Cyberpunk Catch-All

What background are people thinking they're going to go with? I was leaning Street Kid but I like to construct elaborate backstories for my characters even if it has any actual impact on gameplay, and lately I am thinking Nomad fits better with the Simone-Giertz/Kaylee-from-Firefly personality I have in my head.

The weapons trailer is.. uh.. something else.

Street Kid most likely for my first playthrough.

Street kid or Corp. I kinda like the idea of being Corp and seeing it for what it is then tearing it down.

Yeah, Might save my Nomad run though for the "f*ck it, let it all burn" later on run through

I am leaning Nomad or Street Kid. Corpo doesn't appeal to me much.

I'm thinking my first run will be Corp, but i also feel like it;'s going to turn out like my first Old Republic character, who was technically sith but gathering every light side point he could put his hands on.

I'm waiting for the Rockerboy DLC. It needs to happen!

Corpo maybe?

I look forward to giving sleazy corporate types their overdue comeuppance. Pretty sure there will be ample opportunity for this regardless, but I suspect there might be more opportunity as a Corpo, and it will probably be more... personal.

Plus, more snazzy futuristic business attire.

Can I be an ex Special Forces soldier who is now a private investigator for whoever can afford him? And is often hired by Corpos for under the table work?

OH, yes, I did enjoy Altered Carbon. Why do you ask?

But i also want to a bitter ex idealist who drifted into crime and disillusion when the hard left turned out to be nearly as bad as the corporate imperialist establishment that I initially rebelled from.

Those in power need my special set of skills, while I work of those without power, as I once was

Oh yes, I did enjoy the books too:)

wait, am i Geralt or Kovac? i'm getting confused now.

Now you are just making me want more books in that series.

Also the Netflix show was ok as long as you try to view it as its own thing. Still making the Envoys terrorists was dumb.

I found Season 1, aka the Altered Carbon book, pretty good. I found Season 2 boring and confusing, there were a lot of changes and mixing of book 2 and 3 that I didn't like and don't think served the show.

gave up on season 2 after the third episode I think. Felt bad for Anthony Mackie since I know a lot of people would jump to him taking over the main role as the cause of the drop in quality, but from what I read the writing staff completely turned over and Netflix cut the budget and boy did it show.

I hear Portland is nice this time of year (sorry, too political?)

Wouldn’t work, we only have tinyhomes and kombucha bars instead of skyscrapers* and arms manufacturers.

*legit, there’s a height limit on buildings downtown so the wealthy neighborhoods in the west hills can have an unobstructed view of Mt Hood. I guess that’s probably dystopian enough for cyberpunk.

Maybe it depends what you mean by "with" Keanu. Perhaps you can get the Silverhand.

“I’m... not again, not- look, I’m sorry, cheap ripperdoc said he fixed this arm, Oh no, oh sorry. Sorry! I honestly don’t have as much- oh, no- as much control over this thing as I, as I should. I’m so sorry, so so- Oh god no please! Sorry, it clearly likes you, oh no, oh sorry, sorry. Look, the only way either of us is getting out here intact is if we just let the arm finish.”

Well if it is terrible we don't have to worry because

The Witcher 3 is getting a free next-gen upgrade for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC

With ray tracing and faster load times

Based on the (admittedly, little) we've seen so far I was kind of guessing that Johnny's "ghost" (to borrow from another seminal small-c cyberpunk work) is in a chip in the player character's head or something. He is, if I am understanding the big-C Cyberpunk universe timeline correctly, supposed to have been dead/missing for... decades? ...by the time this game is set and has become a sort of urban legend figure, thus the "Where's Johnny?" graffiti. People probably claim they've spotted him somewhere like the way there used to be "Elvis sightings"?

Or maybe your character is just insane and hallucinating him, can't entirely rule that out.

*Nervous laughter*

It's not really an exaggeration to say that the thought of playing this game at the end of this year has been getting me through 2020. So while I respect Penny Arcade for having the courage to Go There and give voice to that little nagging doubt I think a lot of us have been trying to push to the back of our minds, this one is a little Too Real for me.

I am not pre-ordering it or Bloodlines 2 and both are games I really want. But we know how this can go. Also its not like it won't still be there or even on sale down the road.

I want these to be good but both do have a a feel around them probably because they are a new thing and the track records we have does not really help for these games.

I am right there too. This has been my big 2020 game. The original release date was two days before my birthday. At this point I am wondering if the Xbox Series X will be out before or after it and I am contemplating just holding off on Cyberpunk 2077 until the next gen patch is released. I won't but it is something to consider I guess. I am ready for something meaty like this though. I have mostly been playing retro games and modern 2D sidescrollers (Carrion and Neon Abyss) so I am ready for a big AAA FPSRPG type game.

Add me to this pile.

Finally, all my failing to finish The Witcher 3 despite kinda liking it might pay off!

I still have to flounce my way through fake fantasy France so, yeah.

Yeah, it is funny, I have put somewhere between 20-60 hours each into The Witchers 1 2 and 3 and not finished any of them, and yet I am very excited about Cyberpunk. I've even ordered the Cyberpunk comics series ("Trauma Team", first issue out soon) and the hardcover game guide (which I like to get sometimes for games I'm excited about even if I don't actually end up using them much at all). It's not me just irrationally buying into hype, as, even though I didn't finish any Witcher game, there was a lot I liked about each of them, and I am much more interested in future cyberpunk world than I am in medieval-ish fantasy world. But if I get 30-40 hours into Cyberpunk and fizzle out because there's too much to do and some of the quest lines are too long and some of the characters I can barely remember and the combat doesn't feel great (and perhaps they release an "enhanced combat model" six months later or something), well, I can't say I wasn't prepared for it.

System specs announced during todays stream:

Sweet! I have Dolby Atmos for headphones set up on my computer and a GTX 1080, so I should be pretty good for everything without ray tracing at 1440p. I'm guessing I won't get my hands on a 3080 until next year.
