PGA Tour 2k21 Catch-all. FORE!

Has anyone picked this up? I’m thinking about buying it. Haven’t played a golf game in quite a few years and I’m itching for one. It received decent reviews, but the criticism is it’s bare bones and kind of difficult.

So anyone have any thoughts?

I'm a huge fan of golf games. I don't see how it would be possible to make a better golf game than Everybody's Golf (used to be Hot Shots Golf). Maybe in a wonderful dream world the Sony guys will make a game with 20 real courses someday. The Everbody's Golf gameplay and course design is just so tight and very much like playing real golf.

Back to 2K21. I haven't played it, but it doesn't look like a good golf game in the videos I've watched. It looks like a game that looks enough like golf to get people to buy it without bringing the golf experience.

It's developed from the Golf Club dev, right?

They are competent golf games that don't have a ton of well-developed stuff outside of that. They did ship with course making tools, though, which was cool.

The course maker looks top notch. I think I'm going to have to give this a try in the near future just based on that.

I have started playing. Practice practice practice. Getting straight shots is not easy, but gets easier the more I play.

I actually double dipped, and have this on PC and XB1.

It's substantially better than the previous games. 2K got involved on the last game, but it was still pretty much HB's game, with some 2K styling in the menus.

This feels like a very nice upgrade from the last game. Still prefer the feel of EA Golf, but I finally feel comfortable with what they are doing here.

It also finally looks great. Was never a fan of The Golf Club games. It's probably not fair, but ever since Links 386, golf is one of the games where the graphics matter as much as the gameplay. For everything Rory PGAT lacked, and it was a lot, I still loved the way it looked and felt, except that there was also a sense of isolation.

I was happy enough with the game on Xbox to grab it for PC, where I think I might play more than on the coach. Golf feels like a PC game, in a lot of ways. Of course, this is my first PC golf game since PGA Championship 2000. Those guys are the ones that took over the Tiger Wood series and introduced using the sticks instead of buttons to play.

One thing that helped, especially in the short game, was slowing down my backswing. This really helps in putting.

Yeah, putting you can crawl to the mark before swinging forward. You don’t have to pull all the way back to get a good putt. Finally shot a -5, but still looking for bogey free round. So important to get GIR.

So I signed up to play in a society with some guys from another forum. So, they don't use that marker. There is a %, but it is a static number. So if I set my shot up, and I need to hit it 38%, you just have to get a feel for how far back and how fast forward. I didn't realize this, and it made for a hilariously bad round.

Got no problem with that as a way to play, but I'm gonna have to practice a lot more before I am playing in tournaments with real people. I'm still in the stage of figuring out what kind of difficulty I really want, and what will become the standard for casual groups. Then I will just target my solo gameplay at that level of difficulty to practice and get up to speed to play.

I mean, I was +11 after three holes. I don't mind finishing in last place in every league or tourney. But I think I ought to be at least somewhat competitive. But I'm guessing if I can spend time in training and get that down.

Anyone want to start a PGA 2K21 "society" so we can have a competition? I created a "[GWJ] Gamers With Jobs" society if anyone is interested in playing some tournaments.

Tried to find this on xbox. could not find it.

I can join now!

I wasn’t able to locate it, is it named something else?

I believe the societies are NOT cross-platform. The one I created was on PC. It's called "[GWJ] Gamers with Jobs"

That would be why. Dang it

Is anyone playing this on PS4/PS5 now that it is free for PS+ subscribers? I loved the first Golf Club, but bounced off the uneven experience in the second one. I started a career (on normal) and won the Q school event and my first tournament, but barely broke par in the second one. Any advice or suggestions? So societies are not cross-platform? Is regular multiplayer not either?

Nothing in it is cross-platform except for courses. For advice, it depends on where you are having difficulty. The practice range can help a lot for swing timing. There are a lot of options (on PC anyway) to tweak the difficulty of the swing and expected trajectory of the ball.

Okay, thanks - I'll look for that. I don't want easy mode, but I feel like Phil Mickelson - 90% of the time my shots are good or reasonably bad, but 10% of the time I hit a nearby house.

I don't know how many patches are released on PS4/PS5, but on PC, they have definitely tweaked the effects of a bad swing over time. There were a lot of players that purposely would swing fast and just aim way to the right just to have a consistent swing every time. They nerfed the distance for a fast swing to counter balance this. All this to say, the game "rules" are not static (on PC at least). Best thing you can do is just play a lot to get familiar with the game.
