Can I remember anything about the three-gendered polyamorous space centaurs? Aside from the fact that they had human junk up front, and both sets of horse junk in the back?

Well I remember there being complicated look-up tables in the appendix about what combinations of couplings you needed to make baby ones of them.

So I'm going to go with "yes".

Did you remember they were named after musical modes? I just read that series a few years ago and really liked it.

Just to clarify, my name comes from the musical mode, not Triple Crown Horseman.

Wait a sec... Jonman wasn't joking?

Nope. There's also a 50-foot tall Marilyn Monroe.

The first two were nominated for Hugo awards in 1980 and 1981.

And content warning - there's super rapey parts in there. I haven't read them since I was a teenager, but I remember those too.

More warnings: I recall a few violent, gory deaths as well.

I thought the take on the Titanides' genders was interesting, but I'm a mostly hetero-cis-white-male. I'm curious as to the opinions of those who aren't. A quick search turned up this as the first hit: https://www.tor.com/2019/11/20/the-sex-chart-that-changed-my-life-spectrums-of-sexuality-in-john-varleys-wizard/

That bumped another memory - I think that series might have been my first exposure to a gay romance too? Vaguely remember that seeming pretty out-there to naïve 14 year old me.

I think Frederick Pohl's Heechee series was my first exposure to gay romance, but I was, like, 12 and understood none of it. I just thought the random spaceship destinations and black holes were cool.

I was talking to my wife about how we don't read books anymore (aside from audiobooks in the car). It feels like we've developed ADD late in life in that we seem to have the time/patience for reading our online feeds, not a full fledged book. I commented that perhaps it is more the world we live in rather than biology that has molded us into that. We both used to be voracious readers. Now I can barely summon the patience to get through a comic book.

I cut out social media (which I was reading a lot of in my spare time) and got back to reading books again. it worked for me.

I had to send my phone in for several week warranty fix. I was about to go out west and didn't need it anyway. It made me realize how much time I wasted scrolling...Got my phone back and now I am back to the same problem. I should probably quit my apps. I read so much more in great books in that period.

I have difficulty reading long form fiction (and non fiction for that matter) any more because of my mental condition. I should probably subscribe to Audible - I think I could make it through audiobooks. But I love reading so much, I just keep trying and making slow progress.

I shrug because it's a single-player game.

Probably wouldn't have worked without the image but since it is mostly text I am posting here.

This is basically describing the concept of liminal space- areas that exist on the boundaries of the public and private, designed to be existed in or traveled through but not permanently occupied.

Probably why I like my cul de sac gazebo so much, even though the bench seats are super uncomfortable. It feels timeless and peaceful inside.

That's 0.5% of his paycheck for that movie (not counting box office performance bonuses).

nvm

I don't know what it says about me that my only reaction to that statement is surprise that Ryan Reynolds made only $2M before bonuses for Deadpool.

It was a passion project for him. He probably took that amount to help the film's budget. Deadpool was made for $95M.

Meanwhile, Morena Baccarin was probably paid scale. (I have no idea if that is true, but y'know, women, movies, salaries...)

Actually I just read an article that showed some salaries for Deadpool 2, and the women made pretty good money, so I am probably unjustified in fabricating unfair salaries for the original.

My reaction was to figure out .5% of my paycheck. When I give 300 to charity I think it is good. I don't expect them to scoff at what a paltry sum it is.

I thought this was a very clear way to explain the correct usage.
