What are you playing this weekend?

Far Cry 2 apparently.

Amazing choice. I've been making my way through it on stream and I can see why many feel it's the best in the series.

Ikenfell (Switch)

A cute RPG about a school of witches. Your main character discovers that her sister has gone missing and she sets off to the Wizarding school of Ikenfell to find out what happened to her. The combat system is similar to Paper Mario with timed hits, but it also has some tactical depth with a 3x12 grid on which to position your characters. Your party and the enemies get to move before they attack and positioning is very important. I'm currently less than an hour in and I only have one character so far, but I currently have two spells -- a fireball that hits one space for large damage and a fire blast that hits up to 5 enemies in a plus shape for medium damage. There's no MP, so you're always able to use the best spell for the situation. A light TRPG with timed hits works surprisingly well together. The combat is a lot harder than I would have expected given the whimsical nature of the game and if you fail to nail those timed hits and defenses you are going to die and die fast.

This indie is definitely low budget and it's a little rough around the edges, but I'm really enjoying it so far. It's far too early for me to judge the plot, but it starts off interesting at the least.

Mostly just Chrono Trigger with the JRPG club. Kind of a hidden gem.

Kind of a hidden gem.

Heh, you must be young
Chrono Trigger is highly regarded as one of the best rpgs of all time.

Must be why I can't get into it.

But I'm pretty sure Sundown was being ironic.

Just a little bit.

It’s a replay for me (and most of the club, I think), but’s it’s been a decade since I played it, so it’s actually interesting to see how it holds up, even lacking some newer game design conventions.

I find myself wishing I had played it when it was still relatively current. I've played three Far Cry games (1, 2 and Blood Dragon, finishing all but 2), and of those I've enjoyed Blood Dragon the most so far. I'm still pretty early in 2 though.

Oh it gets better the further you get into it and you unlock all the fun toys.

And here I thought it was because Sundown hadn't chosen a tag. (In before the Eleima!)

I ended up playing a ton of Star Fleet II on my phone after installing Magic DOSBox. I'm not addicted. Nope.

-I can't tell whether I enjoy Necromunda Hive Wars or not. It has warts for sure which is a shame because the setting has huge potential. I know I like what little I played of Project Phoenix more and I suspect I'd like Gears Tactics quite a bit more.

Got another month of XBox game pass for a buck so I ended up downloading Gears Tactics. The art style is dated (graphics quality is high of course) but the gameplay is really good. I do like it better than most if not all of the turn based strategy games I have played recently.
I've only played about 30 minutes but:
- I like the staged mission structure a lot
-I like executions
-I like the translation of the cover system to turn based
-I like the holes that spawn enemies until you plug it with a grenade
-Overwatch isn't ground breaking but it is handled very well
-My only concern is that due to its Gears roots, there will be a lack of variety in everything: monster types, weapons, party members, skills, classes, etc.

I think I am going to fire up Wasteland 3 next.

Wasteland 3 seems a bit brutal but good. It is Wasteland, so the brutal should not be such a surprise

But Gears Tactics I am LOVING! If it had the cosmetic customization of say Necromunda, just wow.
Did it sell well? There was some buzz about it at launch. There was some sort of tit for tat because that new XCom came at the same time. They supposed to both be good but sort of diametrically opposed mechanics.

Needed some mindless button mashing and blowing up mobs. A little bit of Grim Dawn was exactly what was called for.

I think it’s time to start Hades this weekend.

YES, DO IT!

I'm playing pc building simulator, RL edition.
If i beat that i'll follow up with some stellaris, squadrons and hades.

I did not need much more enabling haha

I will mostly be confusing myself with two dungeon crawling control schemes, Minecraft Dungeons with the kids and Torchlight 2 for me if I get anytime for myself.

If I happen to have any time it looks something like this

Overcooked! 2 with the Wife
Luigis Mansion 3 with the 5 year old son!

Anything else I can squeez for myself is a win!

Nothing but Chrono Trigger (SNES) for me.

It's the second weekend of International GWJ Days 2020, so I'll mainly be playing some games online with other Goodjers.

I'll be joining in for some Root (Digital Edition), Wreckfest, Among Us, and MotleyWizard's 1-shot D&D

Sign up's are here

Solo games if I have time:
Frostpunk - I've just bought the season pass DLC
Euro Truck Simulator - chillin' with some music and podcasts in my newly purchased Mercedes truck

I'm going to finish Tell Me Why (I've completed the first two chapters and my review so far is that it's fine, probably the slightest of the DONTNOD adventure games, a bit uninspiring but still reasonably pleasant and enjoyable), might spend a little more time with Spiritfarer to see if I can push through to the end, and probably some Fortnite and maybe will dip my toes into Resident Evil 7 via Game Pass if I'm feeling brave.

I'm hoping to finish up Ys: Oath in Felghana this weekend. I'm on the final boss, but Nightmare mode is brutal and significantly harder than the Nightmare mode in the other Ys games. I've been slowly picking away at this game for three years now. I'm ready to be done with it.

I'm flitting from game to game at the moment, but the one constant is Monster Train. Just one...more...run.

Probably not much other than Morrowind. I might mainline the main quest here to free up NPCs for certain faction quest line shenanigans later.

I will continue with Sparkle Unleashed, and I might start Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, which I just bought.

Maybe the new one.
