Hidden Gems of Amazon Prime instant videos

I tried watching Brawl in Cell Block 99 but I thought Vince Vaughn's acting was terrible and I had to stop.

I did watch Bone Tomahawk this weekend and I enjoyed it. I don't know why I thought it was a horror movie, so I didn't get what I was expecting, but it was good.

Utopia is great. I started that this weekend too and it is fantastic.

I have not seen Bone Tomahawk, so I may be speaking out of my tail, but I got the impression that it was a hardcore, genre-like movie. I think horror fans can glom onto that stuff. The movie, The Guest is similar. It seems to get thrown in the horror genre pool, when it has more of a standard thriller flavor, from my memory.

I am going to finally chime in to say that I didn't enjoy Bone Tomahawk, despite loving Kurt Russell and Westerns. Also some horror.

There's not much to it, honestly. You could cut it down to 45 minutes, eliminate the most gratuitous graphic violence, and call it an episode of TV. They had way less story than a movie that length needs.

Edit: I don't think I made it clear how misplaced the gratuitous and disturbing violence was in a movie that was marketed as a Western. And if it was supposed to be a Western Horror, it needed more horror. I would like more Weird Westerns! Everyone should go read The Sixth Gun, a comic in that subgenre.

There is a whole lot of set up for very little pay off, but I felt it was well acted and I really liked backup deputy. I guess that was enough to keep me entertained.

I did feel like there was a bit if a Chekov's Gun scenario going with the foot problem, but maybe I was reading too much into it.

What Was Ours is a a fantastic documentary and must watch. Go watch it right away.

Watched The Terror season 2. The setting was great and ripe to explore (American Japanese internment during WW2), but it failed to be engaging in both the obvious struggles of the setting and the supernatural story. Everything was just too bland and superficial. The main actor also wasn't very good though truth be told, part of the blame falls on the script.

I have started both seasons of The Terror, and I have not finished either one. Season 2 held my interest for longer than the first one, but in the end I didn't find them engrossing enough. I thought they were just okay.

Am i supposed to feel bad for liking Utopia? All I can find is people talking how it's bad timing (I get it) and it's not as good as the original.

I started Mr Robot yesterday. Great so far.

Watched Gemini Man this morning and thought it was great. Don't get why it was so panned.

Finished Season 2 of The Boys. Excellent, one of my favorite recent shows.

Spoiler:

I don't get Victoria Neuman's plan. It seems that she is both helping and harming Vought. Is she just out to reap chaos?

Watch Season 3 to find out?

Would if I could right now.

Blow the Man Down (movie) is great!

I enjoyed the first 3 eps of Truth Seekers

Know what I just noticed is on Amazon Prime Video? Dead Like Me. An excellent show about a young woman who was hit by a falling piece of space debris (a toilet from MIR, I think?) - also featuring Mandy m'f'ing Patinkin!

I'll endorse this endorsement.

Hit and killed by a falling toilet seat but gets stuck working as a grim reaper. Henceforth she is known as "toilet girl"

I'm slowing down on Mr Robot. Season 2 is all about the mental illness and not the hacking. It's not bad but it doesn't let me escape my own head.

Season 2's first quarter/half is slower and more pondering. Stick with it.

Yeah, I agree. There were some missteps with season 2. But there is a lot that they did well also. And did very well afterwards.

The new James May cooking show “Oh Cook” is nice and fun. Recommended next time you want something comfortable and casual.

It’s been a long time since I watched it, but from what I remember, Dead Like Me was one of those truly unique and endearing shows that got sent to the chopping block far too soon. Another one, was Pushing Daisies.

Yeah, Pushing Daisies was really good.

Like Better Off Ted.

Good call.

This is one of the best scifi shows I've watched in recent years that I never knew existed, most likely because it originally ran on Starz.

It scratched a lot of my entertainment itches. I love spy thrillers and the show has some peak Cold War spy game-vibes going on, including being set in Germany. While the scifi premise at the core of the show wasn't completely unique, the way it was handled and the depth to which it was explored absolutely was. And that was only helped by the outstanding ensemble cast, including J.K. Simmons in the starring role.

Bonus points for being a complete series with two 10-epi seasons. You don't need to make a massive investment with it, but the show is very much worth a watch.

Speaking of Starz, I just watch Bloodshot on free preview week.
I have no idea why it got panned because it is entertaining. I have issues such as the powersuits looking like The Surge. But tbh, they both are reminiscent of the army prototypes and who's to say that those in Bloodshot didn't come first as the comic has been around much longer than the video game.

And wow is Eiza Gonzalez easy on the eyes and a capable actor too. Certainly a scene stealer on both fronts.
FWIW I enjoyed the Last Witch Hunter too. I have no issues with Vin Diesel. If I had piles of money from the Fast n Furious franchise, I'd put myself in super hero, fantasy and sci fi movies too!

Guy Pearce was an inspired choice to play Harting, considering
