Such an awesome topic! Loved hearing all the different suggestions, but I have to admit my favorite was Monaco by Waititi. I'd watch anything he'll do, let's be honest.
Small footnote: on a personal note, I hope Luc Besson never works in the industry again. I was a huge fan when I was a teen (I knew, probably still do, every single line of that film by heart), but he's been publicly outted as a predator last year (although, let's be honest, it was a poorly kept secret in the past two decades in the French film industry).
Fingers crossed for the Dune movie as well.
Glendon, you're missing out, because Paris in AC: Unity was amazing! Absolutely gorgeous. Once it was patched.
I literally laughed out loud at "disclaimer, this was recorded on my phone; yes I'm aware of the irony." Nice to hear Jonathan Downin's voice, the man behind the scenes!

Thanks for the info, and YIKES.
I'll openly walk back any recommendations of Besson, I was not aware or I would have not suggested him. I didn't think to search news as well as IMDb. Will be sure to do so in the future!

I'll join Amoebic in the walk back on that one as well. He shouldn't work again and I would never have backed that suggestion up if I had known about this. Thanks so much for bringing it to light, Eleima.

I also want to point something out that I hadn't seen in Othercide at the time of recording. One of the bosses, the Deacon, is utilizing a religious person as sexual predator theming/trope that doesn't really work. It doesn't add much to the game and the world, and they aren't doing anything interesting with the trope so mostly it just feels icky and pointless. It is all implied (mostly in flavor text barks he sends at you as you work through various battles leading up to his encounter), but both Paige and I noticed it literally minutes after recording (otherwise I would have included it in my commentary.) I'll definitely update if it escalates beyond beyond being a poorly utilized trope, but I wanted to put that out there. I'm not yet sure how it plays into the game's story (if at all) or how the boss encounter itself works.

Co-signed. My brain knew *something* was up with Besson, but I couldn't place it at the time. Thanks for the callout.

Also, since Rich and Glendon had such glowing things to say about Wasteland 3, it mysteriously appeared on my Ps4. How did that happen?

Update on The Deacon boss in Othercide - It thankfully gets more interesting and doesn't get worse. The main issue is a bark/taunt that the boss gives on some of the levels leading up to the fight with him. That bark remains gross without adding to the experience, but that's about as problematic as it goes. I'll see how the rest of the game plays out and report back.

My non batsh*t submissions for video games directors:

Wachowski Sisters - Mass Effect, possibly Crimson Skies or Skies of Arcadia
Spike Lee - Mafia III
Edgar Wright - Phoenix Wright, Saint's Row
Shane Black - Just Cause

I'll watch the Wachowskis do anything, but Mass Effect would make me soooo happy.

Aaron Sorkin's XCOM.

I specifically sought out a glass of water upon reading this so that I could return to the computer, take a sip as I was rereading it, and do a spit take.

Walking and Talking and Shooting

I kinda want to see Taika Waititi's take on NieR: Automata or Binding of Issac.

My take on directors and videogame movies is the Coen brothers doing a Secret of Monkey Island movie. In part because I thought there was a dire lack of comedy in the discussion, but I also think it would be just hilarious.

Nice, what a surprise to have you guys talk about Othercide. When I first heard about the game it was a week before release and I immediately Googled up all the information I could. Unfortunately when release day came I saw that it was "premium indie" priced and read a number of reviews that highlighted the brutal, roguelike difficulty of the campaign.

I'm still very interested in it, just haven't mustered up the motivation to drop the cash. I'm a sucker for this art style and the heroe design reminds me of W40K Sisters of Battle.

Zach Snyder directing God of War would be awesome.

My 2c ...

Quentin Tarantino doing Red Dead Redemption
Francis Ford Coppola (the godfather) doing GTA
Ridley Scott (Aliens) doing Mass Effect or Control

I knew something was weird about that Happy Birthday scene in The Professional.

I think Jeunet could pull off Outer Wilds
