Video Game Deals Catch-All

Alright. I have a legitimate question. Old-timers around here will undoubtedly chortle and make obvious in-joke responses. Here goes:

Epic has Darksiders 3 on sale for $14.99. With the coupon, that brings it down to a record-low $9.99. Is Darksiders 3 worth $10?

Wouldn't the coupon bring it down to $4.99?

And the answer is, I guess, dependent on how much you like those B-tier and C-tier Dark Souls imitators. If your idea of a good time is a romp through Lords of the Fallen, Necropolis, or something similar, then knock yourself out. It's $5, so even if you bounce on the game after a few hours, you still had some fun.

On the other hand, if you don't like Souls-like games or you really prefer the From Software experience instead of a very uneven imitation, then no, don't bother. Spend that time (and your $5) somewhere else.

Indeed you're correct - $4.99, an even better discount. I got the numbers swapped in my head.

I liked Darksiders 1; didn't like Darksiders 2.
I love the Dark Souls games; didn't like Remnant: From the Ashes or Mortal Shell.

Sounds like even at $5 it may not be worth it. Thanks, Clock!

For that price it is worth it. For me Dark siders 3 has to cost less than $10 due to a few items that bugged me. At that price it is worth the odd issues I ran into.

SUPERHOT: Mind Control Delete for $5 after coupon, maybe? Is it "just" more Superhot, or does it take the basic game mechanics in new directions?

There's also a Halloween-y sale on Epic.

Yeah now or never on those coupons they gave out for free games like Rocket League that expire on Oct 31 or Nov 1. Buy something already on sale for $14.99 for maximum savings I guess.

Oh! Thanks for reminding me! Was wondering if I was going to snag a game or not... at $5 it isn't a question anymore.

Looks like they added Control ultimate edition since their last sale. $18 after coupon. Maybe...

Unfortunately I can’t use the coupon on the Control Season Pass in Canada. If the price was $1 higher I could.

$5 is enough for me to snag Darksiders 3 finally. Also grabbed Amnesia Rebirth with another coupon I had. $20 for that is pretty good.

Felt to me like a finished game where original Superhot felt like a tech demo. Can recommend for $5.

There's a slight evolution to the game mechanics, but it's still very much Superhot.

100% agreed. What I really want right now is an update to SuperHot VR that brings in some of the new elements from MCD. Fingers crossed.

Also eyeing Hellpoint and Mortal Shell on the off chance I'm interested in a Souls-like game right now.

I'm intrigued. Hadn't heard of either.

Mortal Shell seems to have better reviews. It sounds interesting with you basically changing classes by which shell you possess. Sounds a bit like Bloodborne with no blocking, and having to parry to regain health. But maybe I should just go finish that game finally.

Hellpoint has a nice sci-fi theme which would be refreshing and different to the bleak fantasy Souls. But apparently it's really confusing with no map and not nearly as well reviewed, and also has some performance issues. Maybe those are fixed since initial release?

I got DS3 for free on PS Plus. I couldn't bother to finish it.

I'm weird and really enjoyed Darksiders 3. A lot. I played through 3 times, but all over a year after launch. I really enjoy the overall story going on in the franchise, though. It's not great per-se, but if Darksiders 1 left you wanting more of the story, it's worth it for that. They've also updated a number of things since launch, and added a whole different combat mode for those that prefer an experience closer to the first 2 games. The combat as originally designed works, though. Yes, the enemies are inconsistent with attack timings from one attack type to the next, but I was able to adjust and I'm not the greatest.

I just used 1 on Hades. Have a second one and no ideas for what I'd use it on.

Manifold Garden for $7 is a steal.

Manifold Garden, Superliminal, and Kine have been my frontrunners. Also eyeing Hellpoint and Mortal Shell on the off chance I'm interested in a Souls-like game right now.

Got journey to save planet. Should be fun. Think it has coop.

It's Thursday, which means it's time again for free games on the Epic Game Store!

This week, you can pick up Costume Quest 2 and Layers of Fear 2.

Next week, look forward to Blair Witch and Ghostbusters The Video Game Remastered.

Spoiler:

Disclaimer: I have no idea if any of these are good. Costume Quest 1 was good, so I have reasonable hopes for CQ2.

Costume Quest 2 is awesome, fantastic, and full of cuteness. Also packed with joy, childhood memories, and imagination.
Not quite as good as CQ1 in my opinion. But definitely worth playing.

PSN US Store has a Halloween sale going on right now.

The highlight that I'm putting in my cart right now is the Alien Isolation Collection for a whopping $7.99. This is a game I have been interested in, but wanted to wait for a sale. No excuse not to at this price. Besides, I'm totally looking forward to playing a scare game for Halloween!

Dead Space $1.99 via Amazon for PC. Probably already have it for free but if you don't here it is. I only really hated one part and that was the shooting down asteroids part that took me over 30 attempts but that was on one of the consoles. Doing it with a mouse might have been easier. I also hated that the asteroid thing came up a second time. That was probably in my top ten times a game pissed me off. Ghost people, dead things, monsters, were all good. Those effing asteroids though. Man I think I'm still upset over it. I need a nap.

Don't feed the monkeys is $3.60 on steam. From the makers of Paper Please. I haven't played but it seems to be a game about spying on people using tech. You feed them by calling them, emailing them, or whatever through tech. Kind of rude calling people monkeys. Looks like you do things like warn them trouble is coming or try to get them in trouble some how. Maybe talk to them through their echo dot and tell them you can see their porn collection. IDK looks interesting though.

Two high risk security issues (and one lower risk) in nVidia graphics drivers prior to 3.20.5.70. Update immediately. These are ranked up to 8.2 out of ten on the Common Vulnerability Scoring System. Please take it seriously. These are comparable in threat to the one from last February.

Just to be fully clear, the vulnerabilities are in GeForce Experience, rather than the nVidia driver itself, so if you dont use GeForce Exerpience, then you won't be at risk from these two particular vuln's, but always best to be as fully up to date as you can be, regardless.

Ah that's nice. Stopped using the Experience crap 4 or 5 yeas ago. The only useful feature it has is auto-update check, but it's easy enough to just update every month or so.

For a Luddite who has just built a new PC, is there a guide on updating these drivers? I appreciate the warning.

In search type: device
Click on device manager
Click on the arrow next to display adapter
Right click on your nvidia device that is listed
click update driver
follow the prompts
It will more than likely prompt you to search the internet for drivers
Or you can download the drivers from nvidia's site and "update driver" should auto detect it

Thanks for the update.

I keep it since it has helped me with an issue before. Game would start in windowed mode then crash if I entered settings or tried to start the game/load a save. Used geforece to make it full screen then I could play. very odd errors.

It seems that the best drivers are already installed, but now I'll know to check every month or so. Thank you!

I did not think it was the drivers, but the geforce experience application. You will need to launch the geforce experience application (running taskbar or start menu) for the update, or download the driver and geforce package from nvidia and install a newer version. Or if you are lucky you do not (did not) install the geforce experience application and can ignore this.

FYI, I launched geforce experience just now, and it auto updated before the main window opened.

I opened this thread to find deals on game and got a different kind of experience geforced onto me.

I'll get it back on track... STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC 83% off!

May the GeForce be with you!

Just a reminder that Layers of Fear 2 is free via Epic games through Thursday of this week. It's a genuinely spooky and creepy game. It's been a while since I've been able to say that about a game. The binaural headphone setup really puts it over the top.

Lot's of easter eggs to other horror movies as well, not to mention Dr. Who and the Weeping Angels.
