Baldur's Gate 3 Catch-All

Wasn't it confirmed that the lvl 10 cap was only for the early access, and it would be higher at release?

The level cap for ACTUAL 5e D&D should be level 10!

you don't like rocket tag?

the early access cap was originally 3, now it's 4. the intended full came is cap was supposed to be 10, but they've walked back that language

Any word on if some of the new races (Triton/Tiefling/what-have-you) and classes (Artificer) will be eventually included?

I mean Tiefling is in there now. I imagine there'll be some DLC released with new stuff. Larian are pretty good about adding a ton of stuff post-release. Artificers...are a particular bugbear of mine. I have one in my CoS game and good grief, they are in dire need of a nerf.

When I play RPGs as "not good" characters, I really need to learn to role play being "not good" - mind you I did give the Bard in the Druid's Grove a hard time for being not very good. That'll do.

Still poking around in the character builder and I'm really excited about the ranger options, I wonder what was influenced by whats coming out in Tasha's.

Does this feel like a demo, or would you say it is more like a real game that will eventually have more content and polish? I read that there was about 25 hours of content, which seems like a lot if there are low level caps and other hard limits on what is available now.

I want to pull the trigger but will probably wait if this is just a sneak peek for people who want to pay early.

It's an extended Demo of an unfinished game. It is rather good though. There are people who release games less good than this as finished products.

I was expecting more and yet I'm also not surprised.......

Humans are so boring and they taste so bland. How are there not more drow?

I wonder if all the githraki and drow counter each other to create middle of the road humans ;P

I've never really liked Gith, but +1 on more drow (and tieflings) plz. Especially since they seem to be giving them a bit more nuance than WotC does.

my next P&P character is a Medusa. I can't imagine ever wanting to play something as vanilla as a mere human. I do that every day in real life (as far as anyone knows).

* In other news - after a couple of patches the game runs! (well, reasonably well. certainly doesn't go beyond my frustration threshold any more. So it feels like i can finally have a proper play around with it a bit.

The Kotaku article on BG3’s average character is great.

Damn dirty enablers... downloading now.

Only had 15 minutes with it. Intro cutscene is great!

Anyone experiencing FPS issues? I’m on a 2080TI and it’s chugging at 1440p. Didn’t expect to have issues.

They have said that if you are having performance issues then it's a good idea to switch from Vulkan to DirectX11 in the launch window

Yep it's barely playable for me at times (some of that will be my aging laptop, the rest i put down to the fact that they probably wont optimise things properly till the end anyway. it seems to be getting gradually better with every patch). i'm assuming since Divinity 2 runs perfectly fine that it'll probably get there in the end.

The Intro *IS* great. It's got me thinking i really need to up my game when it comes to starting fresh 5e campaigns. The "everyone meets at the tavern" trope is well past its sell by date. In-media res chaos is where its at!

Larain isn't mad, they're just... disappointed...

From the patch notes...

Before the fixes, let’s share something you’ve created yourselves (this is your own fault) through your choices in character creation. We took the most popular choices in character creation, and recreated this. We thought our analytics system wasn’t working! We checked. It is.

Congratulations, you’ve basically made the default Vault Dweller. What the hell guys. We gave you demon eyes, horns, and even tails. We are sorely disappointed. Go crazy. We worked hard on this.

Sigh...I knew I shouldn't look at this thread.

People are complaining about a level 10 cap? Have they not played D&D? Level 10 is OP!

I DM'd 'Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus' and my players only made it to level 13 by the end!

Heh, have you not played D&D? Level 13 is way more powerful than level 10. That is 2 more spell ranks (up to rank 7!!!) and IIRC level 13 merits the max number of attacks per round for fighters. Also, isn't 13 the cap for bonus hit die? Every level after that is just a small flat increase. You also get another stat point at level 12.

I have to say that one of the things in this EA that doesn't strike me as too good an idea is the level progression - it feels quite quick for this sort of game. However I also think this is where Larian are still in much more of an Original Sin mindset than a Dungeons and Dragons mindset.

Unfortunately one of the main issues I've been reading so far on the forums and subreddit is that you don't seem to get much (if any) XP for resolving situations through negotiation or speech choices - it's all combat orientated. If they do allow more XP for that (and I don't disagree with the sentiment) there are enough other encounters that do need combat it would make leveling very quick indeed. I don't think D&D really supports that.

level 1-3 in p&p is super fast, because they want you to get to your subclass choices asap. Usually I just skip levels 1 and 2 and just start players at level 3 to be honest.

I'm pretty sure most of us DMs just skip XP gain these days anyway and just use milestone levelling.

For anyone experiencing FPS issues on an Nvidia card-Try rolling back to the previous driver version (456.55) that was released on Sept. 28th.

I was getting 14fps in the game with the latest October drivers (456.71) rolling back the the previous version puts me in the 80s at Ultra (on a 2080TI).

I have 2080 Ti at 1440p, i7 9700K, with no problems, getting average 100-140 fps. Settings wise Ive only changed v sync to triple buffering and overall preset on Ultra using Vulcan.

I'm enjoying the game alot but feeling its to much like Divinity Sin 3/Dragon Age rather than Baldur's Gate 3, for me personally. Not sure I can put my finger on why, but I'm sure it will be a very good rpg when its finished.

Well of course it is but this isn't a complete game right? Level 10 for a partial game is quite a bit of progression.

The max level for Early Access is level 4. I’ve easily reached level 3 just doing stuff in a very small portion of the map so far.

Ah so it's max level 10 for the whole game, gotcha. Well that's a little disappointing but I'm sure I'll enjoy it anyway.

Larian has waffled due to public backlash so we will have to see. I don't expect BG3 to be released for another year despite how competent the game is so far.

The more I play this the more it is Original Sin 3 in pretty much all it's mechanics. The plot & characters isn't (quite) but I do wonder how much that is going to come through in the coming weeks. There are a few comments out there now about the whole "It's Original Sin 3" issue, it'll be interesting to see how Larian respond to it all

I don't personally regard it as a bad thing by the way, but they really are going to need to make their mind up what it is they are trying to build - something unique with the D&D ruleset, or OS3 with the D&D ruleset shoehorned in any available way they think they can get away with. So far it feels more like the latter than the former. It most certainly is not and will never be Bioware's Baldurs Gate, and anyone coming to this expecting that is going to be disappointed.

You do wonder if Wizards of the Coast will step in at some point and start making the odd suggestion. I get the impression they've been very hands off so far. I'd imagine having to sort out level progression might be one of the issues they'll need to address
