Drug dealer has more integrity than Louisville district attorney or Kentucky attorney general, would be an accurate headline for that.

I prefer to think of him as a small business owner.

Yeah, I thought the GOP celebrated entrepreneurs who pulled themselves up by their bootstraps?

Provided a hand-crafted, boutique service to the local community.

Probably avoided paying taxes too, so on-brand for the GOP.

Someone came forward in the Portland shooting.
He contacted a local journalist to give his side of the story but has yet to turn himself in, stating that he’s in hiding due to Patriot Prayer thugs hunting him and he doesn’t trust that the cops will actually protect him.
This sort of jives with numerous accounts this week of people saying that heavily armed groups of (civilian) white guys have been knocking on doors around town asking about the shooting.

EDIT: literally just as I hit “post” an alert popped on my phone that he was just killed by cops.

That's silly. Of course the police will protect him, that's their job!

... oh.

I'm actually a little surprised, considering he was white. I thought they would just leak his information to the appropriate MAGA cult and let them take care of it.

I fully expected them to come down hard on the suspect. As we’re shown time and time again, Law Enforcement responds to right wing violence with a velvet glove and left wing violence with an iron fist.

I wonder if cops will realize that Trump thinking all soldiers who die or get injured are losers and suckers also applies to their profession...

So this right wing asshole is running around paintballing people and conservatives are somehow surprised that escalated to further violence? The f*cking hypocrisy is just unbelievable.

In the mind of conservatives paint is absolutely harmless if you pepper people with it, but it's completely deserving of 10 years in jail if a drop of it touches a (Confederate) statue.

Based on the interview, I can see a strong argument that the shooter acted in self defense. He still should have turned himself in and fought the charges like Rittenhouse is doing. (And sadly a number of legal experts I’ve read believe Rittenhouse will get off).

Rittenhouse was arrested at his house at 5AM after he fled across state lines. He didn't turn himself in.

I agree. If it was a liberal out driving a prius around shooting paintballs at Trump supporters, they would have built a statue in Biloxi of the patriot who killed them.

Based on the interview that gave no proof, just his side of he said, she said. He thought his friend was about the be stabbed, but we don't have a clear pic of what transpired and now we'll never know.

The whole situation was f-ed.

To be clear, I'm not defending Jay.

You’re right. He claimed he was trying to call in the shooting on the scene so I thought he had surrendered.

I’m hearing multiple reports that Micheal got in a firefight (supposedly 40-50 rounds fired) versus that he was unarmed and shot on sight. I don’t want to jump to conclusions that he was executed because if that’s true, we are veering into Duterte death squad territory.

I keep hearing that, but also I don't see a phone in any of the videos of him so... (re: Kyle)

Well, there are apparently no living witnesses and no video or vest cams. At this point my reflex is to think that the truth is the opposite of whatever the agents say happened.

The phone call took place after the first shooting. He called a friend to say that he had "killed somebody." Audio of that was caught on a phone video.

So the opposite of calling it into authorities (who were right there).

Exactly.

Just checking in. As you do.

Calling his union rep first. As you do.

I don't think he expected to live when he got caught, regardless of what actually went down. Since there's no footage we'll definitely never know but hopefully the feds involved aren't all lackeys and instead stand up cops.

A press release from the local sheriff’s office where all this went down stated that while it was later determined that he was armed, the cops did all of the shooting.

During the 100th night of protests in Portland, Elijah Warren was minding his own business in his house with his 13 year old son when the house was flooded with tear gas. When he went outside, the police attacked him from behind while he was talking with another officer. He was hospitalized overnight.

To be fair, I’m an ordained minister and all it took was filling out a form on the internet when I was in my 20’s. There is unsurprisingly no oversight or regulation regarding a lot of that stuff and it doesn’t really speak to someone’s character at all.

This week’s Worst Year Ever interviews a Minneapolis Councilman about their efforts towards police abolition.

Spoiler alert: they’re trying but largely being stymied by old white guys.

The city of Louisville settled a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Breonna Taylor's mother today. It agreed to pay $12 million, the largest settlement for police misconduct in the city's history, and to reform how police handle warrants.

None of the cops who murdered Breonna six months ago have been arrested. One was fired back in June for blindly capping off 10 rounds into her apartment, displaying what the interim police chief called "an extreme indifference to the value of human life."

That was a good episode.
