Post a Picture - Something You Created!

Thanks!

I think it looks far better now, than before. The look before gave it a burned wood effect, which is popular right now, that I don't really like. Great job!

Did you buy dimensional lumber from a box store? Just wondering.

I didn’t know the burnt wood look was a thing right now, but the wife apparently dug it.

All the wood came from Home Depot. The legs and front trim piece across the top edge were 4’ x 2” x 2” and 4’ x 2” x .25” stock. The square stock was cut to length, then in half lengthwise and finally milled with a crosscut jig and table saw to create lapjoints for the legs. The top was 3’ x 2’ x 3/4” laminated sheet (think giant breadboard) cut to size on the table saw. I would have liked to do the top myself, but my skill isn’t quite there and I don’t yet have the tools and jigs necessary to laminate my own dimensional lumber. The trim piece just had to be cut for length.

I just got done applying the second of probably three coats of acrylic clearcoat. I’m actually pretty happy how this is turning out.

I don't know if its a new thing. The Japanese have used it for a very long time. Maybe in the US its newish.

Thanks! I’ll have to give that a look.

I’m kind of a big deal. I mean you, and only you, know me.

I love voxel doodling. Especially in Goxel:

Timely! I want a new computer desk, and I'd like to make something myself. I'm just thinking something relatively simple with a wood top, pipe legs, and probably a few shelves/drawer things with more pipe and planks. I'm trying to avoid just getting a sheet of plywood and put ting on an edge and staining it, but I'm still trying to decide if doing it with hardwood planks is a silly idea for a novice. I've got most of the tools, but none of the experience.

Premade butcher block, sand and finish with spray can water based polyurethane. Precut iron pipe, scrub with dawn dish soap, clean/dry so it does not rust, spray paint whatever finish.

Here's mine:

Yeah, I was thinking about butcher block, but I thought it might be cheaper to make my own, and it'd be a chance to learn some stuff. No idea if it's actually cheaper or not, or whether I have a higher chance of learning stuff vs learning stuff by making something that's kinda crappy and will fail spectacularly in the first six months.

I don't mind learning by failing, but I'd rather not fail by getting it built and finding out it sags, then falls apart on me. That'd just be demoralizing.

There is a decent variety of pipes and planks from IKEA. My wife and I built a custom computer desk for both of us years ago.

Speaking of my wife, here are some of the masks and care packages she has made for COVID.

This is a UU hymn. My choir director Melissa is an amazingly talented musician. I’m singing two parts, but you only see one of me.

had a bunch of actual commissions recently. noice.

A couple i can share...

First is for a friend's character in our upcoming Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign...

and second is for our own harpomarxist. (or, well, a friend of his at least!)

Madeleine Cookies with chocolate (bottom) and lemon (top) icing.

Yeah, the application of the icing is a little rough, but I'd been fighting momentary power outages for an hour by then.

Boy, good thing you told us which were lemon and chocolate, because we'd never have been able to tell.

Those look really yummy, and I'm hungry now.

Hrm... I think I’m going to make some chocolate madeleines now...

Edit: boom!

Mom, Dad! Don't touch it, it's evil!

The madeleines were a hit. Consensus was that the chocolate covered ones should have been orange rather than lemon and the chocolate should have been thinner. The use of dark chocolate was also mentioned, but I told them GTFO and the topic was dropped

Dark chocolate is the best. My wife started using high cacao chocolate in desserts as a way to cut sugar, and now that I'm used to it regular milk chocolate tastes way too sickly sweet.

We use semisweet, which helps. Chocolate chip cookies are too sweet if you use milk chocolate.

Hi, so I made a post about a thing, here. Just in case anyone can help out (though please do not feel obligated to do so, it's hardly a life or death matter!)

Help me (pyxistyx) level up my laptop!

I turned my very limited baking skills into a thing.

This is the way.

It is known.

Am I doing this right?

You’re really close.

I have spoken.

So it goes

So say we all.

Nanoo, nanoo.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
