Name a Band / Song We Should Know About

Awe, man! Did you use google again?

Actually I'm just now belatedly watching "Hip-Hop Evolution", and like two days ago I got to the bit where they show early videos of Eminem battling, and I was struck by how young he looked, and then I checked and realized he's a couple years older than me

Yeah. Em has always had that baby faced look. Even today.

Hip-hop Evolution! That is a great show. I love the first episode. They casually gloss over the story of how DJ Hollywood may have invented that original late 70s rap cadence. There are many who make that claim, but I like Hollywood’s story. It seems extremely believable to me.

The KRS1 episode is great. The tribe called quest and De La Soul episode is great. The East Coast versus West Coast gangsta rap episode is awesome.

And since this is the post a song thread, here is the song that DJ Hollywood says inspired him to create that original late 70s rap cadence.

The Shat has a new album of blues standards with legendary guitarists guesting on every track. The production is top notch.

Mister tambourine man... MISTER... TAMBOURINE MAN! mistertambourine... MAAAAN!

I have a CD called Golden Throats: The Great Celebrity Sing-Off! with Shatner's Mr. Tambourine Man AND Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds.

This is the full track list:
"Proud Mary" - Leonard Nimoy
"It Ain't Me, Babe" - Sebastian Cabot
"Blowin' in the Wind" - Eddie Albert
"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" - William Shatner
"A Whiter Shade of Pale" - Noel Harrison
"I Can See for Miles" - Frankie Randall
"Try a Little Tenderness" - Jack Webb
"Twist and Shout" - Mae West
"House of the Rising Sun" - Andy Griffith
"Mr. Tambourine Man" - William Shatner
"You Are the Sunshine of My Life" - Jim Nabors
"Like a Rolling Stone" - Sebastian Cabot
"White Room" - Joel Grey
"If I Had a Hammer" - Leonard Nimoy

Apparently they also released Vols 2 through 4 of this series but I never got around to checking the the rest out. I think one volume of this was more than enough for me.

This song certainly is not new, or something that hasnt been heard before, but this version takes it to another level. He still has amazing voice

Spotify just hit me with this. I could not stop listening to this album back then...

Video unavailable is a long time favorite of mine, too.

Thanks, Warner Music Group. It was "All is full of love" by Björk.

Happy birthday, John Lennon.

I don’t believe in Elvis
I don’t believe in Zimmerman
I don’t believe in Beatles
I just believe in me... Yoko and me

New full length LP from Black Thought and it’s great.

Really funky groove. I need more of this kind of sound in my life.

Older song but I just heard it while watching Helstrom. Also comes up in Dark but I haven't gotten to that episode yet.

I also thought this guy did video games. He sounds like someone that sang in a video game but can't remember which one. I didn't see any game credits for him though.

Adult Swim x Ben & Jerry’s Present Holy Calamavote | A Special Performance by Run The Jewels

Every time I see Zombie by Cranberries online, people say "oh, nobody can ever cover that song because Dolores O'Riordan's voice is what makes it, and her voice was unique."

And largely, I agree with them. Her voice was one of a kind.

But a few days ago, Miley Cyrus covered Zombie at the Whiskey-a-Gogo in L.A. She didn't try to copy the vocal style of O'Riordan, and her performance is pretty amazing:

New-ish Aesop Rock. He continues to own.

Somebody left a note complimenting one of my audio projects, saying they were going to use it to make sound clips for their synth music, and when I went to check their bandcamp I found it very pleasant.

It's glitchy and ambient and pseudo-random sounding (though not actually random or procedural, I don't think).

We were basking in his glow a page or 2 back.

She's been on a roll with her covers lately. Covering Pink Floyd, The Cure, Blondie and like this one knocking it out of the park.

I also enjoy this cover of Zombies that was supposed to have O'Riordan in it but she passed.

So we were. And, like, 2 posts above my RJD2 video. What even is memory and/or recall?

Dubstep Badgers, by weebl

Would you be willing to share a link to some of your own music?

In that case it was a utility, a sound FX generator that I use for procedural stuff and gamedev, but which the other chap was interested in using to export wav files to use in his ambient stuff.

For what I make, "music" is probably too strong a term for it I make procedural nonsense like this megaman-style chiptune version of "Autumn Leaves", or this gypsy jazz cover of the Legend of Zelda theme.

BAH! My iPhone won’t play nice with that site due to JavaScript. I’ll try later with a better device.

Ah sorry about that, it's pretty CPU heavy, and especially on older phones will sound like ass. I used to have a disclaimer there to that effect, but removed it the other day when I realized that newer phones seem to manage it. But yeah, it builds all the audio dynamically out of sine waves and filters etc., so it's needlessly rough on the CPU.

WOW!! New Sturgill Simpson bluegrass album. As you may have guessed, it’s incredible!
