Playstation 5 Catch-All

Same for me! Love that they have a 1st party media remote this time.

Demon's Souls is also coming to PC and potentially "other consoles", per the standalone trailer.

Geoff Keighley is saying it's a launch game, but that seems unlikely. If it was, I think they would have mentioned that.

Same. Physical games are just too annoying, even while it is a lot cheaper.

That is huge.

Would be crazy not to mention it as a release title if it is. That is a system seller for some of us. Less so if it is PC too. 4K HDR glory counts for something though.

This is precisely me I buy my games digitally to avoid clutter but I can’t wait to watch the thing in 4K. demons souls is absolutely a system seller for me. I remember playing the original just as the servers were shutting down. First time I was annoyed that I could t play a full game because it wasn’t supported anymore that game is an absolute masterpiece.

Demon's Souls is a launch title.

Same. That's why I want the disc. Crazy me I still like owning a few movies instead of being locked into Disney+ for the rest of my life.

Deon Souls looks incredible. Nice lighting and great footfalls. One hit kills going on but I’m guessing those are early enemies (I like the back and forth.)

They were, that was literally the tutorial area being played through with the UI turned off.

It looked so good I nearly dove into my TV to buy a PS5, just for that game. Somehow I'm comforted by the lack of a release date, so I can continue to delay this decision.

PS5 is only BC with PS4, right? And then only some games? Bc I haven't bought a disc since PS3. If it doesn't do PS3 discs, I could save $100 by buying the digital version.

Demons Souls looks fantastic. Other than that, I was wishing I’d waited to watch it so I could fast forward.

Playstation Plus collection seems like a smart idea. Price seems good.

I don’t feel the need to get one until maybe next year sometime.

Literally no one else is saying this but him. Sony's not saying it on their blog or in the trailer, and other outlets aren't saying it. I'm not saying he's wrong, but it seems like a hell of a detail for the game's publisher to just neglect to mention.

Edit: Life comes at you fast. Sony just posted a blog post that lists Demon's Souls as a launch title.

Oof. All of Sony's first-party games are $70/€80. Except for Miles Morales, which is $50/€60.

The Dorito Pope is Sony's PR arm now, didn't you know?

Hold up - the end of the DSR trailer says "Not available on other consoles for a limited time. Also available on PC." I saw people posting this on Twitter and didn't believe it, so I checked for myself. It's there!

This seems relevant:

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4.

Free upgrades to the PS5 versions if you buy digital.

Well, that is one way to move the console relevancy from 2022 to day 1 ^^

Quite surprising they didn't blatantly steal Microsofts model of buying the console + subscription. Seems like an obvious thing to do.

What...

That is all kinds of weird. But cool.
Damn, literally no exclusive games outside of GoW 2 I am interested in on new consoles right now. Is this still 2020?

I feel like it’s become increasingly common to have titles that launch on both the new and old systems for the first year or so.

Sure. Horizon did not look like something that will be even remotely close to launching in the first year however.
I'd say more like 2022. But maybe that is not the case.

Wow 399 for a full blown PS5 is very compelling, maybe even more so than the Series S at 299. Tempting....

Potter Souls looked pretty cool. Glad we finally got to see that. I'm suuuuuuper wary of it because of Avalanche's game design of JC3 and 4 heavily getting in the way of being a good game. They're also not exactly known for subtle storytelling.

Curious who the dev team is since Avalanche is everywhere.

Yuuuuuuup

Gotta say that they're finally showing games that are making me interested in next gen. Otherwise, I'm content with my pile.

Different Avalanche. Avalanche Studios is the Swedish studio responsible for Just Cause, Rage 2, Generation Zero, and so forth. Avalanche Software is the American studio responsible for a whole pile of Disney movie games, Disney Infinity, and Hogwarts Legacy.

Be useful to know if the $399 PS5 is "full blown". I haven't seen a definitive statement on the subject.

Also, my understanding is that bulk internal disc drives are a $10-15 part. A $100 discount for excising a $15 part seems like a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if the $399 model has a paper launch with almost no availability in actual retail channels.

Sony is still giving the impression of this thing coming in really hot.

Oh, well, that solves things right quick for me. I'm out. Disney Infinity was competent, at best. Heck, if rather the other Avalanche make this.

Definitely less storage space, that much will be certain.

Demon's Souls being a launch title is awfully compelling. But $70 for a remake is less so. Heck, $50 for Spider-man, a glorified DLC, is a bit galling too.

I'm pretty sure it's a "full-blown" PS5. My understanding is the drive is the only difference. They justify the price differential because you're locked into their store for everything.

The only difference listed between the two consoles on Sony's spec page are the weight and power supply. The disc edition weighs 4.5kg and has a 350W power supply; the digital edition weighs 3.9kg and has a 330W power supply.

Both platforms have the same internals, including a 825GB SSD.

Wow, curious how the profits shake out on the two.

I think Phades is right that Sony's counting on raking in a lot of profits from the digital edition locking you into the PS Store. Remember that they no longer offer game download codes through retailers, so everything you buy goes through their store.

Price is right, just, eh, really not seeing any compelling reason to own this thing day one. May have to override my FOMO and just wait until next year sometime.

So, PS+ is bringing PS4 games as a Gamepass-esque thing?

Alas, y'all, it was not to be:

Update—6:19 p.m. ET, 09/16/2020: Following the original publication of this story, Sony has told Kotaku that the trailer claiming Demon’s Souls would be coming to PC and “other consoles” was a mistake. The rep attributed the incorrect information to “human error.” Demon’s Souls will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5.
