Minecraft

Squids? I get a ton of ink sacs from my looting sword, and my zombie-cured librarian trades me one emerald for every ink sac. Yeah, I've killed a few of them. But they're not a hostile mob, so they don't count for this achivement.

Endermites and Zoglins are two that I was sure I hadn't killed before, so I made a point to kill each, and they advanced my progress to 32 of 33 for the achievement. I've compared the stats page which tells you every mob you've killed with the 33 mobs listed on the wiki for the achievement and I'm able to check them all off. I think the achievement is bugged.

Meanwhile, I've been experimenting with some lesser used features in minecraft. I've got about 30 bees in 10 beehives making honey for me. That makes honey blocks which can be used like slime blocks in redstone piston builds.

Also, I bred a few turtles and crafted a turtle shell helmet. It gives you some armor plus an extra 10 seconds of breathing when you're underwater. It's not as good as fully enchanted diamond/netherite armor, but I can at least say I've done that now. Plus I now have a ton of turtles that like to hang out just outside my front door.

Is it possible one of the ones you killed died to environmental damage a little too long after the last time you hit it?

There's a mob section in statistics. You can go through and see how many you've killed of each mob (and how many times you've been killed by each mob). It might help you find your missing mob.

Tscott have you killed a zombified piglin?

I figured it out. It was an Elder Guardian that it wasn't counting even though I definitely had killed 3 in an ocean monument I had raided a long time ago (and it was showing 3 killed in my stats). Odd bug.

I raided a new monument this morning and it added that to the achievement counter. Of course, 1.16.2 just dropped so now I have to track down a Piglin Brute that was just added to finally get this achievement.

UPDATE: And after flying around randomly through the nether I found a Piglin Bastion with some Piglin Brutes- killed them from afar with my bow and arrow. Finally got the Monsters Hunted achievement. Bonus, I found the new Pigstep disc in a chest nearby so now I have all the music discs collected in the game too.

Recently felt like trying out a new world. Random seed started me in a jungle next to an ocean. I probably haven't gone more than few hundred blocks away from spawn. But in less than 10 hours I have a skeleton farm (XP, bows, arrows and bones), a cave spider farm (tons of XP and string) and a mending diamond pickaxe (from mending book found at the skeleton spawner).

And, no other items crafted out of diamonds. Other than so much wasted time strip mining and finding next to no diamonds, not a bad start.

When they introduced job blocks for villagers, I think trading became a more reliable method for getting diamond equipment than mining is. You can even strip lousy enchantments off with the grindstone and re-enchant at level 30.

New world, new home.

Interior needs a lot of work but I think I'm happy with the outside for now.

Also under my home is an abandoned mine shaft. In that mine shaft was a very large rectangular room with a dirt floor, and an Enderman dropped a grass block in that room which turned all the dirt to grass. And it turns out that entire room is inside a slime chunk. So I decorrated this room to look nice and cozy for any slime who happen to spawn inside.

I like you color scheme on the house.

What, if any, texture packs and/or shaders would you recommend to improve the graphics? The standard graphics are grainy.

I usually run BDCraft, but the modpack I'm playing - Enigmatica 5 on 1.15.2 - isn't fully supported.

Heh, I always play standard graphics.

Interior design is my passion.

What they say about finding more gold in mesa biomes is apparently true.

Nice, low key check out my netherite brag too. lol

I'm pretty excited for the new caves and cliffs update. The vibration sening blocks and the new cave mob are pretty awesome... almost interested in everything. (Except glow squids...)

Is two pickaxes (one silk touch, one fortune) and a sword a netherite brag? I think if I also had my shovel, ax and hoe upgraded that would be the true brag, but those are low priority. I've only got my pants and boots upgraded as far as armor too (because my elytra is usually replacing my chestplate and my helmet is gold so the Piglins don't attack me on sight in the Nether)

I'm liking all I've seen so far about the caves and cliffs update, but it's so far away right now that I'm not getting excited about it yet. I'm sure I'll be starting a new world when that update eventually comes out.

