Hey all, I'm looking for recommendations for new stuff to listen to at work. When I'm not in the mood for video game OSTs, I primarily do downtempo/trip-hop (Kruder & Dorfmeister, Bonobo, dZihan & Kamien, Funki Porcini) with the occasional side of big beat (Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers, Fluke) and synthwave (Perturbator, Protector 101, Action Jackson). Any suggestions of other acts or albums I should seek out?
Com Truise and other chillwave folks aren't a big stretch from the downtempo stuff you listed.
M83 might fit the bill too, depending on your tolerance for 80's nostalgia (don't let that put you off taking it for a spin - it's pretty great).
Bit of a left-field call, but Plaid? Kind of feels like the intersection of all 3 genres you call out. Try Double Figure or Not For Threes.
No recommendation list would be complete without Jamie XX's In Colour, which is currently in my top spot of my "album of the decade" list.
I have to say I bounced off of all the Boards Of Canada stuff the first time around, but I'm glad I gave them another shot as I've been listening to them non-stop recently.
And now for your daily spooky synths:
Raydar - Evil Squad
Raydar - Evil Squad II (hope you like harpsichord)
And some soundtracks:
Devilman Crybaby OST - Buddy, Ryo
Le Castle Vania - LED Spirals (John Wick OST)
Lastman OST - First Fight (man I wish this track was longer)
A good soundtrack will really elevate a show/movie/game for me.
Got around to listening to more of the recommendations in the thread, really enjoying Ital Tek and Jamie xx!
Yeah Jamie XX is really a standout. I was doing a lot flying for work last year and it was the only album I had downloaded for offline playing on Spotify. Kept forgetting to download more, but never really got bored listening to it. If I get back to it after a break I'm always amazed how good it really is.
I've been digging into podcasts for new music itch-scratching. Figured I'd share with the group.
Old skool hardcore jungle, complete with MC Jay Cunning yelling shout outs.
the Solid Steel podcast is well....solid.
And finally, a guilty pleasure: Slipmatt's World Of Rave. Oi Oi!!!
That's interesting, any idea who's involved? I can't tell from the podcast page but if Ed Handley and Andy Turner are a part of this I'm in.

My limited understanding is that it's the other dude and his new peeps.
Hmm... interesting. I never really followed the other dude and his peeps once Andy and Ed split. Might still have a look.

I've listened to a couple of them, and it's well worth it.
Came across this last night. It has that lo-fi beats thing going on which I quite enjoy.
If you want uplifting chill beats, I'm a big fan of Random Rab! Been hitting up his playlists a lot lately.
New Autechre album, SIGN:
It dropped already?!

Dropped last week, and it's good.
Unusually, its grabbed me from the get-go, usually there's a 5-10 listens I have to get through before it clicks. This feels uncharacteristically approachable for them.
Now listening to Kelly Lee Owens - Inner Song album. It's good.
Last week I listened to Kösch - Now Here No Where. Also good.

Aaaand, Autechre being Autechre, they're dropping another album next month, PLUS.
PLUS is already out on Apple Music, and I assume other places.
Fair point - I was confused because the vinyl doesn't arrive until next month.
So they dropped the second album literally two weeks after the first one.
Can anyone point me towards a genre or artist(s) that are the dance/rave/jungle version of bhangra? Asking for a wife.
