Wasteland 3 Range-All

I wonder if it affects your interactions with the actual clown faction.
So far they have only wanted to murder me.

Yeah, but they're clowns, so it's kinda in their nature

Having a lot of fun so far but can't say I'm a huge fan of the way the companion characters are created. Really wish there was a respec. You can kinda respec your main characters by just building different ones which is nice though.

Building the custom chars around what the premade companions bring. I kinda like that.
Though if I ever replayed the game, having the ability for full respecs would be a good thing.

Combat feels annoying. I am sure I could optimize a lot of things. But basically all enemies seem to oneshot, no matter if it is my tanky chars or the weakest character in the group.
I win most fights without having to reload, but it feels like I am literally graveyard zerging the enemies, and my two overpowered pets, with 3x the health of my tanks, and some weird invisible armor that makes them take 90% less dmg, are the ones carrying me.
Then after a few fights I need to go find a doctor, to get rid of the death penalties, which is busywork. At least the rest and health system in some RPGs makes it feel relevant (like Pillars of Eternity or Pathfinder). Here, it is just a matter of having to leave where you were, and go back to a city. Then back to where you left.
Oh well, I like pretty much everything else about the game.

If you create a new custom character, do they catch up to your older characters fairly quickly? Or going to be a few levels behind?

I'm admittedly playing on easy, but when I made a new custom character it was 1 level below my premade one.

Yeah, I've rebuilt my characters a couple times, really not a big deal.

One note - save your skillbooks for the level 10 skill buy - it costs 15 skill points for the level 10 version, so using the skill book on a 2 or 4 point buy is just a waste!

Downloading using Xbox Game Pass! Can't believe I've been so busy I missed this release. Time to play yet another game I'm too busy to finish...

Yeah, I think new characters come in at 1 level under the highest level custom character. I had a 10 Charisma character and a 1 Charisma character. After the first section the 10 CHA character was level 5, the 1 CHA character was level 3 (just shy of 4) and the new custom characters I hired were level 4. Which is interesting, because that 10 CHA character is still lapping people in levels.

Why is it that my team can detect a mine on the ground, but are incapable of pathing around it unless I manually direct them one at a time. Minor annoyance, but come on...

I've been thinking about this one, and I believe I'm going to give it a pass.

Why? Because of their fundamental design decision that there are no good sides, and that you have to make very binary decisions, where you must pick sides and must make people into enemies. You can see it in one of the early encounters, where you have the choice of saving a hostage by approaching peacefully, but if you do, then two hostages you didn't know about will die on the next screen. Right there is where I bounced off.

Why would I want to play that game? They're deliberately setting it up so that everything is always f*cked up, no matter what you do. I'm presently living in a pretty messed-up world, and why would I want to visit another place just like the one I'm in already?

The comforting knowledge that things can still get worse and 2020 is far from over yet.

While you cant get out of quests with happy endings, I am not sure yet whether it is possible to make all the factions happy. It seems difficult though.

You stopped playing the game 10 minutes in, Malor?

While I actually usually agree with you and want the happier solutions where not everyone is an unreasonable prick, this is at least different. Pretty much every game with choice says “Your actions have consequences” but the consequences rarely ever have any weight.

I think this is one of the more adultish decisions I've heard in the gaming world. We each need to make our own decisions, but can't fault a guy for sticking to his principles. Don't always agree with Malor (usually don't comment either way) but this is one that I'll give him some props for.

I'm really digging this game for some reason. I am a big Fallout 1 and 2 fan but could not get into Wasteland 2 back when it was release. I was excited for it but couldn't keep my attention for more than an hour.

But this game... It's fun. And the story is fun too.

You stopped playing the game 10 minutes in, Malor?

Yep. I'd heard about the factions thing, but thought it might be okayish. I didn't like that mechanic in Outer Worlds, and didn't care for that game much at all overall, but I was willing to give it a try.

But that specific decision showed me that they're not going to allow much to come out well, that any decision you make will do awful things, perhaps to people you haven't met yet. That's sometimes true in reality, but they're being glaringly obvious that will almost always be true here.

Why would I want to spend time in a world that's constructed to be awful, no matter what I do?

If there are no good options available, in real life you can look for more options. Not here.

Feel exactly the same.

I'm close to the end of the game now but actually already have plans to up the difficulty and try something different with my starting characters on my next playthrough.

I have WL2 but never played it. I'd like to try it before WL3 hype gets me but I have read a lot of people saying WL2 soured on them eventually.

TIL: Malor would have quit Starfleet over the Kobayashi Maru.

There Are Too Many Games.

Well, at least I'll have something to play in 500 hours when I start waiting for the CK3 expansion...

If this one is at least as good as Wasteland 2, I'm definitely in. :)

Wait, isn't the canyon, like, only a quarter of the way through the game? There's a very clear bridge to the second half and the canyon is way before that.

That's a fair point and reminds me that I also need to finish Disco Elysium.

I'll be interested in reports from people on how the choices felt once they've reached the end of Wasteland 3.

Can i ask how the Co-Op is working on this? Can you fully share a campaign with two people. I think my friend and i would be into this but only if we can basically play the whole thing together.

It was mentioned earlier that after the first cut scene you and your partner each make one character and play through.

It's been quite a while since I played it, so I'm probably remembering wrong. Though the canyon part wasn't one of my favorites regardless.

Canyon, from my memory, is about 1/3 of the way through. California is the back half and is very long but was extremely buggy at lunch. Canyon leads into that.

You probably found this by now but I'll mention it just in case - you don't have to go back to doctor to get rid of death penalties, just use the Injury Kit.

I really like this game. I wish it was a bit better technically (while I haven't experienced any bugs, I've crashed once and performance in general could be much better, including loading times) and I wish it weren't so cumbersome to initiate combat. But I enjoy this game a lot.

Guess I found the good faction in the game. They believe I am okay with a sense of moral superiority being the reward for doing their quests...
Actually a bit disappointing as for reactivity and consequences in the game. They started out by evaluating my tendency toward violence. Which unsurprisingly didn't turn out very well, when they conclude I am a horrible person who are against everything they stand for. Then in the very next sentence they literally say "It doesn't matter".

Finished up tonight. Pretty awesome game and I really enjoyed it.

Already planning my second playthrough to try and get some of the other achievements, but also see some of the different possibilities. Lots of choices!

Dammit. Yes, the tutorial stuff even tell you this I think.
After which I chose to forget it.

Probably because I have a bad habit of, at all cost, avoiding to use consumables in RPGs. "I might need them later..."

Ok this game is pretty freaking awesome. I’m already regretting some decisions I’ve made and I haven’t seen the ramifications yet but I know they are coming.....

I could not get into Wasteland 2 and I do think the graphics and voice acting upgrades have improved my immersion. I actually think the combat is quite fun although I know many don’t like it. The camera drives me a bit crazy at times but not enough to stop playing.

And no bugs. For me. Yet.

On the ever-growing list of "things I wish I had known/remembered", you can apparently run over enemies with the vehicle in ambushes. Sure makes them easier.

Fun fact, you can run over a big enemy which can trivialise the fight.

Spoilers if you want to know... it's not end game, about mid game.
