WoW: Dragonflight

I just watched a video that said that going into SL with GS 50 is possible as both a main and an alt. They claim that better gear score more effects speed than ability to tackle content. One of the points was that during the intro quest you have NPC helpers and a summons on a longish cooldown for more helpers.

That being said, taking on Nathanos is so quick that it is definitely worth the IL 110 weapon quest reward.

I am also interested in seeing if you can still level or do world quests in BFA to get experience and SL quality gear past level 50. I know azerite gear won't work in SL but will it still work and drop in BFA post level 50?

10 more days!!!!

I suspect the BFA zones will work in SL like the Legion zones did in BFA: You'll be able to pick up a little (very little) XP post lvl 50. The gear will still drop, but it'll be vendor trash. Note that you can sell it for gold now and don't have to scrap it unless you want to. (Azerite gear didn't have a vendor price since the pre-patch.)

WQs should survive, too, plus the emissary quests. You'll be able to grind out rep for reasons (transmogs? recipes? mounts?), but I figure they'll bust the gold from the emissary bags from 4K to something much less.

Azerite hasn't been removed from the game yet. I guess they'll take it out in two weeks?

So I have hit 50. 15 levels in a couple days. I feel like that is pretty quick. Certainly helped to have the anniversary bonus. Still struggling to figure out where I am going/what to do. Haven't tried any dungeons since I have been back but its been fun. They added pet battles? When did that happen? Is this wowkemon or something? Do people actually try to battle each others pets?

They added those a couple of expansions ago, I want to say Pandaria but could be misremembering. They can be used for pvp battles but I'm not sure how popular that is in practice; there's also world quests, challenge dungeons and achievements if that's your bag. I think a lot of people just collect them for the sake of collecting them.

I finally hit 50 with my lightforged pally. Took 20 hours with a lot of time wasted going back and forth on non optimal paths and quest clusters. I'd say I could easily cut it down to 17. And if I wanted to do war mode, I could knock it down by as much as another 25%.
I also gimped myself holding on to random heirloom pieces that were very underleveled. One piece here of there doesn't matter but 3 or more pieces impacts killing speed dramatically.

At 47 I switched from ret to prot because I liked jumping into packs and whittling them down plus I like consecration and it didn't feel useful in single target unless it was an elite. Oh and being able to take on elites solo is necessarily efficient, but it is a nice change of pace and empowering.

Another bonus is I completely forgot about heritage armor so that was a nice perk upon hitting 50. Lightforged is not unique or hard to get without heritage, but it fits nicely for a pally.

I think the plan is to make the Azerite effects turn off in Shadowlands, since they require a connection to Azeroth.

The Legion legendary items turned off at level 105 in BFA, but that wasn't explained in the lore.

For any of you wondering about the Icecrown campaign, the second set of dailies opened today. You've got to do a short quest chain first.

Also, the IC rares are popping every 10 minutes instead of every 20.

That's a long way of saying that if you haven't started the pre-patch events you have plenty of time to grind out an entire transmog set.

No sign of the zombie invasion yet. I'm assuming that starts Tuesday.

PS: Make sure you do the Nathanos Blightcaller quest. It's an i115 weapon there for the taking.

I could've sworn I saw a zombie in the Stormwind Mage Portal tower tonight, when I was dutifully logging onto my alt.

Also, I’ve now unlocked Dark Iron Dwarves, Mechagnomes, and Kul Tirans. Any hints on where I need to start for the Lightforged Draenei and Void Elves?

For some reason Stormwind is now a PVP zone. You get flagged as soon as you enter the city. No idea wtf is going on there.

Has anyone done that quest chain? I'm stuck on "Secrets in Shadows" - I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do inside Mordrethar.

I think you're right that the zombie invasion has started. I assumed it would hit Boralus. I haven't ventured into SW or IF yet.

Go back to the hut in northern SW where you got the quest to do the Dark Irons, etc. The same questgiver gives the quests for all the Allied races. If he's not showing anything, Wowhead says you have to complete the Argus storyline (ie the You Are Now Prepared achievement) to unlock both.

Must be the zombie invasion. Dunno why it trips the PvP flag, tho. (Which reminds me - I brought my rogue through SW to finish the Icecrown storyline and he was flagged. Didn't see zombies, though. Guess Genn & Taelia and the rest scared them away.)

You got the robes and were able to put them on outside the chamber (via special action bar), right? Wearing your costume, go alllllllll the way to the back of the room. There's an altar there, and Herald Dalora is standing in front of it. Come close enough, and another special action bar will pop up. Hit it, you'll kneel, and then listen to the dialogue. You'll turn in the quest there, and pick up a folo-up right away.

