Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

Deadly Class is great, I was so sad it didn't get a second season. The comics are excellent too.

I loved it but it doesn't have a ending.

Game of Thrones had... lol.

Seriously, Apart from Mad Men and Battle Star Galactica, I don't think many series have endings that are that good (Breaking Bad meh, Sopraonos ok-ish, Dexter far too long, GOT we won't mention). I actually fear for Stranger Things, given the fact that it get's more 'epic' every season,

BSG had an awful ending. Show jumped the shark with the final 5 and then still got worse in the finale

The Good Place had a good ending. And all 4 seasons are on Netflix!

Six Feet Under, Deadwood (as of like a year or so ago when the pulled it altogether with the movie). Mad Men's ending I find to be incredibly haunting and minimal. I adore that show.

Star Trek TNG had a perfect ending in an era when most shows didn't get endings, they just kind of... stopped.

I re-watched recently and was actually ok with it, but it definitely had some hand-waving stuff.

Deadly Class was mediocre for me. Don't really mind that it's been cancelled.

As for recent stuff, Mr. Robot and Dark ended nicely. Loved both shows.
Homecoming only had 2 seasons. Both seasons had a satisfying ending.

I rather enjoyed Buffy's last season. Angel's last episode had some issues, but I still enjoyed it.

Queen’s Gambit gooood.

Agreeeeeeeeed.

FINALLY watched Hunt for the Wilderpeople after having lived in NZ and having meant to watch it since it was in theaters. Absolutely delightful and touching. I like how it makes fun of American action movies and American police. That said, it's heartbreaking in the context of 2020 and living in Portland, Oregon with a nightmare military
police force.

Anyways, it's majestical and Sam Neil's best acting role.

I love that movie ever so much.

Watched Prospectand found it interesting. Can't say I liked it and I didn't not like it. I kind of want to watch it again. I would call it a western in space. This could have been a Firefly episode. We have these two people going to a planet to mine something. They fall into all kinds of trouble and put their hands in the planet's butt hole and pull stuff out.

My biggest problem was the situations seemed off or not complete.

Spoiler:

Pedro goes into a ship knowing the person inside has a gun but he walks in like he doesn't have a care in the world. He gets shot for this dumb move but I don't understand why he did it.

The girl runs away after finding out the natives want to buy her for breeding. There is a confrontation but just one. The other natives are nowhere to be found. She circle backs to their camp where she finds Pedro and they have snacks and patch themselves up in the native's camp. Where are the natives? It was just weird.

The girls father is killed and she doesn't seem to care at all. She cares that Pedro killed him but doesn't seem to care that he is dead. Was she mad at him for getting her mixed up in crazy deals? By the end of the movie Pedro is like her dad now. She can talk with him, laugh with, risk her life for him. I didn't get it. I mean just that morning he killed her dad and by nightfall he is her new dad.

Firefly in space but not as good. Wait a minute Firefly is in space. You know what I mean.

Finished up The Queen's Gambit in a five hour marathon session last night (something I rarely do).

Just an amazing production. Everything from the script to the acting to the costumes to the production design to the score all fit together perfectly.

It was a rough watch for me, because I'm not a fan of watching people in the throes of addiction. I've had to deal with people in my life like that enough times that it brings up very bad memories. But as a childhood chess enthusiast and major introvert, I could really identify with the character of Beth. Of course I was nowhere near her level.

I love how the series brings drama to the chess playing scenes and really made them work. And I've read that the technical details were very accurate, too, as they had more than one master chess player consulting.

If I have one complaint, it is that

Spoiler:

Beth is such a tragic character. She really has no joy in her life apart from winning tournaments. She has brief moments of connection with others, but while several characters are her friends, she still seems very alone. I had hope for the French model Chloe making a real connection with her, but in the end, Chloe was only really an exemplar of sixties culture.

The sole exception was her friend from the orphanage. Jolene, who had also become a success, showing up at the end was a treat.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Anya Taylor-Joy does next. The Eggers Viking movie and the Furiosa movie can't come soon enough!

Firefly had a good ending ;P

If you consider the movie the series finale, it wasn’t all that bad.

I was impressed by Prospect. I think they did a good amount with what they had. It’s got some issues, like the paternalism.

Friday Night Lights has the perfect ending

Finish Queen's Gambit and loved it. I give it 9.5 dollars that need to be paid out of 10. A couple of times I thought it would go to some dark places but it didn't or at least not to places I thought it would. One minor thing I would change is a thumbnail that kind of ruin a surprise. Well I also didn't care for a money exchange. That didn't rub true to me. Other than that it was a perfect show for me. Checkmate it out.

One more thing. This is a show where I only watched one episode per day. I couldn't watch more than that because the episode stayed with me. I had to let the episode sit in my head a bit before moving on. Same with Dark but I let the episode sit in my head for a week before moving on with that show.

Finished it this morning, loved it. The last episode is great the way it comes together and I cried a bit. I hope this inspires more women to play chess.

Same, I might also have got something in my eye.
I also watched one episode per day! But then I do that for most shows.

I loved it too, but would have loved it to be just a little longer, as the redemption arc of the last 30 minutes was just a bit too rushed for me. Great show, however. Totally agree with Baron - i thought it was going to go a few darker places than it did and I was very relieved it didn't go there.

So that's the last season then?

It’s not Stranger Things, so that’s a yes.

My favourite comedy group, Aunty Donna, have a show coming to Netflix on Nov 11. I'm really looking forward to it, if a little cautiously optimistic.

I should probably mention that this is now up and available to watch. I've watched the first two episodes and they were brilliant.

I was a little worried that maybe the US involvement would ruin the Australian humour aspect of their work as often happens, but that hasn't happened at all. I'm not sure how it translates for non-Australians but hopefully it's not much of an issue.

I think it's super funny and my wife thinks it's awful (definitely not her kind of comedy). I am both Swedish and American and haven't missed any jokes because of Australian-ness.

This. I watch this while doing dishes. Dishes used to take 30 minutes. I don't finish in under an hour. I have to keep stopping to ponder the chess matches or the drama. It is outstanding.
