I was just stuck in a parking lot waiting to pick up groceries.

So I installed Magic DOSBox on my phone.

And downloaded my backup copy of SF2 from Dropbox.

I truly can quit whenever I want to.

Blogname checks out. Tag name checks out.

Privateer can play with just a keyboard and is only 32 mb.

Gah, Privateer is stressful enough with a joystick. I can't imagine trying to fly with a virtual keyboard.

Got a new laptop, first in 35 years, had to break it in:

You had a laptop that lasted 35 years?

You kept the same screen from 35 years ago?

HAhaha no my last laptop was a Tandy 600 from 1985.

Congrats! good way to break it in, running R-Base. Haven't seen that app in years.

Oh, I thought it was DOS Commander.

That's a helluva BIOS screen.

I love you crazy diamonds.

@Veloxi - What's the best Privateer-like experience right now? I don't really want early access, something more 'finished'. I see X4 is now at version 3, is that where I should look?

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. Full stop.

Thank you sir!

Wonderful. Just know its tutorial isn't the best. But, if you're looking for Privateer 2020, you'll find no better.

You weren't kidding, This really is Privateer 2020!

I need to give this game another shot at some point. I was really disappointed in it. Ironically, it seemed like a step back from Rebel Galaxy in gameplay, when I was hoping for a step forward. I think I was really looking for a good stable of flyable vessels, and felt like RGO didn't deliver. Perhaps I need to give it a second shot with an open mind.

Don't think of Rebel Galaxy Outlaw as a sequel to Rebel Galaxy; think of it as a new franchise. Go in with that mindset and you might enjoy it more.

Yeah it's technically a prequel. They never sold it as an update to the original RG formula. You should definitely revisit it. Best space dogfighter since Freespace 2.

RGO also has a dozen very detailed and unique ships. C'mon now.

This is fine...

I see the limitations of the game but it really delivers the modern Privateer game loop. It's sometimes frustrating when you get blown away so quickly in an unexpected encounter. The mission difficulty is vague, sometimes a white 'medium' difficulty mission is actually really easy and other times it's so hard I die 6 times and abandon it.

There's almost no tutorial but if you've played Privateer you know what the game expects of you. Take mission(s) > Blow stuff up > fix/upgrade > repeat. I think they should rename the 'Primary missions' to something like 'Story missions' so players don't assume they should do them first.

Hey you already moved onto the next ship, well done. Just wait until you get the Coyote and, my personal all-time favorite ship in any game ever, the Beluga!

This second ship has carried me quite far. I've upgraded to the best hull I could find and the best shields and power it can take.

I'm using two gauss rifles and a plasma launcher. Just picked up swarm missiles.

She's a great ship. You can actually play through the entire game in the starter ship if you're good enough. I know folks who've done it.
