Jags just cut Mike Glennon and Josh Dobbs. That leaves 6th round pick Jake Luton as QB2. Unless the Jags are gonna scoop up Josh Rosen...

Hmmmm . . . correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Blake Bortles is a free agent . . .

True, but they could have made that move months ago if they wanted him. Rosen just opened up.

I expect Dobbs will re-sign to the practice squad, but having only two QBs on the active roster in the Year of COVID? Doesn't seem like the play.

There we go.

Man if the Jags signed $wag I would be so happy.

Pretty sure he's headed to the Colts practice squad otherwise.

Raiders are cutting safety Damarious Randall, after having signed him as a free agent in March.

Speaking of the Raiders getting rid of players that they *just* spent capital on, the team is trading the player they drafted in round 3 THIS year (RB/KR Lynn Bowden Jr), plus a 2021 6th round pick, to the Dolphins for a 2021 4th round pick.

A just-drafted 3rd round player plus 6th for a 4th.

Not sure if Gruden or Mayock is calling the shots, but this is some clown team management.

Raiders are officially the team who draft guys too early, so this seems almost like the Dolphins are over paying.

Titans signing Jadeveon Clowney. Except apparently not yet, as Clowney disputes the report that came out about an hour earlier, saying he has not made any decision yet.

This comes hours after he fired his agent, the second time in two years he has done so the week before the season while still sitting in free agency.

I swear I had posted this article when it came out, but I can't find it: NFL Insider Details Tension Within Jadeveon Clowney’s Inner Circle. That freshly fired agent, Bus Cook, often could not get in contact with Clowney at important moments. A lot of rumor, but rumor that certainly explains the weirdness surrounding him.

Guy seems like a total head case. There's a reason he can't get the kind of offers he wants.

I'm pretty neutral on the Bucs as well. We've seen these fantasy football dream rosters fall apart plenty of times before. I'm not convinced Brady is going to be more than league-average (which still is impressive as f*ck at age 43). I'm not convinced Gronk is going to be much more than Jason Witten's comeback last year - still decent, but far behind the Kittle/Kelce class. I don't expect OJ Howard will get much traction either. I don't trust a single RB on their roster, Fournette in particular seeming an odd match for an Arians offense.

I trust Evans and Godwin. But I think the hype for this offense is looking at every piece through the most charitable lens.

I see this like a bunch of the Philip Rivers Chargers offenses. You remember all those years where Rivers threw for 4400 yards to some good weapons and the team went 7-9 or 9-7.

I doubt the Bucs will be bad, but I'm skeptical that the bunch of recognizable veterans is going to push the whole team up into competing with the NFC elite.

I will say, having Arians is a plus, and increases the odds that he can get the best performance out of each guy. But even that doesn't guarantee that their best performances are actually going to be enough. What I don't know as much about Arians is how he is with acquired talent.

There are always those coaches that can acquire a guy and get more out of him than anyone figured. If Arians is that kind of guy, then maybe I trust his hunch more. But I would assume Belichick is that guy, and he got rid of Brady.

That's like trading with Billy Beane 20 years ago. You are asking to get ripped off. He almost assuredly knows way more about at least one of the guys you are giving him, and he's hiding something about everyone he gives up. Feel the exact same way about Belichick.

That said, Brady and Gronk are freaks. Particularly Brady, as Covid is a weird thing to deal with. He will deal with whatever the challenges are as well as anyone. Comparatively, that will move him up a few spots itself.

Will Arians be cool with shenanigans like deflating balls?

If I'm New England, Tampa, or Pittsburgh, I would grab him and start developing him without the play-now pressure hanging over him.

The Bucs apparently read Legion's mind, because that's where Josh Rosen is headed.

To the practice squad no less, for now. One day he may unseat The Great Gabbert for that sweet backup role.

Titans have signed Clowney.

AP goes to New England West. Er, I mean the Lions.

Rosen makes loads of sense; if he wants a chance to reboot actually have a career, going somewhere with lots of offensive talent, a good coach, and an older QB who may not be around long is logical. Things clearly don't look good for him long-term based on what he's shown, but, well, what a godawful series of environments he's been in so far. Guy was utterly screwed from the start between the kinds of teams he was on in Arizona and Miami, so maybe he has a vague chance.

I keep forgetting Ryan Griffin exists; he's been in the league since 2013 or 2014 and has thrown four career passes, and has eternally been the third QB for the Bucs. He's like somebody cloned Chase Daniel in another attempt to see how long somebody can stay on a roster without actually playing football.

Rosen gonna take over the backup role just in time for Arians and Brady to retire, a new coach/GM come in and release him.

So I ordered my 2020 official sideline NFL apparel:

Banana hammocks?

The Kittle one holds everything nice and secure, but it turns out the Minshew one is fumble prone.

So more on the Clowney signing: the Saints were pursuing a "sign and trade" move, in which a 3rd party team would sign Clowney to a deal with part of his salary as signing bonus, and then immediately trade Clowney to the Saints. That would leave that signing bonus chunk of money on the 3rd party team's cap, letting the Saints pay a lower cap figure for him, and the 3rd party team would get a draft pick from the Saints for their trouble.

Basically, not unlike the Osweiler trade, except the 3rd party team would be acquiring the player for the express purpose of flipping him.

The Saints were going to use the Browns as the 3rd party team. But the Saints were unable to get confirmation that the league office would accept such a deal as valid.

Ironically, even if they had gotten the go-ahead, they likely still would not have gotten Clowney, as the Ravens caught wind of this move and were ready to swoop in and acquire Clowney, with the Jaguars as their intermediary. Reportedly Clowney would have picked that destination over New Orleans.

Alas, it was not to be, so Tennessee gets a player who wanted to go to two other teams ahead of them.

Raiders QB Marcus Mariota lands on injured reserve, after having been so unimpressive in camp as to pose no threat to Carr.

Reminder that the Raiders spent $7.5m on Mariota, while the Saints and Patriots spent just over $1m each for Winston and Cam.

This might be my favorite part of the season.

That's even more hoo-larious than the Saints' deal for backup QB/human Leatherman tool Talcum Hall. I think the Saints are silly for potentially committing that much money to a noodle-armed special teams gunner. But the deal structure (less than $1M base salary, $4M bonus) is really smart, and the Saints will re-work it again a year from now (because, as it stands, Hull will get $10M in salary, and that won't stand if Brees -- all 3-feet-8 of him -- is still on the roster.)

Oh, god. I'm paying a compliment to the Saints. I think I need to go lie down and get ready for the Week 1 games.

Hey, remember when "who's the better QB, Mariota or Winston" wasn't such a sad, sad subject?

No. Pretty always been that way for everyone else.

Funny you mention Hill, Draw Play was making fun of him today:

Draw Play Dave consistently brings the funny. It also happens to be the truth. SUCK ON THAT AINTS FANS.

Is it wrong that every time I hear someone mention Taysom Hill and his amazing "swiss army" abilities, all I can think of is this?

I realize that it's petty, but as a Hawaii resident this delights me to no end.

Hearing Saints fans talk about Taysom Hill, Human Swiss Army Knife, is a lot like going back a few years and hearing FSU fans talk about Roberto Aguayo's mortar kicks.

He's "a bigger Lamar Jackson" though.

Only one Saints QB went undefeated (5-0) last year. And Teddy is in Carolina now.

*Legion* wrote:

lol. I've heard folks optimistically call him a "white Lamar Jackson".

It appears the Defector is going to start with a bang:
