WoW: Dragonflight

It'll be a good time to level a new toon or two.

Or fill out your stable with level 50's at this point. Oct 13th to Dec 31st is well enough to level 40 (50?) characters to 50.

I admire your ambition.

I have four all leveled up now, and even with the boosts I am not sure I can do another right now.
My funky monk is a sad panda.

No no no, I meant once the pre patch level squish is in play. At 6-8 hours per level 50, you could get 40 lvl 50s in just over a month at just 1 per day.

At a modest 40 hours a week of play you would get 5-6 lvl 50s per week.

Ah, understood.

That is still an overpowering amount of WoW for me. Even theoretically, it hurts my old brain.

Fits my schedule quite well that it gets delayed. It is quite wild to delay so close to release though.

Just release Naxx already.

Anyone know if the 100% rep buff ends with the prepatch or with Shadowlands?

The XP buff expired today just as Blizzard said it would.

I hope they bring it back as a consolation prize. I bankrolled a ton of gold this month just from doing WQs.

Hm, the 100% rep buff was still active earlier today as far as I could tell.

Shame, still need like 10k rep.

That can't be right. I checked it this afternoon ...

(runs off to check again)

Well, I'll be damned. You're right, Shadout. The buff is still there.

And guess what? There's a blue post about it: The Impressive Influence 100% reputation buff has returned and will continue through the entirety of October.

Checked Mrrl on a whim in nazjatar and he had the Crimson seahorse for purchase. Flew down to Murloco and server hopped until he was up and bought the taco. Then traded stuff until I bought the seahorse mount. Only took 30-40m mostly server hopping until I got a good one with Murloco up.

Sweet!

This is for the best. The beta has been a real buggy mess.

I am still getting LUA errors after the newest push and I run zero mods in the test environment.

Pre patch pushed back another hour to 4pm pacific

I hear Twitch is dropping the last vestiges of the Curse client's mod manager. I never really liked it anyway, but it was decent for what it was. What's a good WoW mod manager these days? Bonus points if it'll handle ElvUI in addition to other stuff.

Just DL'd the patch and I can't even get into the realm list. The servers must be getting hammered. I HOPE this isn't because I don't have SSDs on my aging laptop...

LIVE but good luck getting in. I am stuck at the realm list too.
FWIW I have SSDs.

I've been on the brink of ordering a new gaming laptop for weeks. This was the last straw. I just picked up a beast both in performance and price. The only minor drawback was the RTX 2070 Super-Max card (instead of waiting months for the 3080s), but really if that's the only drawback somehow I think I'll be ok.

EDIT: Just got in, the squish is real! And...I need to update my graphics drivers.

*Sigh* Ok....ok.

Afaik, there will still be a separate curse mod. They are just 'splitting up'.

But I recently saw this:

Squish is real! Playing my 26 affliction warlock. Being level 26 feels weird despite being just as if not more powerful as level 63ish pre squish. I chose to chromie time to Legion. Again, kinda bizarre to grab my legendary weapon by level 29 ;P

I am writing this message because I just got kicked after an hour of play *sigh* (not that this isn't to be expected)

I got in and I am just not going to do this.

Checked out my 120's and I became overcome with "I don't care".

Yeah, I am lazy. I don't want to do my bars again and I don't want to learn the nuances of the the new stuff.
I am regretting pre-ordering SL.

I bought a token in case I change my mind, but I received no token, only the token withdrawal of the money from my pants. Yay.

PSA: The two unicorn mounts, Wild Dreamrunner and Lucid Nightmare, can now fly.

Played a little of my shadow priest and some affliction warlock. Also fired up my demon hunter to do the Highmountain Tauren unlock.

BFA lowbie leveling isn't too bad on horde side. And from what I recall on the PTR it isn't too bad on alliance either.

I know the somewhat lengthy intro quests for the expansion are helpful for new players but I can't help feeling they are an impediment for veterans who just want to enjoy questing wherever they please. Legion is supposed to be one of the faster leveling experiences but it is pretty convoluted getting started with the mandatory class hall stuff and legendary weapon quests. I know they are cool bits of lore but the weapons are useless so they serve as a pretty distraction.

