I overslept this morning. It was great!

My partner and I have started taking turns to have one lie in at the weekend. It's amazing, my body yearns for the time that just happened every weekend.

Wife and I have been doing this since the kid arrived. My only problem is that I stay up waaaay too late playing games the night before my lie-in, so I never end up catching up on sleep.

It's about the only multi-hour chunk of time I have to play.

Slay the Spire is a great pre sleep game. I play in bed, on my phone. The screen is almost too small, which makes my eyes a little tired. The decision making aspects tax my brain. At some point I’ll turn off my phone and go directly to sleep.

The Deus Ex: Human Revolution soundtrack.

There were a lot of things about the game that didn’t work for me, but I love its music and visual style.

Yes. I still listen to it.

It still cycles through my playlists as well.

This stuff: it is instant ramen, but it tastes nothing like instant ramen. I was amazed the first packet of it I made - I was expecting garbage ramen, but this is actually not that far off what you'd get in a mediocre ramen joint (which I realize sounds like a backhanded compliment, but I'm just saying it's amazing for instant ramen).

Last weekend I watched Ben Folds do a live stream on YouTube. He was actively reading the chat scroll, often times in the middle of performing a song. I’m a HUGE fan of Ben and his music so I started to chime in on the quickly scrolling chat. He acknowledged my comments two or three times, among many other folks’ as well. His performances were on point and incredibly entertaining.

As the live stream came to a close I quickly became a Patreon supporter of Ben so that I could participate in the exclusive hang out for his patrons. He acknowledged a totally sincere compliment that I posted and was super sweet about it. He laughed at one of my jokes as well. He was saying that he maybe wanted a hip-hop producer to produce his next record. I quickly typed, “Let Snoop and Martha produce it.” He chuckled and said he would love to have Snoop and Martha Stewart produce his next record.

I’ve only seen him live once. It was the best live performance that I’d ever experienced; which BTW is the compliment that I paid him. Even at that live show, he was interacting with the audience quite a bit, and I was able to have some limited back and forth with him.

I love the sh*t out of that guy.

My wife's a huge Ben Folds fan, so I got her his recent autobiography for Christmas, and I'm not sure she could make it all the way through it because he was so up himself.

But yeah, his live performances with a livestream chat are a hoot!

It's been raining all day just west of Portland. The air smells... weird. But I'm so happy at the idea that the smoke might be out of the air tomorrow.

I'm half tempted to get my kid and go bounce on the backyard trampoline in the rain.

EDIT - I was entirely tempted, and we had a superb 20 minute bounce getting soaked to the skin!

Bailey the giraffe at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo might be pregnant! They've set up a birth stall for her just in case since it could happen at any time!

Sigh. Get ready for the mud floods...

OMG. Bekkilyn, do you just hop from zoostream to zoostream looking for preggers giraffes? Seems like a wholesome hobby.

LOL a perk of being a part of the giraffe community.

I listened to the audiobook. Ben was the reader, of course. Ironically, I didn’t get the sense that he was tooting his own horn so much. Maybe his delivery colored my opinion. I actually got the sense that he was confessing his shortcomings. He talked about how odd he was as a young kid, how rude he was, his many divorces, his lack of respect for other people’s music.

Oh. That might be the part where our interpretations differ. In hearing Ben read the audiobook, he was not proud of his shortcomings. It was more like a regretful account of how much of a jerk he could be. I can see how in reading the text that may not have been so clear. I feel like a major theme of the book is just how messed up of a person he is. He knows where he’s gone wrong in his life, and wasn’t going to sugar coat it for the book. So many times in the book I remember thinking, “goddam this guys messed up.” But everyone is messed up, right? There are many things in my past that I’m not proud about, but I’m not going to write a book about it.

It's the giraffe conspiracy!

I ate popcorn a while ago and now for some reason my farts smell like pleasantly pungent popcorn. Ponderous!

So your farts are either slow and clumsy because of great weight or dull, laborious, or excessively solemn? Could go either way, really.

The Hammer is my penis.

Sorry
