General VR Catch-All

I looked at the Omni Kickstarter and decided against it. The mechanism is special shoes on a slippery surface (low friction). It is not an omni-treadmill. That means it's really tough to share because you have to have different shoe sizes for everyone. So you are held up from falling on your face by an arm you are working against and wearing on a static base. It's not a natural gait.

I was following the Infinadeck instead that could be used by anyone. Slower and less agile though.

I've watched the videos and I understand how it works and everything, but man that Inifinadeck is going to lead to a lot of broken limbs.

In Death on Quest is $30 so I'm going to wait for a price drop. When looking through the Oculus store I saw Walkabout Mini Golf. Game looks pretty sweet for $15. Both are wishlisted for when I'm through with the games I have.

I need to give Walkabout a look. I really like Pro Putt Golf on Quest. I'm not a golf person really, but I am a fan of some arcade golf and Pro Putt really nails that.

Yeah Pro Putt is great. Walkabout looks to be in the same vein but a straight up mini golf.

I am diving into VR with the Quest 2 arriving sometime this week. Anyone else getting one?

I ordered mine from Costco (they had a great deal that included the Elite Strap) and I still don't have shipping info. I should hopefully be getting it within the next week or so.

Mine should be arriving today! I had a Rift CV1 and havent touched it in a few years. Looking forward to revisiting some content like Eleven Table Tennis and Lone Echo while diving into new stuff like In Death and maybe the Walking Dead

Don't forget that a USB cable lets you use it as a PCVR headset.

My 20 minute impression is WOW IS THAT A CRISP DISPLAY! I've used the Rift DK2, the CV1, the Vive, the Vive Focus, and several Windows VR headsets. This is the best display I've used. I'll have to actually get into some games to see where it goes from here. I noticed that my Rift games that have Quest counterparts are being offered for free, which is nice since there is not really any bundled content.

Quest 2 comes in Friday. I'm very excited.

Double post. Oops.

Mine comes today, looking forward to seeing if some games can be played multiplayer with my kids using the original Quest but guessing I’d need to make a new account. Picked up my Elite strap yesterday since the original strap looks a little sketchy to me.

Speaking of that, would love to have some VR friends! I’m xDocjoex so please friend me up!

trueheart78 here.

Still feeling it out. Enjoying it so far, but haven’t done any gaming yet. Just some YouTube VR, Prime video, web browsing (like Twitch), etc. Trying not to go broke in buying a ton of stuff upfront, already have a few accessories on the way.

Make sure to check out Sidequest for some free experiences. If you can stomach it, Pavlov is great. Ancient Dungeon is also super neat. There's a lot of free stuff on there to try out.

I don't have a PC to side-load from so I'm restricted on what I can get for free, unfortunately.

I think you can install APKs from the Quest browser but I'd have to look it up again.

I haven't used my Rift in over a year and wasn't really tracking the Quest 2 launch...but the promotional blitz in the last few days won me over and now I have a Quest 2! I've spent most of my time on the system just getting old Rift and SteamVR games up and running. Playing Budget Cuts with 360 deg tracking and no cord is pretty neat.

Any recommendations for my first Quest 2 software purchase? I thought the demo for Journey of the Gods was lovely; has anybody played the full game?

"ThingumBob" in the Oculus system if anybody wants to friend up.

Pistol Whip is pretty awesome, its pretty enjoyable if you dont mind silly gunplay. I wish more of these games had demos though.

Yeah, me too. The return policy is pretty generous, though. Less then 2 hours play time and within 14 days of purchase and you can return.

Took the second half of the day off and was planning on digging into Rogue Squadron VR. I troubleshot for a couple hours then gave up. Oculus app stuck on "checking the status of your Oculus App" , then after a few minutes "can't Reach Oculus Service". Uninstalling and reinstalling does nothing. None of the online solutions have worked. All I've seen was Oculus staff requesting PM's from users with same issue like they are trying to hide the cause / solution. So frustrating.

Edit: Might have something to do with the Facebook integration update... Ughh.

I also had blocking problems trying to get Rogue Squadron VR to work but with different issues, and like a different issue every time I tried. I only got to actually see the game in VR once, and didnt have any audio that time.

To be fair my setup is Steam version of Squadrons > Steam VR > Oculus VR > Oculus Link > Quest 2

that's f*cking complicated.

Well to be fair the link is supposed to take care of those last three parts. So it's really just steam VR to Oculus VR which I haven't had many issues with in the past using Quest 1.

I bought the Epic / Origin version to get native Oculus support. I thought it would be smoother...

Facebook, the company that owns Oculus and has decreed that Oculus users will be required to link a Facebook account to their Oculus device in the future, is now banning people's Facebook accounts for linking their Facebook accounts to their Oculus devices.

Such a thin line between "virtual reality" and "Kafkaesque surrealism".

Very happy that when my CR1 rift started to have issues with cabling (the cable plugging into the headset is a little loose and keeps unplugging), that I decided to pre-order the Reverb G2.

This is something they will almost certainly resolve but it does make me nervous. My rarely used FB account hasn't been banned yet, so fingers crossed.

Well as painful as it was to bite the bullet, I factory reset the OG Oculus and set up a new account for the kids and downloaded Cook Out and Beat Saber. Was painful to pay for them a second time but now we can play multiplayer, was so fun! I am so digging the Quest 2, the lack of screen door is a game changer. Virtual Desktop also runs flawlessly was able to play Azuras Wrath no problem.

Man it's almost like Facebook wants to kill off positive word of mouth in a small niche market.

They said apparently they won't ban you for that.

I don't know that I believe it though. Seems really iffy.

Edit: apparently I linked back to the same article, they changed the headline haha.