It is not that I don't want story. I just want to be pigeon holed into the whole story. I think it would be better if we could do quest hub stories without having to do all the background of the over arching plot. A lot of the goals of the hubs are self contained for expansions dating back to Burning Crusade so I think it could work. You don't have to do Hellfire Peninsula before Zangamarsh, as much as you don't have to do Stormheim before Suramar. Which kinda sucks now for BFA, you have to do Zuldazar before you do Voldun. I don't recall that being the case before pre patch. At least I am quite positive that on Alliance side you could start in Drustvar, Stormsong or Tirgarde...

(tl;dr: I'm currently using WowUp)

I've been using WowUp for the past week or so. It seems to have the best coverage (retail/classic/beta) and is open source. It does handle ElvUI, or at least it did until the patch (now it shows a warning message and doesn't show the mod in my installed list).
It's been a hot mess with the 9.0.1 patch trying to get all of the updates.
I have found that WowUp doesn't seem to recognise a small handful of my mods (simply doesn't show them in the list). It only recognised them after I updated them with Twitch, and then did a Re-scan of the folders.
I also find it really slow when toggling an individual mod between release/beta/alpha (it seems to do a full rescan or something).
I miss the twitch integration that showed you all of the details of the mods within the app. WowUp just links you to the WowInterface web page (or whatever the source is).

WowUp does have a useful "Re-Scan folders" button that reloads all of the information from disk about all of your installed mods. This is useful when you're tinkering with multiple mod managers, or, like me, you have your mods sync'ed between multiple computers with dropbox. All of the mod managers seem to have an internal database of mod versions that you have installed. This causes them to think that you have an older/different version of a mod installed than is actually on disk.

I've also just started testing Ajour. I don't think it supports wow beta, but it does support classic. It does handle ElvUI. It supports switching between release/alpha/beta versions of mods much faster than WowUp. I'll report back with more of a review soon

I'm actually really looking forward to the release of Overwatch, which is supposed to be the official replacement for Twitch. They've been talking about it for bloody months though, and I'm a little frustrated that they seem to have dropped the ball on getting up and running in a reasonable amount of time.

Been using wowup as well. Similar experience. Think i will switch to overwolf when it releases.

I poked around with controller support today while checking out the new newbie zone. It's pretty nice, but it's definitely incomplete. Unfortunately I can't actually bind all the controller inputs to actions; it insists on treating the left trigger and bumper as modifiers. I need to be able to assign all the buttons on the controller and use the d-pad to page up and down to cover all the abilities. Hopefully they'll get it cleaned up and ready for prime time before too long.

Okay, the general populace got the memo that Draenor was the expansion to level in ;P
Every area leading including some of the quests involving the start of your garrison are jam packed.

For comparison, Legion has a straggler or 2 but is mostly you on your own.
Pandaria adds another straggler to the mix.
But BFA is empty and I can't imagine BC or WoTLK being in a better state. BC might be because of those who want to level up through dungeons because BC's are shorter and straightforward mechanics.

I could also see Cataclysm being not too bad because it includes all the revamped vanilla zones. You can still probably level quickly bouncing from newb zone to newb zone and mixing in zones like Red Ridge, Kharanos, Stone Talon, and HIllsbrad.

I like the idea of leveling in the whole expansion all the way through instead of leveling in 1 or 2 partial zones before you were onto the next expansion. For me I will probably pick one of the older areas BC or WoTLK but also maybe Draenor as those ones seem the most appealing to play through again. Being able to enjoy the whole zone/story before you level cap should be fun.

I started lvling allied race in BC. More fun to play the old content. But it sure is rough compared to the quest design in the modern expansions.

Has anyone gone thru the new starting zone area?

I did on the PTR. It was a ton of fun!

I went through it when I was testing out controller support, as it seemed best to do that with a fresh character that had few buttons to press. It's a very nice tutorial, but it's very obviously a tutorial. It's also very quick if you know the game already. I think it's great for new players but I'm glad veterans have the option to do the old newbie zones instead.

wow.. that's just masochism. BC really shows its age these days.

Looking on the bright side i gotta say the leveling changes have made me want to level alts from scratch for the first time since wrath. And for some reason i cant stop playing horde side. Been alliance since late BC.