Using item frames as chest labels is really clever. I'll have to nick that idea.

I've never been into Minecraft until the pandemic started. I picked it up because my six-year-old was playing it, and I started doing pixel art sculptures in creative mode while she role-played. But eventually she wanted to start a survival mode game, and I found myself unexpectedly pretty hooked on it. I'm still fairly early in the game and a total newbie, so I'm constantly having to look up how to make things, and I get endlessly distracted by doing things like building a library with an elaborate glazed terracotta floor pattern.

Somehow I went from bouncing hard off the game eight or nine years ago to now running four servers so that I can access various worlds regardless of where I am.

I'll post pictures of that library when I'm done with it, but meanwhile here are just a few of the pixel art sculptures, plus one 3D sculpture of Steamboat Willie.

Nice, Cloq!

Now we just need to get you to join the modded Minecraft server.

So that I can build Pikachu and you can put an enormous dick on him?

Of course not, in modded Minecraft we build machines that build Pikachu for us!

Sure it takes 10 times as long, but it's 1.5 times as fun!

Yeah, it's a lifesaver, although my current storage system needs a slight expansion and a little overhaul (the "Sand" chest has sand, gravel and glass, for just one example).

I got the idea from Pixlriffs, but I'm sure he's not the first to use it. I linked his Survival Guide a few pages back and it's still the very best Minecraft 'Let's Play'/Guide/Build Tutorial series out there. (Although the early episodes have some now outdated information- like how villages work, etc.). His posting has slowed lately, due to life, but he's currently working on building a museum in his world that will one day hopefully contain exhibits for every single thing in Minecraft.

Just bought MC again on Xbox One. My wife started some maps, but every time she dies her stuff is all gone and she can't recover it. She can find her XP orbs, but no items. Even when she dies right next to her spawn. These are vanilla worlds as far as I can tell.

There should be an option in the menu to NOT lose stuff when dying.

There is, but it looks like it is part of the cheats section. It shouldn't be a cheat for your stuff to drop on the ground and have to go pick it up.

Also the load times are atrocious now! MS really killed this game.

Items should persist on the ground for 5 minutes before despawning. That's standard vanilla Minecraft from forever. I just tested it in Win10 Minecraft (RTX beta) and confirmed that my stuff did drop on the ground when I died.

Yeah, whenever I've died in vanilla on Xbox One, my stuff is there when I return to where I died, plus some fraction of my XP orbs.

I agree about the load times. They're pretty terrible on Xbox, but extremely fast on Android. No idea what the difference is.

Is it normal for villages to just slowly depopulate and fall apart? I have two villages near where I made my settlement, and every time I visit them they've fallen further into chaos. The villagers are slowly disappearing, and the paths between houses are losing chunks. A big hole has opened up in one. It's given the whole world an apocalyptic cast.

If the chunk is loaded then villagers can be killed by mobs, for sure. Usually if I know I'll be staying near enough to a village that it will be active, I light it up and build a fence around it.

I've never heard of chasms suddenly appearing, though. Was it made of gravity-affected blocks?

Zombies attack villagers. If you're close enough to the village that the area is loaded into memory, at night you could have zombies going in and killing/converting villagers. Losing parts of paths or buildings is not normal.

If they're being attacked, could the lost parts of roads and things be from creepers exploding? I also discovered a huge village in the desert that had literally two inhabitants, and another that had no inhabitants at all but clearly wasn't an abandoned village (I've found those, too).

How do I tell if a village is being loaded into memory?

I believe by default in single player 12 chunks surrounding the player are loaded into memory.

Basically if you can see the village it is loaded. Light it up and build a fence.

Creepers shouldn't be exploding because neither the villagers nor the zombies would attack them.

Are you playing singleplayer or multiplayer? The Java version or Bedrock version?
