Stadia-specific catch all

You know, I'm too old to waste time trying to figure out obscure things that don't need to be obscure... I'll probably pass on that one...

Hitman gave me a similar experience... but I feel like it's just me being too ambitious...

Google is trying to tempt me into the Stadia trial with a free weekend of The Crew 2.
Bad choice of weekends, Google.

There's not any way to, like, claim the Pro games in bulk, is there?

One at a time

Some nifty stuff on this week's Stadia community update.

An awkward way forward on iOS has appeared.

This “solution” makes no sense whatsoever. Every game must have a functional downloadable component? This reads like it was formulated by someone who has no clue how streaming services work.

BTW, you can play Stadia games right now on iPad using Chrome Remote Desktop.

Apple now says that game streaming services, such as Google Stadia and Microsoft xCloud, are explicitly permitted. But there are conditions: Games offered in the service need to be downloaded directly from the App Store, not from an all-in-one app. App makers are permitted to release a so-called "catalog app" that links to other games in the service, but each game will need to be an individual app.

Apple's rules mean that if a streaming game service has 100 games, then each of those games will need an individual App Store listing as well as a developer relationship with Apple. The individual games also have to have some basic functionality when they're downloaded. All the games and the stores need to offer in-app purchase using Apple's payment processing system, under which Apple usually takes 30% of revenue.

What a f*cking joke. Apple really wants that antitrust case, don't they?

I look forward to Apple yet again being presented with Netflix as a counterpoint and being asked why every movie doesn't need to have a separate launcher and an individual developer relationship.

I know, I'm actually cheering for Epic on that one, and I've never been a big fan of them, Fortnite or micro-transactions.

Started following this guy lately for Stadia news tidbits... His intro is a little much, but his info is always good.

Is a Chromecast Ultra the only option for Stadia on a TV without hooking up a PC? It's not integrated into other streaming devices or anything like that?

Not officially, no.

There is a rumor a new device is coming out the 30th... but it's still a google one if that's the issue.

No specific issue. Just wondering what the situation was. I don't have a Chromecast of any stripe and don't use Google's video services at all, so anything I bought would be specifically for Stadia. I find that I'm enjoying it more than I expected, but I'm not sure I want to drop the $100 for a Stadia controller + Chromecast Ultra that they're asking for.

I like the controller, but I'm a M&K player... will probably always be one... If you're playing on PC I don't see why you would buy the hardware.

Oh wow there's a Stadia thread!

I'm pretty high on Stadia as you may have heard. Playing PGA 2k21 and NBA 2k21 on it with good results. Using a PC and my PS4 controller.

Am subscribed to Pro for the time being but might drop out as time and money dictates.

Glad to see some familiar faces here! If you want another Stadia friend please add me I'm gamerparent#6003, I'll try and go through tomorrow to add you too.

EDIT: I saw Manta's friend request. I searched for and added some of you, hope that you used the same name on Stadia as here!

How often do games get added to Stadia Pro? And how often do they leave?

For the past few months it's been one or two games every week. Most are free for three months, but some have gone longer, and some have been only one month deals. Of course once you claim one, it's yours as long as you subscribe. And once a game is no longer free for subscribers, you can still buy it, often with a significant subscriber discount.

(No game is ever really gone?)

Someone on Reddit made a chart.

I know nothing about these games, but Stadia is filling out their indie (some exclusives) catalog.

Anyone try out the Stadium app yet?

Good to see that Google is continuing to show their commitment to this service. New Chromecast won't officially support Stadia at launch

Yeah, I don’t understand that either, but from what I’ve read, this Chromecast is meant to replace the base model, not the Ultra. That’s a bad excuse if that’s the reason. It also doesn’t make sense as it seems like the new chromecast supports everything the Ultra does.

Stadia can be sideloaded at least.

I think the fact that it can be sideloaded just further shows how stupid this news is and Google's lack of commitment.

Verge has an article that guesses the reason is latency, due to the added layers of software in the new device. Google plans on releasing a Stadia app early next year, but why didn’t they spend the time before the new chromecast launch to make it work?

This is definitely a blow to my trust in Google’s commitment to Stadia.

Yeah, that's not encouraging at all.

Meanwhile, Celeste, Human Fall Flat, and Dead by Daylight have been added to Stadia Pro.

Google FINALLY releases a video that explains what Stadia actually is.

farley: you may want to put this in the OP!

Whoever greenlit the soft launch last year without that video having been made should be fired.

I tried Stadia for the first time today on a 150mbps connection via both ethernet and 5 GHz wifi. I was expecting some level of lag but nothing could have prepared me for how terrible the experience was. An ugly, glitchy, pixelated lag-fest. Completely unplayable.

I also tried Geforce Now and that's much better yet still nowhere near as clean looking as I expected and far too much stuttering.

I appreciate that many of the positive reviews are from those with Gigabit broadband however the stated requirements, particularly those of Geforce Now, are rather modest. On paper I more than meet their demands but it's not translating into a positive experience.

I'm in Ireland so my nearest servers are usually in western and central Europe. Could that be the issue?

Is there and sort of clever tinkering I could do to improve the experience?

Thanks.
