Name that movie thread

Midnight Meat Train?

aka The other good Clive Barker movie besides Hellraiser.

It's Midnight Meat Train.

Also, Candyman is totally a great Clive Barker movie.

I'm not sure I would call Hellraiser good either.

Free play

I watched the Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs Hellraiser episode recently. He had both Ashley Laurence (Kirsty) and Doug Bradley (Pinhead) on for interviews. Something was pointed out that I hadn't realized and found fascinating. The Cenobites are one of the few enemies that only prey on the deserving. Every other horror icon stalks and kills innocent kids because they are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Jason kills teens that drink, smoke, and have sex at his old campground. Michael Meyers kills babysitters. Freddy stalks the dreams of the children of his murderers. But in order to get the Cenobites to come calling, you have to first learn about a Lament Configuration which doesn't happen as most people who do are torn apart, then you have to find one which is a chore and a half, and then you have to solve it which doesn't seem easy at all. Even then, they might spare you if you prove to be not worth their time. They spared Tiffany in Hellraiser II because solving puzzles was her psychosis and they recognized that she had no desire for the experience they offered. They set out to find who put her up to it instead. That's some complexity you don't often see in 80's horror.

Also, Nightbreed was pretty solid

I stand corrected as I totally forgot about this.

I'm actually not a big fan of the movie. It likely has something to do with reminding me a lot of Cats.

Oh, it's bad in many ways, but the good greatly outweigh it to me.

Oh, nice. Gonna give this a go.

Admittedly, as a fan of the Hellraiser series, I struggle with both the second and third movies. The second suffers from a lot of issues with second movies in trying to go bigger to recapture the special sauce of the original and the third gave too much screen time to the Cenobites.

I retract my Free play as I am no longer busy. I finally watched this movie last night. It's definitely a thing that exists.

I didn't much care for Hellraiser when I saw it, but this conversation makes me curious to rewatch it. I'm realizing that it's been seventeen or eighteen years since I watched it and maybe I'd have a different impression this time around.

Hellraiser is an interesting idea and the Cenobites are great creature design but the movie's just not great. There's a reason most of Clive Barker's stuff isn't directed by Clive Barker.

Here's a total non-giveaway image for the current movie:

That's The Gate. I'm certain.

Close.

That was kinda my takeaway: the idea is great, and the creature design is great, but the execution was really cheesy and amateurish. I hadn't realized that Barker directed it himself.

Pretty sure this is JCVD.

Im duty bound to links to my hellraiser podcast and to say how weird it was to see a film pretending to be American when it was filmed in England and they dubbed the actors.

A similar thing happened in Paper House where they dubbed Glenn Headley

(We did Nightbreed to).

Oh, it's still a bad movie in many ways, make no mistake.

Is it D.A.R.Y.L.? It's D.A.R.Y.L., isn't it.

I'm assuming it's C.H.U.D. To everyone else who guessed...

Well that's definitely Hellraiser Steve Martin talks to a sign LA Story.

You are correct!

Franck-enstein?

Since nobody else is going to, I guess I'll give an actual answer.

Father of the Bride. Free Play if I'm right.

If I'm wrong, it's Father of the Bride 2.

Sorry, completely missed your earlier post. You're correct!

Ummmmmm, free play. I'll bite.

Hint: The wife and I enjoyed it, so it's another "good" Clive Barker movie.
