[Discussion] Discussions & Debates Videos

videos with subject matter more suited to d&d than everything else. to be discussed and / or debated, with offshot threads if discussion on a particular video or subject warrants it.

New All Gas No Brakes from last weekend’s Proud Boys rally here in Portland. Not shown: them chickening out on their threats of having a “clearing night” to rid the streets of protestors.
This video also highlights how Tarrio uses his skin color to deflect from the very real white supremacist nature of his group.

Andrew’s been a fairly frequent guest at the protests.

Interesting video on the Netflix documentary the social dilemma.

While he does not go in depth on the political issues he does touch on them. I think I have to agree with his general points. This video made me not want to watch the documentary as it sounds like a very flawed documentary at best.

This is a thing.

Makes me want to get a trial of HBO Max.

Indigenous Peoples' Day in AZ

As Land and Water Protectors peacefully protest and pray, Arizona Department of Public Safety uses tear gas and projectiles to violently disperse and arrest. I mean, they're just celebrating the history of our indigenous peoples with a re-enactment, that's all.

NSFW language in both videos.

In case you need a refresher on Qanon:

ERB is back:

Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Peter Serafinowicz have a new webseries made entirely with deepfaked actors. It gets a bit South-Parkey at times but it has some great moments and overall is a sight to behold.

Now that Lindsey Graham is making noise again, I wanted to bring back this palate-cleanser, circa his red-faced indignation in defence of Brett Kavanaugh:

Les Mis fans it’s time to sing along!

Don't know if anyone has ever posted Renegade Cut's videos here before, but I really like his channel. I discovered him from a video where he takes down Star Trek Executive Producer Rick Berman. Here's one he just released:

From the greatest musical, that was awesome!!

Someone mentioned in some thread or other that there’s a Harry Potter TV series coming. My natural reaction was “oh great, JK Rowling again” but I didn’t bring it up because it wasn’t a D&D topic.

Then tonight, what to my wondering eyes should appear but a new ContraPoints video on the topic of JK Rowling, or more accurately, on the topic of the insidious and often invisible nature of bigotry.

I’ve only finished the first third of the ninety minute video essay, but I’ve seen enough that I can recommend it. And because it is a typically dense video, while I’m taking a short break and digesting the first part, I thought I’d drop by here and recommend it.

ContraPonts on JK Rowling [and bigotry]

As I say, ninety minutes and not light watching so don’t expect to get anything out of it if you watch it while playing CS:GO or whatever.

EDIT: After watching the rest of the video, I can recommend it even more enthusiastically. Good stuff, and a lot to think about. It is broken up into roughly 30 minute chunks, so if 90 minutes is too daunting, you can check It out in self contained bite sized chunks.

Maybe the FCC needs to make regulations about what kind of programming is allowed to call itself news. And opinion segments need to be clearly identified. 11 of those people have no idea what news is.

And those regulations need to apply to social media, too.

Some real classy performances by such folks as disgraced rapist Matt Lauer and astonishing misogynist Diane Sawyer in the documentary, which is on Hulu and a few other spots. Watch that paparazzi slimelord’s inability to reckon with his own sins create a wall of delusion. In real time.

what the f*ck did we, as a culture and society, do to this person? How is she still a legal slave of her father twelve years later?

Just watched that Spears report. That whole situation stinks. I can’t believe the judges keep granting her father control of her finances when there is such an obvious conflict of interest. The whole thing about turning the conservatorship into more of a business arrangement is appalling. Buncha goddamn vampires. I’m glad she at least had the right to refuse to perform, because without that she’d just be an utter puppet. And she’s also most of the way to puppet.

Most of all it’s shocking to me that this has been going on for years and years. It almost seems like a permanent solution to a temporary problem she had when she was unable to deal with tabloid leeches. As the report mentioned, it’s a completely different world now that social media allows celebrities or their PR teams to show the fans only what the celebrity is comfortable showing.

The End of Surprise Billing for Medical Care?

Amber Ruffin and her writers nail it once again with an informational segment on racism against Asians

I love, love, lo-huh-hove that it requires effort to obtain Trump's viewpoint, and that is only available as a phone video with a wedding-emcee vibe on a gossip site.

I think Trump is finally ready for The Gong Show, he's been practicing for years.
