I didn't use "impossible".

Ooh, and then on this page:

Fer chrissake, people, you think killing staff at CDPR is going to make the game come out faster?

I mean, totally ignoring the 'killing people because they're making a game too slowly' part. Just glossing right past that fundamental stupidity, I'm looking at the second level of dumb underneath.

Malor wrote:

Yes, No Man's Sky came to my mind too.

Reaching further back, I also thought about Spore. I should say that I never played the game, but I remember the pre-launch hype and I remember the post-launch reviews suggesting that it didn't deliver. Specifically, that it attempted - but didn't quite manage to - straddle the science-/god-/RTS-game genres.

Oh man, it doesn't feel like any modern game has nearly the level of hype that Spore had back in the day.

The best I can say for it is that one of my kids was obsessed with it in his pre-school and early primary school years.

Spore definitely feels like a precursor to the No Man's Sky hype much moreso than Cyberpunk. It wasn't going to be just another good video game (as intense as the Cyberpunk hype is, I don't get the sense most people expect it to be something other than a very good version of the stuff that CDPR does, just cyberpunk-themed and first person). Spore (and similarly NMS) was going to be something that made us re-think what was possible in games. My recollection of Spore hype was that it was a lot more about the technical details of GDC talks than about what how fun it would be to play the game. Finally installing that game when it came out was pretty profoundly disappointing.

Despite having a lot of game features that look like fun to play (and Keanu Reeves!) Cyberpunk 2077 will be a no from me.

The thing that folks love most about GWJ is The Week Ahead the community -- it has been an oasis in a desert of gamer toxicity. This community is rare and precious, it's the reason why so many stick around for so long, and it needs to be preserved. Folks within our community have stated their discomfort with CDPR's continual anti-trans behaviour (not to mention work practices). I would feel sh*tty if, after hearing all that, regardless, I played it and jumped into the "OMGZ so many graphics, 10/10" discourse when the game finally comes out. Instead, I'll pass.

I haven't even met anyone on here IRL, but GWJ is a beautiful thing -- hell, they gave me a writing gig -- and I would rather respect the people here than play a game that alienates key members of the community.

Just got around to watching episode 4 of Night City Wire. I am digging how they have everything from mad max style cars to futuristic flying cars.

Cyberpunk 2077 running on the Xbox One X and Series X

I was less impressed with this one than other Night City's. I have high expectations for this game so I hope it doesn't disappoint.

They have a full Night City Wire coming this Thursday.

Seems like a lot of observers are noting a massive decrease in the ambient pedestrians.

At this point, I feel like there's good chance that it ends up being both an excellent game and a total trainwreck, especially on last gen systems.

And, I'm feeling torn because I want to play it now - especially before it gets memed and spoiled to hell - and I want to wait for the post-launch next-gen enhancements.

Keanu has remarkably bad teeth for a big star. Not sure why he hasn't had some work done.

Well it's not like he's a snappy dresser who known for his image, is it?

If anything, it's entirely in-line with his rejection of the rest of the typical trappings of Hollywood.

The internet isn't going to like this, but boy oh boy does Keanu sound wooden in the newest gameplay that has been released. And it's Keanu Reeves! I expected the delivery to be very wooden and unemotional! This sounds like second day local theater class, though. Ha. I'm fine with it, but hopefully he doesn't get the "Dinklage Treatment" when this goes full release.

They did a lot of motion capture of him. I can't imagine them dumping all that.

Oh I just mean the gaming internet turning on him. Not him being replaced. That would never happen. Honestly, I didn’t mind the Peter Dinklage robot in Destiny. He was a robot. He was supposed to sound that way. Haha.