Yeah, I need to complete the Argus storyline. And I need to complete "Unite the Isles" before I can even start that - so I presumably need to complete (or at least significantly progress) the story in one of the 5 isle-factions?

It's looking pretty unlikely that I'll get this done before SL hits. But hey, I've got a day off from work tomorrow - maybe I'll try to power through.

Yeah, it shouldn't take you more than a day with the faction reqs removed. Flight is unlocked too which will make it tons easier.

Good point. I'll give it a shot. Not that I have any real desire to roll up an alt with any of these new races, but it's more the thought of still having something locked off. And yes, I've got my "Alliance-only" blinders on right now.

Apologies to everyone for all of the BFA (and earlier) spam I've been putting into this otherwise pristine and forward-looking Shadowlands thread.

Well I am still stuck on Z trolls, KTs, and mechaGs which I have reasoned that I won't unlock until after SL and probably cap out at 60.

I am interested in the Z trolls and KTs but the mechaGs oddly don't do anything for me. The only thing holding me back are the cluster effed and obtuse quest reqs for the unlock. I'd wager that level 60 + whatever reasonable amount of SL gear grind will make them far easier and more than likely I'll be able to solo the dungeon reqs. (I hope)

edit: I am level 46 on my vulpera hunter. Hunters are beasts but for some reason it is taking me nearly an hour per level in the 40's.

If it's built like the pre-Wrath zombie event, there's actually a 3rd Scourge faction in addition to Horde and Alliance. PvP flagging could be related to that, either to facilitate something with the event or because it's poking those systems and a bug got in.

I played with zombies a bit last night. It is very similar to the pre-wrath event, except it's far less infective, and it doesn't transform NPCs or mobs which means it doesn't spread the way the pre wrath event did. I remember personally starting an infection on my server on the sunwell island that ended up being self sustaining for the event and i don't feel like that sort of thing is really possible with this one.

Do you get xp for getting kills as a zombie or killing them?
If not, it is a complete waste of time. If this is Zombies 2.0, Blizz missed out on making dailies or WQs for the zombie part of the invasion

I was getting PVP honor for kills i got as a zombie. it was on my main so i'm not sure if kills were awarding XP or not.

Correction: Need to get Friendly with all 5 of the isle-factions, not just one of them. I did one in an hour or two, so should be totally doable... is what I'm telling myself. The hardest part is finding the starting place for each faction's main story.

Thanks, I figured it out eventually by trial and error. I didn't realise this was a new action button - it looks just like the one for putting on the robes, and I was wondering how anyone was supposed to figure out that they needed to do that again.

Use the map in your class hall.

Got my vulpera hunter to 50 and unlocked the heritage armor. I spent the last 3 levels in Pandaria which was amazing. I have never done much of it on the horde side and the armor looks I've looted make it so that I don't want to transmog to the heritage armor!
Survival is not a popular spec but I absolutely love it.

Huh, I didn't know that. I did end up getting to Friendly with each of the 5 factions, and I'm now working through the Argus campaign.

This is Legion? Just follow the road to the next zone and there will be an NPC there with a breadcrumb quest leading you to the story. There are even friendly Mages near the border of Highmountain and Stormheim to port you back to Dalaran so you can get properly shipwrecked on the coast.

The on-the-ground transitions between the Legion zones are actually pretty scenic with some great views, especially when you're headed in and out of Highmountain. It almost makes me regret their decision to let you do them in any order. But only almost.

Roads? Where I'm going, I don't need roads. No seriously, flying was very helpful for completing all of these - I just had trouble finding the start of each breadcrumb trail.

Edit: There we go.

So I have been in icecrown for the pre release stuff. Yeah the ilvl 100+ gear is pretty easy to get. Certainly no reason to start SL without it.

So how gimped will I be if I go into Shadowlands with a fresh 50? My close friend has convinced me to roll an alt over the past week or so but we probably won’t have a lot of time to level and gear up.

Not gimped just slower...

i didn;t spend much time on the beta, but it felt kind of like other expansions. i expect even if you were geared you would be replacing it almost immidiately. if you're concerned hop in on a few of the elite stomps in icecrwn the drops there will be better tha anything you'd have and the token gear is good too

I remember how much some people whined when BC came out.
"All of my raid gear is worthless!!" *Cries*

Even if you're not concerned, it's worth at least doing the iLevel 115 weapon quest. It takes like 10 minutes, most of which is just waiting for an elite mob in Eastern Plaguelands to respawn.

Quest

yea i don;t get that, but that the best part of new leveling zones is a new set of gear themes and appearances. if i wanna look like my old raid gear, all it takes in a quickie trip to the capital city or expansion hub
