WoW: Dragonflight

HOLY CRAP!!!!!

I just watched a video regarding lore and cherry picking cinematics for what Sylvannas is doing and hinting at the Jailer's game in Shadowlands.

Totally spoilering and maybe those of you with more raid experience already know a lot of this...

Blizzard meandered through the execution of this but I still think the twist will land hard. (like a raucous woah wtf moment) And I am now a convert.
You are going to be put off by this but here goes:

Spoiler:

-Sylvannas is a hero. Shadowlands will completely upend what happened with Arthas and how Sylvannas has picked up his mission to combat the true massive threat behind the scenes.
-The jailer enlisted her to break the barrier between life and death so that all souls go to the Maw, empowering him.
-Sylvannas is using the jailer's plans to undo him. She is trying to get the horde and alliance to stop squabbling over who did what to whom on Azeroth because it is "toy soldier" nothingness.
-Sylvannas captures Azeroth's strongest leaders (Thrall, Baine, Anduin and Jaina) and imprisons them in the Maw. This goes along with the jailer's plans but she hopes they finally see the true jailer threat and build an army to defeat the jailer.
-Arthas tried to do the same thing as the lich king but his method was to turn everyone scourge. So it failed and it probably wouldn't have been successful against the jailer either.
-I may be giving Blizzard too much credit but revealing that Nzoth was who told voljin to make Sylvannas the warchief may reveal something like even nzoth knew who the true threat was. And by that extent, there are a lot of other powerful beings like elune and the titans that could be putting some crazy chess pieces into play.

None of that really comes out in any raid I've been in.

Spoiler:

And none of that makes Sylvannas a hero. Maybe she is scheming against a bigger enemy, but she's still a monster. And besides, there are far better ways to unite the Alliance and Horde against a common enemy than by having them spend all their military strength on one another. Just clue the Kirin Tor in to what's up and they'll get 'em pointed in the right direction.

Minor beta spoilers, found from the first and last zones of the new expansion's leveling campaign, and one dungeon spoiler.

Spoiler:

Also worth noting, it wasn't N'zoth who whispered in a former warchief's ear... but the Loa of Death (not Bwon'samdi, he's the Loa of Graves)... who will be a dungeon boss in the next expansion.

Also worth noting that both Bastion and Revendreth have been attacked, apparently, by the Void and Light respectively, so N'zoth wouldn't really make a lot of sense as a Void entity in trying to undo death's hold, they want the primal force destroyed all together, by the sounds of thing.

Grats to me. Got 100 exalted reps this morning. About 15 mins later, got my 101st exalted rep and the Insane title.

It's insane to keep playing after all that but here I am prepping for SL.

Wow! That title is wholly appropriate for the accomplishment

That's crazy! Congrats!

Holy shit - congrats!

wow! awesome!!

I believe that there are only 101 reps in game at all currently, not counting reps that have been removed. Very impressive man, grats!

That achievement is a deep mountain.

I /salute you, Enix! Congratulations!

No pre-patch today i assume?

Thanks, y'all. That's a virtual mountain I've been trying to climb for a while now. Glad to have it climbed.

Nope. All signs point to Oct. 6, which would give us three weeks of b!tching and moaning about all the class changes and bugs until SL gets here on the 26th.

Speaking of Bellular mentioned a few posts back...
He just released a new video on the pre-patch leveling experience.
He had a bad run of 8.5 hours to level 50 (10-50)
But without any special tactics, the average player can work their way through WoD and level 10-50 in 6 hours.
It does not rely on treasures and flying. (treasure xp was nerfed in beta)
He does remark that at several points, even in your 30s and 40s, levels take 4-5 minutes to complete.
One thing I don't think he is giving enough weight too is he has a full stack of enchantments. With heirlooms, stuff dies incredibly quickly which can cut leveling time down at least 25% (by far the most % of leveling time is travel time)

So bring on that damn pre-patch!

and having to commit to busting ass to try and finish pre patch events

-There are apparently 2 weeks of pre-patch events planned in Northrend.
I am wondering if you need to complete the 1st week in order to participate in the second week?
-It seems like it is a bunch of stuff for level 50s but I can't help but think it would be a missed opportunity to level up lowbies as well?
Seems like a great thing to open up for at least level 30s
-My highest gear score is 420 on my DH and the pre-patch event is supposed to drop level 100 gear. (equal to GS 440) Both of these are higher than the stuff that drops in the first expansion areas. (which is awesome since several classes were undergeared/f*cked while leveling at the start of Legion after patch 7.3.5)
-So I don't know if I am going to skip the pre-patch events on my DH and gear up my druid, rogue and DK instead. (all GS of 360 or less)
The problem with that is the DH is so versatile for questing with unparalleled self sustain, DPS, and movement.

