Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

Teenage Bounty Hunters is a horrible series name, but the writing is actually pretty clever.

#Alive was a pretty good zombie flick. The new Babysitter was ok - I liked the 1st one better because I think it was more of a surprise. Here you had an idea on what was happening.

Reading this made me want to rewatch Steve McQeen in The Hunter, but sadly it's not streaming anywhere.

Agreed. I started watching thinking it'd just be mindless fun to play in the background, but by the end I was fully invested in the characters and I'm really hoping they make more.

yes, thought #alive was a decent movie, nothing new but still a nice bit of zombie entertainment

Wife and I sawed through The Duchess yesterday. It was funny and we enjoyed it. Only 6 :22 minute episodes, so it's not a long time commitment.

That's exactly my experience. I went in thinking it would be completely mindless and mental junk food, but it has a very Gilmore Girls banter to it combined with a respectful treatment of teen issues in repressive society. It is kind of how I feel Riverdale should have been in some ways.

This was me with Night Court earlier this week. Blows my mind that so many things aren't streaming anywhere at all.

Enjoyed Babysitter 2 very much, though I could really do without the teen movie clueless parent trope.

I'm constantly reminded that having more content than I could ever be able to watch is not equivalent to having everything I want to watch.

I remembered I had forgotten to watch the original Babysitter movie when I saw the trailer for the sequel, so I finally saw it a few nights back. It was incredibly entertaining and it felt everyone had fun making it.

Flash forward to the sequel and I'm somewhat disappointed.
Yes, it's more of the same, so that's fun.

Spoiler:

Basically, everything felt forced: the last love interest is now the new baddie because McG, Cole had gained his confidence but it got written away, and now the old baddie pulls a Snape and was the good guy all along?

I know I'm knit picking at a McG movie about murderous babysitters and satirical satanic cults, but still.

Watched Project Power and liked it. There were pacing problems and some stuff didn't make sense to me but I enjoyed the ride. It was a little better than the mutant heist movie with the green arrow guy. Nowhere near as good as Old Guard or Extraction.

Really dug the special effects. They almost blew their load on the first power. No idea what the last power was but it was cool or hot maybe both. I really have no idea what was going on with it. The bad guy was only there for a minute. I really liked the kid

Now it is time for ice cream.

Watched The Babysitter 2: Killer Queen and liked it. The movie wasn't as good as the first one but still fun. I wouldn't watch this without watching the first one.

Oddly there was something in this movie people were saying was missing but it was there if you look. Deaths were okay but mostly rushed. The new characters didn't do anything for me except for one guy that didn't last long. Special effects were okay. Didn't buy the story but didn't care much. Mainly the ending was meh.

Spoiler:

No, she only turned at the end of the first movie. Either way, I wouldn't be convinced, same as I wasn't convinced with this best friend/girlfriend turning bad.

It's supposed to be based on this.

I really enjoyed the first episode of AWAY. The series has a lot of potential.

Cobra Kai has been so good.

So yeah, Netflix is back on the menu. I need to figure out what I can do without.

I've heard that running water is overrated.

Narrator: "It isn't."

Good to see Cobra Kai will return for another season!

Watched the first 3 episodes of Dragon's Dogma over the weekend. It's very similar in style to the Castlevania series, but it doesn't work as well for DD. I don't think the Arisen is meant to be a heroic monster slayer from the get-go, and a lot of the weirdness of Gransys is hard to communicate in a short TV show. Still they hit a lot of the iconic DD moments so far, from an early encounter with a wolf pack, to climbing a Cyclops. I'll probably see it through (like I said, it's short) but not feeling the same enthusiasm I did for Castlevania.

Cobra Kai has been so good.

Just finished season 2, wow!
What an amazing show. I hated Johnny after karate kid. Now I love him!
I feel like part of the series went super dark though. You know what I'm talking about. I'm not going to spoil it for anyone...

Season 4 of The Good Place drops on Saturday.

Oh you just made my day!

My wife and I have been watching Away and are quite enjoying it. It is very much a "personal relationship" drama vs. a "space exploration" drama, but they're giving all of the actors time to shine and the backstories are interesting. And I've been a fan of Josh Charles ever since Sports Night, so it's nice to see him again.

The only thing we have laughed about (very mild spoilers):

Spoiler:

Despite the "interesting backstory" comment, we both agree that for the first manned mission to Mars there is NO WAY the astronauts selected would have had this much personal baggage to pack along with them. But the ideal astronauts for this type of mission would have made for intensely boring characters for this kind of show.

Watch the take now before they fix it. Half the movie is in French with no subtitles. Made for a fun if slightly confusing movie.

The second episode was nerve wracking.

It is bad when one thing becomes two, it is the same for anything called a way.

Cobra Kai shouldn't be good. It doesn't have great acting and the story's quality is not far from the typical CW show, but I'll be goddamned if I didn't scream "where's the 3rd season!?"
That final episode was so bananas.

Watched 3 episodes from Dragon's Dogma. Can't recommend it. It's just so vanilla anime.

Yeah, I was enjoying it until I realized I didn't know what was going on anymore. The no subtitles bit really threw me off.

I wish it were better. And the animation style? It didn't work for Berserk and that has a devoted fan base already.

The GF and I watched the whole thing purely to make fun of the bland storyline and animation. The story does not improve.

Both sad it is not good and glad I bailed in episode one.
