International Gamers With Jobs Days 2020!

International GWJ Days 2020

Section:

*International Gamers With Jobs Days 2020 Online Game Sign-Ups*

October is nearly at hand, so it's time to announce the dates for this year's International Gamers With Jobs Day! Thank you to everyone who took the survey to help determine the dates; it was a delight to go through each of your messages. We tallied up the results, and it was a tie between the weekend of the 10th and the weekend of the 17th!

So we thought... Why not both?

2020 is probably as good a year as any to allow ourselves to celebrate a bit extra. This will allow for a less intense pace and provide additional flexibility in scheduling so more folks can participate. A few of you asked for "every weekend in October," but this year, that would mean five weekends! That did seem a bit much; however, we appreciate the sentiment and your enthusiasm.

As we mentioned previously, under the current situation, we ask that IGWJD celebrations be held primarily online. To help encourage and assist in coordination and planning, we've created a simple GWJ Gaming Sign-Ups Spreadsheet. This will allow all of us to gauge interest and plan for specific games and groups. Once a group has coalesced, those folks can hash out the finer details, such as dates and times, in the comments below or over at the #igwjd Discord channel.

Please, feel free to add entries onto the spreadsheet for any game, old or new, you'd like to play with other forum members. You never know what someone else may have sitting deep in their Steam library or massive itch.io collection that they'd like to revisit. When you add a new game to the sheet, mention it in the comments here or the Discord channels so others can go take a look. There are separate tabs for Video Games, Online Board Games, Online TTRPGs, and Other Meetings/Get-Togethers. Be sure to check all of the tabs that interest you!

To participate in community gaming, you may need some of the following:

  • A headset & mic (and the ability to mute yourself in some way)
  • Access to any of the games you'd like to get involved in
  • A Discord account
  • A Zoom account (if you intend to host a Zoom meeting)
  • A webcam (if you would like to participate in any Zoom/Discord dance parties or toasts)
  • A Twitch account and streaming setup (if you'd like to have your games hosted on the GWJ Twitch channel in between scheduled streams)

Throughout both weekends, we'll also host livestreams over on our GamersWithJobs Twitch Channel, including appearances from podcasters and other GWJ content creators, as well as the regular rotation of channels to host and highlight. We'll post streaming schedules a little closer to the dates. If you'd like to have your play hosted by our Twitch channel or want to stream directly on the GWJ Twitch account, please reach out to Amoebic via PM, or email call (at) gamerswithjobs.com to coordinate the schedule.

Thank you all so much for your love, enthusiasm, and support of GWJ. It means the world to us that you would consider us as part of your home. Whether you're an active multiplayer-gamer or completely new to gaming with us online, we would love to see you come out for IGWJD 2020!

Much love always,
GWJ

I added TBD entries for Rocket League and TF2!

Woohoo.

Started gauging support for an Elite Dangerous play date over in that game's forum

Added a page to the spreadsheet for discord user names so folks can friend up and coordinate, invite to groups, and so forth.

Added an entry for Rainbow Six: Siege. It’s a game I want to play but am endlessly intimidating by. We could play co-op if nothing else.

Who's down for joining me in a charge in Guild Wars 2? I can catmander us around Tyria, defeating bosses and killing baddies everywhere!

Game's free to play!

Great! I can only really play it on PS4. I should have mention that.

Having just caught Amoebic streaming a game of Root on the GWJ Twitch channel. I've added it as a suggestion in the spreadsheet under the online board gaming tab.

It's a really fun game of asymmetrical woodland warfare and the digital adaptation of the board game is very good. (available for PC & iOS/Android on tablets)

Please put your name down if you're interested and if there's enough interest, I can work out a day/time that suits.

I added a Wreckfest session to the spreadsheet, in case anyone is interested in some hard-hitting racing action. I plan on setting up a private server (I say "plan" because Wreckfest is finnicky with that stuff, but I've tried it last night and it worked...) and we will probably just play a variety of events with loaner vehicles available so no previous experience is needed.

I do not plan on streaming just because I've never streamed anything before, but if anybody wants to do that, please let me know.

Ok for boardgames, I put Clans of Caledonia on the goog doc, but I would also consider other options (on boardgame arena to narrow it down). Made a poll here. https://doodle.com/poll/2nrxdrx55ehd... Can talk about times in the comments, I'm pretty flexible but can't do the morning-middayish zone US time, can do afternoon and evening.

I've added an additional Wreckfest session to the spreadsheet for the second weekend and to make it accessible for the European time zones. I've just bought the game so I plan to get some practice in over the next few days!

Thanks Pink Stripes for your help and advice for the game!

I'll check if this is in my ps+ library, if so I could be up for it. Be 10pm UK onwards, I'll stick in on the doc after checked if got it.

I think TheHarpoMarxist and I are going to be able to do a commentary stream on Blaseball this Saturday at 4pm EST.
