Welcome folks, and happy “516th Anniversary of the unveiling of Michelangelo’s David” week! When it was unveiled in Florence in the Piazza della Signoria, some onlookers were overheard to remark, “It’s a bit small.” Michelangelo famously responded, “What are you talking about? He’s 17 feet high!” You may all celebrate by groaning.

It’s another week packed with snacks of different flavours, including more of that game you already like.

Kingdoms of Amalur has been plucked from the embers of bankruptcy and quenched in a bucket of icy-cold, remastering water. Does the blade come out sharper than it was in 2012, or is there just a loud hiss and a bunch of hot air? On top of the graphical buffs, they’ve overhauled Sorcery, one of the 3 main paths, and have resumed work on a previously-cancelled expansion. I remember this as a solid 7/10 game, which offered a decent single-player, MMORPG experience. I bounced off of it back in the day, and Wasteland 3 leaves me with little room for another RPG.

The Sims 4: Star Wars - Journey to Batuu is an expansion that puts Star Wars into your Sims, but don’t think they’ll be joining a faction, doing missions, or grinding it out in the Clone Wars—Batuu is more like a Star Wars theme park that your Sims can visit. There’s things to do, but they can’t build a house or live there permanently.

The incredibly versatile, build-your-own-JRPG kit, RPG Maker MV, hits the Switch in the US and Europe this week. Once you’ve created your RPG, it’s yours to put online or even sell. If you ever wondered why the Steam release lists are bursting with similar-looking, indie JRPGs, it’s because of this software.

Borderlands 3: Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck is the final chunk of DLC that your season pass gets you. In fact, you can’t get it unless you have the season pass. All players will get the level cap lifted to 65, which is the largest level-cap lift in Borderlands history.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Shadows of New York is an expansion/sequel to Coteries of New York. This branch of games, while based on the tabletop-RPG, Vampire - The Masquerade, is presented more like a visual novel and does not offer the action-RPG trappings that the Bloodlines games do. But with Bloodlines 2 being delayed, and its director and lead writer recently being fired, this is it for Vampire: The Masquerade games for now.

The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon is my GOTW. The Outer Worlds was a great return to form for Obsidian. I was so grateful to play an Obsidian game on a console that I could actually finish without game-destroying bugs. It may sound facetious, but I have scars. Anyhoo, Peril on Gorgon brings a whole new planet to visit. It opens up after you finish the main quest line on Monarch, so you don’t have to finish the entire main questline before playing the DLC. The new planet has the labs where they developed Adrena-Time—the chemical that lets you go all slo-mo in fights—which leaves me wondering if there will be new, related perks. This is only the first of a number of planned DLCs for The Outer Worlds, and Obsidian puts out good DLC; the expansions for New Vegas lifted that game into the stratosphere. In any case, I welcome an excuse to jump back into The Outer Worlds. After I’m done with Wasteland 3, of course.

Incredibly weak fall release week, wow. I mean, that's okay by me, I'm never without a pile, but damn.

Amalur is looking really good. It was a 7/10 world and quest structure with a 10/10 combat system. It's combat was a bit like Dragon's Dogma in that it holds up over time.

As far as new releases, the only thing I see is Necromunda. Looks like a rather crunchy W40K game in the vein of Xcom or, rather, the tabletop game. Production values look quite high and you can customize your squad with weapons, armor and colors like it was your own miniatures. Neat stuff.

I pre-purchase downloaded Hotshot Racing for the Xbone. First preorder since... umm... Halo 3.

What makes you so excited? I am unfamiliar with this game.

Virtua Racing type game for Xbone, since I don't have a Switch.

Really hoping i can have a go at Wintermoor Tactics club tonight on PS4 sounds like a very interesting game.

I swear Wintermoor is the name of one of the stadiums in the movie "BASEketball."
