NFL 2020: Week 2

Pages

Some things I know I think (with apologies to Peter King, who only thinks what he thinks without knowing):

1. CAAAAAAAAAAAAAM. Dude isn't hurt in the slightest (although he might have tweaked a hammie).

2. Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson sure are exciting!

3. Lavonte David is really, really good, which is something that MMD has been telling us for years. I need no further convincing.

4. Every time Talcum Hull sees game action, the Saints coach should lose a Hall of Fame vote.

5. A stat to watch: yards per passing attempt. In Week 1, Brees (6.7) and Brady (5.3) were 21st and 27th, respectively. The Saints will be fine with that short-ball crap because of Alvin Kamara and all their receivers. But the Bucs will be screwed. Bruce Arians likes chunk plays, and dainty Tom Brady can take only tiny bites.

6. Speaking of Cam, remember that he's a one-year rental for the Patriots. Belichick has no reason to try to save his body and every reason to run him 10-15 times a game.

7. I'm torn on the Washington FT. It's a miserable organization that should go DIAF, but I'm glad to see the Riverboat (who's fighting cancer, by the way) pull off a second-half comeback. As long as WFT sucks, the NFL can ignore them. But if they make the playoffs, maybe they'll have to do something about their miserable waste-of-flesh owner.

8. Also: 8 sacks by the WFT. That's the D-line the Riverboat always wanted in Carolina and never quite got (though he was close a couple of times.)

9. It's only Week 1. Don't panic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10. These teams should panic, however Browns and Lions. But panic mode is normal in Cleveland and Detroit, so carry on, I guess.

It is Wednesday.

Pace yourself.

Yeah what will we do all day on Thurs if not ask for a new thread?

I was going to get this thing out Tuesday but I got distracted.

No respect for tradition, this one.

Can Washington switch to French or something so the name is Washington Team de Foosball so that the acronym actually makes sense?

Browns on TNF!!!

Yeah, nobody other than me and Joe Burrow cares.

The Browns yes. But getting boatraced by the Ravens is something that's going to happen to a lot of teams this year.

The Lions won that game if Swift can hang on to a ball that literally hit him in the hands with NO ONE around. Not worried about the Lions. The Bears still suck though.

A bigger worry is for either Atlanta or Dallas. Whoever loses this week essentially is out of the playoffs (caveat the Cowboys play in literally the worst division in football so they could probably make the playoffs as a 7-9 team). If the Cowboys threw the ball 5% more, they win that game easy. Zeke is a boat anchor for that team, not only his 3.3 YPC suckness but the Endowment effect of his contract is a blackhole that sucks in all logic and reason. They won't win as long as he is on the roster.

I care. I have no rooting interest in this game, but I think this one will be a lot of fun.

I really want to see if Burrow is a real pro QB. Mayfield can be either a stud or a dud, sometimes on the same play.

What's interesting is the Browns sold out to stop the run game, which more or less worked. I mean, it didn't kill the run game, but they weren't getting 7+ yd carries with regularity.

And when passing, the Browns sent multiple blitzers, which didn't work. It's clear they've got a long way to go to trying to stop Lamar, but this wasn't a horrible way to try, on paper. Problem is I don't think their pass rush is very effective and when you're giving up an extra person in pass D in order to rush against teams with speed all over the place, then you're leaving someone open. Basically, I don't think they respected Lamar's passing ability, which is fine. You keep doing that.

Sure is a lot of crowd noise for the few folks actually there, whoever is actually there.

Poor Mixon getting perpetually hot in the backfield.

Clearly yall are watching the game too! Lol

Baker looks much better tonight, dropping dimes himself.

Course it's in part because the Bengals are awful on D and the Browns are using play action well.

Burrow has mastered behind the line passing. Would be nice to see him have more than a half second to pass.

Only took six tries for the Browns to find the end zone!

The Browns look great tonight, but about 40 percent of that is the Bengals being baaaaad. I think I saw Joe Burrow's soul leave his body about that strip stack. Ooof.

Next year's draft should be fun with all the teams trying to trade with the Bengals for Trevor Lawrence.

I just looked at the stat line; Burrow threw 61 passes? For only 316 yards?

That's a whole lot of checkdowns, rookie.

His OL is def an issue.

Green had 3 catches on 13 targets.

It's like Andy Dalton never left.

He looked old, slow and like injuries had finally taken their toll.

Burrow missed on some of the throws, so no faulting Green there, but the Browns DBs were basically stuck to him like glue.

Maybe he's washed up, maybe he's rusty as hell. Maybe both.

He was out snapped by younger guys. That should tell you a lot about where he is physically, but if I were Joe Burrow I'd be looking for Tyler Boyd all day. That guy was playing like a TE at times.

Remember when John Ross was the 9th overall draft pick 4 years ago?

0 catches on 2 targets. Damn.

The guy has a catch rate just north of 40%; I'm pretty surprised the guy's still on an NFL roster at this point. He's been godawful.

I said the same while watching him last night. His 4.2 speed doesn't show up anywhere in the game. I'm surprised he is even on the field.

Ross actually posted some numbers last year. He missed half the season, but in 8 games he had 506 yards, 3 TDs, 18 YPC, and he cracked 50% catch rate (as in, exactly 50.00%).

Of course, when you look closer and see that over half of the yards (270) and all 3 TDs came in the first 2 games, then it's not quite as good of a look.

In fact, if you remove those two games, he loses 37% of his career receiving yards.

Didn't seem like the Bengals WRs had any YAC last night. Burrow generally made pretty good throws to the right guy in the right spot. But either he was a little late on the throws, or the WRs couldn't get any separation, or both.

And, yeah, lots of checkdowns. Burrow's smart enough to know if he stands in there and tries to throw the deep ball he'll be knocked back to Baton Rouge.

This would probably be really frustrating for Bengals fans if the next three picks were . . . uh . . . Patrick Mahomes, Marshon Lattimore, and Deshaun Watson.

The next WR selected, though, was your boy Zay Jones.

The WR draft was pretty rough at the top. Three top 10 WRs and they were Corey Davis, Mike Williams, and Ross. Then Zay Jones and Curtis Samuel in the early 2nd.

Then in the late 2nd through 3rd we finally get good WRs: Juju Smith-Schuster, Cooper Kupp, Chris Godwin, and Kenny Golladay. Though there were a couple misses sandwiched in there too: the Titans doubling up on misses by adding Taywan Taylor alongside their selection of Corey Davis, and the Broncos drafting Carlos Henderson and getting the same number of career games and receptions that they would have gotten from the pick by drafting me.

I knew I was excited for Frank Clark the player coming to KC. But I'm loving Frank Clark the quote machine even more. He is living his best life these days.

I just saw an NFL Network promo that claimed that the Raiders' new stadium is nicknamed the Death Star, "where opponents' dreams go to die." Does anyone watch the original Star Wars trilogy anymore?!

Teddy at 1, Lamar at 415, for me on TV today. Every week should be like this.

The 49ers are being injured into oblivion.

Deebo, Kittle, Sherman, Dee Ford, starting center Richburg all out.

Nick Bosa just carted into locker room with a serious looking knee injury. Solomon Thomas carted off 2 plays later.

Garoppolo limped off the field with a gimpy ankle at the end of the last drive.

Shanahan on the sidelines looking like he's about to cry.

Today's a friggin' bloodbath.