I would assume that it'll be like all gated content: If you start in Week 1, you'll have to wait till Week 2 to finish; and if you start on Week 2, you can knock out both rounds at once.

Just a guess, tho.

That is crazy fast. Almost turns levelling into a mere formality. I have not leveled an alt from level 1 in many moons. Just used the boosts that came with new expacs. Looks like it's time for that enh shammy and sublety rogue to get goin.

That sounds really fast. Too fast even.
But hey, I guess I'll level more of the allied races then.

I'm actually pretty stoked that the pre-patch didn't drop today. I'm still working on my "faceless" title achievement. After being away from the game for a couple of months, I did the Orgrimmar horrific vision with 5 masks, and now I need to do the Stormwind vision with the same. Most of the run is fairly easy at this point, but god dang, I hate that mage tower section.
Hopefully I can get it done by the end of the week.

-I signed in last night and early this morning to get my 55 monk to 60 so that she will have flight when the pre-patch launches. I was going to do other characters and after about 15 minutes on my 52 paladin, I just felt it wasn't worth it.
-Even the classes that didn't see much change are benefitting from unpruned abilities. So at the very least, every class will have a more interesting rotation and combined with the leveling speed and chromie time, it just makes so much more sense to wait for.

side note: I got a portable 1 TB SSD to specifically play WoW on my laptop. It works swimmingly

Interesting idea on the portable SSD option. I like that Idea for playing at work. The work Drive is small and only allows me basically one game installed at a time.

WoW has always been amazingly portable.
I remember in 07-09 installing WoW on a network drive and during the latter half of the graveyard shift, having 3 people play off the same copy. (separate bnet accounts of course)

I can't remember when it was, but I believe I had a conversation with another coworker who lamented when WoW would no longer fit on a 64GB thumb drive.

And I did it! I'm pretty sure I had only about 12 sanity left when Alleria died. Got my mount and new title.
Now off to finish the Brawlers guild.

Grats! The best I've been able to clear is three of the five zones. I always get lost, stunned, silenced or all three.

I have a bazillion of the tokens to buy the thing to run the visions. (I can never remember currency names; I have no idea how Blizzard keeps them all straight.) Maybe I'll just keep at it till the Mail Muncher drops (or doesn't).

Enix wrote:

I think the luckiest I ever got in WoW, mathematically speaking, was when my wife and I got the Mail Muncher. It was our very first vision run and I told her "we need to click on the mailboxes because there's a chance they drop a thing" and darn if it didn't pop out of the first one we checked. After we killed it my wife asked what we were looking for and I just said "that was it. We don't have to fool with mailboxes any more." I'll always remember that whenever the raid boss is being particularly stubborn about not giving me a weapon I need...

Shadowlands delayed

UH oh.

The language here is pretty worrying too. pre-patch doesn't release until the 13th, and it won't include the pre-launch event. their 'later this year' language kind of has a 'well if we open it up on dec 31st we won't technically be lying' character to it.

Wow!
And youtube is filled with videos on how Blizz will never delay the expansion.
I am bummed but more that I have to wait longer for the pre patch. That is what matters to me most.

Hopefully they do really get a chance to solidly polish the expansion. If it is still a mess after this delay then the ensuing interwebs ire will be justified.

"Uh oh" is right. This is unprecedented but, hey, it's entirely on brand for 2020.

I'm going to miss the first week of pre-patch if it drops Oct 13. But it looks like we'll be at it a while. It'll be a good time to level a new toon or two.

Fits my schedule quite well that it gets delayed. It is quite wild to delay so close to release though.

Just release Naxx already.

Anyone know if the 100% rep buff ends with the prepatch or with Shadowlands?
Still working toward exalted with the 8.3 reputations.

I am a little happy about this news. The changes to the leveling squish and all the class changes I felt like it would hamper the launch of Shadowlands a few weeks until that got sorted out. This at least will break things in the current xpac which is mostly just farm whatever atm.

It'll be a good time to level a new toon or two.

Or fill out your stable with level 50's at this point. Oct 13th to Dec 31st is well enough to level 40 (50?) characters to 50.
