Cyberpunk Catch-All

What I'm concluding from the constantly-sliding release date is that they're still finding tons of bugs. I think I'm going to avoid this as a Day One buy, although I'm sure I'll get it eventually.

Early buyers, it seems to me, may be in for a rough time.

All businesses do it.

Hahaha.

I'm now out on this game, at least for launch.

Wouldn't be surprised if they devised away to get productivity from employees during the 15 minutes of allotted unfocused eye time.

Fifteen Minutes Hate contributed to this delay and we all know Eurasia is to blame.

As per that obnoxiously yellow image, for anyone who can't read its tiny font: "Going Gold" only means that the game has passed platform certification, can be completed, and has all content in it. The claim is that the team drastically underestimated how much time would need to go into the "Day 0" patch.

I'm old enough to remember a time before patches, a time when "going gold" actually meant something. I don't have any great nostalgia for that time, but it does seem as though there has been more than a little devaluation in that "gold".

See what I did there? I made a pun.

Anyway, from the other text in the message, I imagine the CP gameplay experience on the current gen consoles will be akin to the 360/PS3 versions of GTAV.

Checking the Gone Gold site for new info...I did that! Looong time ago

LOL

Remember when this game was coming out in April?

I know timing a release of a AAA video game is complicated and hard for everyone, but CDPR seems worse at it than most.

Having to wait sucks but we have already been waiting what 7 or 8 years since they announced this? Another month isn’t so bad especially if they can get the next gen patch out on day one.

Made my day jr.

Also dammit! I've moved leave each time a delay happened but this time I also scheduled surgery around it that I shouldn't move. I guess the other new shinies coming out around then won't get tossed aside as quickly, so silver lining.

This wasn't meant to happen until early-mid next year? If so I doubt they'd be able to move it up this far, most likely it's just bug fixes for now, but fingers crossed.

Eh don’t worry. It’ll probably move again before December rolls around anyway.

They mentioned next gen compatibility in the tweet, not the next gen patch.

I feel bad for bighoppa.

Me, I don't care about the delay, I can wait. Not everyone is so lucky.

I mean, Bloodlines 2 was like, look, we're delaying, and maybe we could get it out in the same "season" but... SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

Thanks for posting that message, whispa. It was an interesting read.

As others have noted, this is the 3rd delay: April moved to September. September moved to November. And now November has moved to December.

I'm sure demands of testing across multiple formats is a challenge. But I do wonder whether the basic issue is that the game just isn't an enjoyable experience. I found it intriguing that the developers chose to clarify what 'going gold' means. It's ready, it can be completed, and it has all the content. And yet...

It think Malor's right about bugs. But I'm beginning to suspect that the developers have discovered that the game is less than the sum of its parts.

I've been thinking about this a lot month, having tried to play Vampyr. I felt that the 3rd person movement, and the combat system detracted from the rest of the game, making it not fun to play overall. I think I managed 15-20 minutes on both of my attempts to play it.

Double Post. Sorry.

Ooh, I hope you're wrong about the 'no fun' part. Bugs can be fixed, but it's awful hard to patch your way from a bad game to a good or great one.

I'm not worried about the delays being because the game isn't good (especially this latest, short delay), it's pretty clear this is a big game with a lot of moving parts and they have set their sights on it being a AAA experience. And it's a new property for them, so they aren't exactly building on an existing framework. They also have a large pile of cash to keep pushing the date out, a less well-funded dev wouldn't have that option. Put it all together, plus a pandemic, and you've got yourself a hell of a lot of work to do.

I hope I'm wrong too, Malor. I've been looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077, to such an extent that nothing else currently in stores, in my PS Plus account or on my Pile appeals to me at all.

But I feel a nagging sense of disquiet about the fact that we've seen comparatively little gameplay footage. By which I mean footage of the main types of gameplay, how they link together, and some indication of what players will be doing most of the time. Instead, we've seen lots of (admittedly stunning) cutscenes and interviews with excited developers.

To illustrate, one of the original trailers of LA Noire talked about an "intense blend of action, and real detective work, that defies genre convention to create a unique and captivating thriller that immerses the player in the world of 1940s Los Angeles".

In reality, action sequences were few and far between. Instead, the player spent most of the game driving (slowly) across a beautifully-realised-city-facade in order to spend many minutes picking items of the floor at a crime scene. And the interview mini-game was poorly implemented to the point of being broken.

LA Noire is probably an unfair example to use, but I remember being very disappointed by the gap between what I expected and what I received. Certainly, I NEVER felt immersed in the world of 1940s Los Angeles.

EDIT: I take the point about the Pandemic, but that still doesn't explain the multiple delays. When European Government's responded to the Pandemic in March, the game was due only one month later.

But - to repeat - I very much hope I'm wrong, and that the deliver the game that we're all hoping for.

.

They've been showing off gameplay of different systems in the Night City Wire series on youtube. As for what we'll be doing... It's open world and we'll be following quests and going where ever we want

I think he means "real" gameplay, not practiced and segmented. Like, an actual player wandering around in the city and seeing what it looks and feels like. Everything they've shown, which is quite a lot, is polished and practiced.

it is a bit telling they don't have at least a couple videos of just handing a reporter or a streamer and controller for 15 or 20 minutes in the most feature complete chapter of the game and letting them go. Maybe an ostensible month out is too early for that kind of hype press, but CDPR isn't EA who needs to lock down their reviews until all the day of sales are completed (and we all know why EA needs to do that)

They've definitely had people playing and they've had positive things to say, but, yeah, not sure why there isn't more unedited/scripted footage. Or any, for that matter.

I am wondering if it is dome kind of cascading bug. A bug too big to leave in that is tied to a bunch of systems. So fixing would make multiple others in other systems.

Given the amount of ads I saw it seems they were all in on the November date.

It only took Hello Games about 3 years!

Oh well the development will make a good Youtube documentary someday.

Delayed because it isn't running well on current gen systems, per this report from a Polish business journal: http://biznes.pap.pl/en/news/all/inf...

I can't vouch for the credibility, but it seems totally plausible.

I suspect that the base X1 version is going to be akin to playing the Witcher 3 on a Switch.
