Baldur's Gate 3 Catch-All

I remember loading up the original 1984 Elite on cassette tape.

You’re not that old.

Early 20s me would disagree quite strongly.

As seemingly none of my devices can natively run this game, I will actually try to play this on Stadia when it comes out today. I'm not yet sure if this is the best way to go, but I tried Destiny 2 on my Macbook and apart from some minor hickups it was running fine, so here's hoping BG3 will be playable as well. Even if it turns out that Stadia is not an option in the long run, I must have bought Baldur's Gate 2 three times in my life as well, so why not start with the first purchase of BG3 early...

People people.... STADIA!!!!

They literally helped fund this game... no downloads.... if you don't want it in 4k and don't want pro, it's literally a free platform (aside from the purchase price of the game).

This is the right solution.
Here is the GWJer thread.

Spoiler:

I am not pushing hard just so I have more people to play with... but I do acknowledge I get this benefit... ;-)

When can I give them my money?!?!

Edit: AHA! 12 central!

Now available for download on Steam.

£50 ($60).

Found a small streamer that makes a ton of content for the game already. Throw him a subscribe.

Blimey that took a while to sort out. Wouldn't accept payment for quite a while and then it took an age to initialize the download. Still doing so now, should take an hour or so to download (clocks in at just under 60GB)

ACG likes it, and loves Larian, but is still concerned about it being a Baldur's Gate game.

My impression from most of the people taking a really hard "This isn't a baldurs gate game" are falling into a bit of a trap of comparing this game to their nostalgic memories of baldurs gate from their childhood rather than actually comparing it to the games themselves. In particular that stick out to be are the "it's got too many bright colors" complaints that make me think they aren't really remembering the original game that well.

Oh good, the Diablo 3 "argument" again.

Too many bright colors? I mean, the beautiful grounds of Candlekeep in BG1 alone . . .

Exactly. and the plane of air in BG2, heck the over-world map in BG 2 when you aren't in the underdark was vivid green.

I’m excited about the game but I’m going to wait after reading the Kotaku review. Too many bugs and not enough explanation.

I've waited 20 years. I can wait a little longer. With that said, ordering that laptop this week.

Baldur's Gate 3 - First Steps Into Early Access

So this whole time I was supposed to be mad at every FPS game for not being Perfect Dark? It has perfect in the title.

Anyway downloading.

I will give it a try tonight. I assume I will pop in and out since so much in not finished. I think I will mostly just get a feel for systems and such so when the game release happens I won't make a character that screws me over.

Both Eurogamers and Rock Paper Shotgun’s reviews are pretty positive, with the caveat it’s early access.

Please don't take my summarization as ACG's stance without watching the video. I'd hate for him to be lumped in with folks who are taking a hard line stance just because they're old and cynical now.

From the preview he's missing some lore and finds the pacing a bit off, but admits that there's clearly missing cutscenes and the like. I mean, at the end of the video he says that Larian is the perfect company to be doing BG3, so...

He seems pretty positive about it over all, it IS early access, and lets me honest, BG1 and to some degree BG2 would feel pretty scant themselves if all you had to go on was act 1. I don't think the first significant reveal in BG2 comes until well into act 2

My "problem" with Larian making BG3 continues to be 'turnbased' and wondering if they can pull off a more serious world. D:OS world is very silly on purpose.

The game does not exactly look colorful in the videos above. They seem to love grey, green and brown.

It is available on GOG as well.
I may buy it there. I assume that I still get to play the early access if I buy it on GOG?
And I bit... Installing now

I may as well get this now... If I do, I might actually have time to figure out what character I want to play by the time it releases.

BG could be sort of frivolous as well... it was just a little more of a sprinkling of goofiness than the David S Pumpkins levels that D:OS would sometimes hit.

Yes, I crave the dark and dramatic duo of Minsc and Boo from the original Baldur's Gate and not this new, shiny, happy Larian claptrap that involves intellect devourers and illithids!

Enable me people! Is it worth buying now or wait?

It crashes as I am trying to leave the ship to finish the intro every time.
It has really good bones. I am loving my drow warlock.

So consider yourself enabled if you have patience to deal with bugs. Like you can play for 10 minutes without crashing but that is it. The good news is it loads quickly. (at least in the intro)

The only other knock I have against it is the intro area is a little confusing where to go next until you figure out the telegraphs/waypoints. I also died by mis-clicking and running through fire so there is that too

Also, it has drawn me in from the get go unlike either of the Divinity rpgs.
